No, its relevant on a team being able to hold another team for one drive. ONE, and they can even give up a field goal.
The NFL isn't a liberal's kindergarten; you don't get called a winner just for showing up.
Do you even know what you are talking about ? Forget the games that were played on the weekend ... The question this thread is asking, is, "shouldn't overtime be changed" ... Now ...
The NFL is a game that comprises of many skill sets ... Both teams are given ample opportunity throughout the game to "show off" those skill sets ... Coaching skill sets ... Quarterback throwing, running, reading the game skill sets ... O Line skill sets, which comprises of players skill capabilities to evade the defenders, the skill capabilities of players to catch balls thrown by the quarterback, the skill capabilities of after doing these things, to score a touchdown ... D Line skill sets, which comprises of skills to defend the other teams O Line from breaking away, skills to knock down the quarterbacks throws, skills to get to the quarterback and sack him, skills to intercept thrown balls ... Then you got special teams who have their own set of skills ... Then you got the punter with his own set of skills ... Then you got the goal kicker with his own set of skills ... Take all of the above together and you got yourself a team who does things with skill and professionalism to the best of their capabilities ... Sure sometimes SH!T happens, turnovers, muffed catches, dropped balls, etc, etc ... But in general, skill is used all over the field to try and win the game ...
The overtime rules, the way they are now, does not give both teams the same opportunity to use all those skills that it gives both teams throughout the whole game ... I don't care if a team has a rubbish D. Line ... I don't care if a team has a rubbish O. Line ... I don't care if a team has a goal kicker that can only kick as far out as 45 yards, but yet the oppositions team has a goal kicker that can kick as far out as 55 yards ... Both teams "skilled divisions" meaning their O and their D should have equal opportunity in overtime ... At the moment, it cant, why, because it all rides on the TOSS OF A COIN !!!
No matter which way you wanna spin it ... No matter which way you wanna crap on about the teams D (That lost the toss) should have been good enough to stop the other teams O, (That won the toss) is a load of rubbish ... Its as plain as day that the rules, at the moment, are not fair and proper rules in the best interests of BOTH teams and to be quite honest, they are not even in the best interest of the NFL ... They need to be changed !!!
Say what you want, you are wrong and so are the rules ...
