Some of the coaching decisions have been dumbfounding. The Indy coach should be fired. Period. It makes me reflect on Chicago running no huddle against the Pack a few weeks ago on 1st and goal with 1:08 left in the first half. It cost Chicago a FG and maybe that game. I guess they don't conduct IQ tests before hiring them.

I would not automatically fire him for going for it. His press conference afterwards where he equates a tie as the same result as a loss as an absolutely fireable offense.
Methinks Reich has a case of small pen*s syndrome as he knows he wasn't the Colts first choice. Hell he wasn't even the 2nd choice. That leads one to lack self confidence and thus to overcompensate.
The play stands for itself. A tie happens over 90 % of the time. A conversion happens 1/3rd of the time and even if that were to happen, a play in the middle of the field burns your last timeout and your gonna be in midfield with 20 seconds and no timeouts and the playcalling limited to sideline patterns which the defense would be well aware of. Brady or Rodgers gets it done. Luck and his gimpy arm? No shot.
A incompletion leads to an automatic loss. Houston would need no more than 10 yards and could probably make do on 6 - 8 yards and their last timeout. Under no scenario was this decision wise outside of Indy being in a must win scenario late in the season. For this reason I would advocate firing Reich on the spot and wishing him well.

From a risk reward perspective this is stupid as hell. If Indy punts the ball, it’s close to a guaranteed tie. If they don’t get it, Houston is two plays away from fg range with 30 seconds left. I know people don’t like ties, but a tie to these dumbass macho coaches is NOT like a loss. A tie could be the difference between getting into the playoffs and not getting in, so take it.
