Sure Cubs backers can rejoice they won the game but as someone who had the Cubs in a futures, this game was deeply disturbing. And that's because of 3 critical errors that were fixable. First was to pinch hit Carantini when his numbers against righties were much better than Contreras and he already had a huge hit. Next he puts Edwards in a crucial spot you knew he would wilt. Finally to bat the pitcher with bases loaded and a chance to break the game was inexcusable. Even a fly ball would have been huge there. It's not like Maddon didn't have any other pitchers. He's got 12 relievers on the team. It's these types of errors that make me question his managing acumen and gives me doubt this team can do anything in October.
