The Maple Leafs leading scorer and best offensive player since "weird" Phil Kessel left, wont be resigning. gary's media dogs are already letting you know they had the talk with him and have requested he go play in a more needy market. Are their any teams out there that don't resign their best players outside of the Leafs? Maybe Habs? Gotta be only Canadian teams. He's 29. Scores too much. Cant give him a contract because he'll be 34ish by the end of it but have 98 yr old $6,000,000 yr Patty Marleau for another year. Talk about a retirement favour for gary and San Jose. Anyways James, it was great watching you play and score too many goals. Enjoy your new home south of the border

Losing your 2 last leading scorers. gary said he wont take a hometown discount. That's hilarious. Theres no Stamkos here. Nope. Stammer left $70,000,000 on the table because of the lovely Tampa weather. This makes perfect sense to all the naysayers right? You guys are too smart for me. I'll go back to wearing the tin foil

The ol' salary cap bullsh!t from the media dogs. We know they have to sign their young talent, but not signing your top scorer doesn't make any sense. Leafs should call Vegas and see if they'll retain 2 or 3 million per year for no reason (well theres a few guys on Covers that understand that illegal deal but wont say lol) like they did with brassard for the gary Penguins

The problem isn't next year it will be the year after that they will need to sign Nylander, Matthews and Marner. Van Riemsdyk will want a 5 year probably around 40 million dollar contract. I like him but for his size but he is scared to be physical for some reason? Great around the net but also can have long dry spells. He is hot now when it doesn't really matter so lets see what he does in the playoffs.
You learn more from losing than winning. You learn how to keep going.

That got the guy for free from philly as a young star and in the exchange were allowed to unload a highly overpaid useless piece of crap named luke schenn and his albatross contract. I would say the leafs made out ok no matter what happens now.
The lion and the tiger may be more powerful, but the wolf doesn't perform in the circus.

He’s actually 5th in scoring and he’s 13th in assists. Pretty pathetic.
He’s utterly useless when he’a not scoring
He benefits from playing with great talents like marner
Whoever signs him for 7 plus will regret it badly
Regardless he will help the leafs go on a playoff run
How about if he was on a line with Matthews? 50 goals maybe. The media and knowitalls said the same thing about Phil remember? He was lazy...fat....weird. Don't you realize by now this is all bullsh!t? Kessel was a dynamic player with the Leafs and so is JVR. Im not one of the sheep that believe hes no good bc nick kypreos or that other idiot maclean say hes not. Theyre both on garys payroll and both of them are told what to say. I will remember this thread and when JVR moves on and scores 50 or lifts a cup, I will bump it.

It would be nice if he came back to philly the team that scouted and drafted him. His nickname in philly was the pigeon....youtube giroux calling jvr pigeon....hilarious stuff....

If the cap was not going up, the easy comparables (Oshie, Atkinson, Okposo) all point at up to 6 mill/year or about a 42 mill contract.
Under current contract (12/13-present), he is #46 overall in points with 287 (tied with Kadri btw). Comparable wingers around that point total is Kyle Okposo (29y), Mats Zuccarello (30y), TJ Oshie (31y) and Cam Atkinson (28y) (at 248 points).
So best comparables (by production): Kyle Okposo signed last summer for 6 mill and TJ Oshie just signed for 5,75 mill and Atkinson signed for 5,85 mill. Zuccarello signed his last contract back in 2015 at 4,5 mill AAV.
It is not like JVR's numbers are off the chart in this contract year. First 5 years he was a 0,73 point/game player, in this contract year 0,68 p/g (and this is while shooting a career-high 15,1%).
Leafs also have Matthews, Nylander and Marner coming up soon and they got a lot of wingers which I guess that plays a role. JVR's (full?) NM-NT-clause could also be part of it with the Seattle-expansion coming up.
From what I've read, cap is expected to go up with 3-4 mill, so there's room for more. But I still don't see a 7 mill AAV for 7 years type of contract.
I think up to 6,5 mill AAV for 7 years based on the numbers, but not sure that'll happen/fit in Toronto with all the other contracts looming, at least not if JVR wants to keep his N-MTC (imo).

I wish him the best. He’s great around the net..but that’s about it.
Kessel is another story. He’s amazing I love the guy but he’s can and never will be THE guy. In Toronto he was the guy. In Pittsburgh he has Crosby and Malkin taking the pressure so it’s oerfect for him.

Why do you think every team's decision has something to do with Gary Bettman, lol? No offense, but you come across obsessed and delusional at this point.
I think theres a Bettman Obsession Group meeting down the hall from AA on most nights if you want to check in.

Shauwig, he will sign a pedestrian 5m 5yr deal with some team or some other shady type deal. Watch
Leafsinsider, Kessel didn't have to be "the guy" for much longer. He would've/couldve been behind Matthews, Marner and Nylander with his 80 pts lol He would've made them cup favourites. Notice how the media doesn't call him donut boy or fat or any of that nonsense they started here?
