No Long,Royal or Goldman..Im a Bears fan and this team is hard to watch.Rumors came out last week Fox said he was done with Cutler, then Hoyer got killed. if it looks like around 80% of the bets are on one side, then you go with the other side, the side that "the books need," in theory.
it especially applies if it's a division road favorite, as with tonight.
and it's generally the "sexier," "public perception" team that gets all the bets. these teams are very often NE, GB, Pit, (big name QBs with exciting offenses), but it can be any team that's doing well lately, like Min so far this season. the narrative is "the vikings are one the best teams in the league, and the bears are total crap." it's the basic psychology of overreacting to recent events, but tends to neglect one of the most important factors in sports betting/sports entertainment (imo), and that's parity. that is, the best teams aren't good as we think, and the worst teams aren't as bad as we think. but for media purposes, and for aligning our fragile egos with our heroes, and pitting those fragile egos against our "zeroes," we exaggerate everything. as much as it's hard to believe, if the patriots played the browns 10 times this season, the browns would probably win a couple times. the talent is more even than we want to believe. and weird occurrences/chance plays even things out as well..

and of course, there's no way to really know what the bet percentages are, but it's often pretty intuitive, like tonight. what casual fan/casual bettor would possibly want to wager money on the "horrible bears"? so your "average joe" puts a little $$ on the better team, cause they should win a least a TD right?
so all these people on one side, and yet the line doesn't creep up. that's when you start suspecting that "wiseguys," "professionals" might be on the other side, the ugly side, cause their "big bets" even out all of the average joe's many little bets..
there are many sites that'll tell you "where the money is," but of course, none can be trusted, cause none of them want us to actually win $$. that said, I've settled on looking at Pregame.com. even though, you can't "trust it," you'll often find the numbers to follow what you'd think anyway. for instance, do you think more bets are on Atlanta or Tampa Bay for Thurs nite? you kinda already know the answer, and you'll generally find numbers that corroborate.
Pregame and Behind the Bets podcasts offer good info imo.
Bob Scucci (Behind the Bets), who manages like 10 Vegas sportsbooks, said "we'll need the Bears more than any other team this week." When you hear a bookmaker say that, you pay special attention.
Course, I'm only hitting 50% this year so far, so there's that. Patience. Find a way you believe in and stick with it. Unless you're always losing..
