I had the steelers and benefited (at the time) by that choice to go for a FG. Of course it lost in the end...
But it is a really dumb decision. And it isnt even close.
Before anyone argues.... It isnt always a bad decision - just in those game circumstances - 2 timeouts, 3 mins left, down by 5, at the 4 yard line. But most of all - it is the way they were moving the ball so efficiently - and the way Seattle also was moving it so well.
Really, really dumb.
I never met a hater better than me. I am on twitter

Him and Johnny Grier were two of the worst two referees in NFL history. The two dumbest coaching moves of the weekend were Mike Timlin kicking the field goal and Stanford's David Shaw not using his timeouts to stop the clock late in the game.

Q- What do these four guys have in common
A- It's the DFN theory.
Funny you say this.
I had ND last night - and couldn't believe that he wasnt using the timeouts. And nothing from the announcers.
And of course - they win - so nothing from anybody about it.
Still about as dumb as possible.

mike tomlin i hate to say this leads me to belive money is being wagered on his behest. why on gods earth would you kick a field goal in this game when number one u going 4th and short earlier in game with so much time remaining.
number 2 pitt defense could not whip cream second half.

The INT was made in the field of play with possession then after he rolled out out bounds with the ball it was only then it was ripped out Cary's really stupid

I completely agree with you,and it wasn't even close, its like he was watching a different game. And then that reception play with the Pitts receiver going out of bounds, you could see him lose control with one hand and slightly bobble it,therefore only getting the 1 foot in bounds. Now I could see why the official on the field didn't see it,cause it happened in a flash. But looking at the re-play,you could clearly tell that the one hand comes off,and the ball is slightly bobbled.Thank god he wasn't the re-play official on those two calls. And that's the only job this guy has in the game,is to watch re-plays in the game for the network, and give his so called"Expert Advice"on what the correct call should be,and he wasn't even close on either of them. Its like they surpised him,and woke him up in the middle of his nap,he still seemed a little groggy.

It is easy to see why they can't even get the replays right most of the time. The rules are subject to human interpretation. Seems like the studio guys, broadcasters, players, coaches and the referee on the field don't always interpret the rules the same. There is always the human element.
Look at that stupid excessive timeout at the end of the Pats game, it damn near cost them a chance to send it to OT. Nobody even knew what to do or the that the clock was going to start again. Pats got the hose job on all the calls at the end of the game. Brady was lucky he didn't get an unsportsmanlike penalty, but his ire was justified.
That being said Mike Carey was and is beyond awful in his interpretation of NFL rules.

It almost sounds like, for some, this was your first NFL primetime game. Mike Carey is actually spot on an overwhelming amount of the time. It was stated that he was sick, not unlikely high on codeine, he missed two calls initially, after which he admitted he was wrong.
Mike Pereira on the other hand, if I were to flip a coin as to which way a call would go, it would have more accuracy than this guy's predictions.

Still though, this thread is funny.
Yeah Doc - this was my first NFL primetime game. I am new to this.
Thanks for the heads up!

Ah, makes sense. Additionally, re: the kicking field goal thing - Kubiak just did the same thing and the Broncos one the game. Why aren't you subjecting his decision making to the same criticism? His choice seems all the more critique worthy, as his QB wasn't concussed when he made the decision.
Tomlin's QB was concussed. Or did you want him to bring Landry Jones in on 4th & goal for his first pass? Oh, my mistake. You wanted him to run the wildcat with Deangelo Williams, when he received tons of criticism for running it with Leveon Bell on the 3 yard line (when the call won the game) vs SD on MNF.

He is the "studio expert" ref for CBS.He gets every single call wrong. And not on judgement. Most of the time he doesnt even know the rule or is just blind. It is comical.
Lmfao I always say the same thing. He's always wrong!

Its sad that these refs are paid to know the rules, but get it wrong so many times. The Pitt game was a crap job, but did anyone watch the 9er game?! Talk about a crap fest. The refs took 15mins to figure out what down it was.
Officials are there to officiated a game not to determine the outcome, sadly its been to common that refs are determining the outcome of a win vs a loss!
