The posted Portuguese picks so far have been cup games which is always a little trickier than league games, but still - green numbers. However, this is when it really starts, this is the whole idea, to keep a positive accuracy and bring in units as we summarize the season. Portugal season 2014/2015 YTD: 4-4-0 (+1.56) ROI: 115.60%
The league starts with a good game, Porto hosting Maritimo, and of course I like one play. ____________________________ Porto - Maritimo: Pick: Porto -2 AH @ 2.15 (1/10)
New look Porto enters a new era after having a troublesome season last year. A lot of changes were made, new coach, new quality players and they are for me the genuine number one team in Portugal on paper at the moment. New coach Julen Lopetegui holds an impressive record as a coach with 84.1% wins - 6.8% draws - 9.1% losses, in other words he is used to winning - great ability to have if you are in charge of Porto with massive expectations.
The pre season games have looked very promissing as well for Porto
Striker Adrian from Atletico Madrid is a nice addition, Yacine Brahimi had a great World Cup with Algeria will bring some trickery into the team as well. Defensively, Martins Indi arrived from Feyenoord. A good loan deal from Real Madrid is Casemiro, who brings depth into the midfield. The winger Cristian Tello arrives on loan from Barcelona to bring more attacking options on the wing. Porto have become a much faster team with more technique and finishing ability & way more creative. This sets up for a great season.
Maritimo on the other hand have lost a lot of players and moreover have a coach who enters his first ever coaching job. Best striker Derley (16 goals last year) left the team for Benfica. Midfielder Danilo Dias and Sami left the team as well. Their last friendly against Las Palmas was poor, they lost 4-0. Generally Maritimo have good squads but this year they need to adjust to the many changes, as they have 12 new players in total, to be coached by a first-year head coach.
Maritimohad the third worst defense last year, and nothing really indicates that will change this year so far.
My pick is Porto -2 AH. This pick is 4-1-1 since 2010 between these two teams at Porto's home field. Porto looks stronger than in many years and if they get the team together they will be dangerous. -2 is a heavy line, it takes a 3 goal margin for making it a winner.. not impossible with the ways these teams are heading.

With the current squad Maritimo have to their disposal, selling their top scorer for many seasons, Derley - who was a constant threat to anybody, there just is not enough offense to scare Porto. Sure, Porto have a bit of change in their defense as well but on their home turf they should see 60-65% of the possession and leave Maritimo with very slim chances of generating scoring chances. Great price to me.

Sweem I love your insight on Swedish football so I want to ask you what are your thoughts on varbergs DNB. I have read that Sirius are missing some players due to injury. Thanks and good luck

Sorry Saadah, been at work all day did not see the question. I would not touch that game, the missings from Sirius were not really "new ones" so they have been doing OK results despite some guys gone.
Porto wins and keeps clean sheet @ 1.95 (1/10)
Porto -2 AH @ 2.15 (1/10) PUSH
1-0-1 on the day (+0.95 units)
The Portuguese Season started well! Moving onto tomorrow with more upcoming.
