lack of hitting from fielder?
starting pitchers?
or bullpen
Pretty much agree
Pretty much agree
Look at there losses...
Game 2 - Leyland completely mismanages the pitchers (all to common) - costs them the game
Game 3 - Couldn't get the big hit (or A hit at that)
Game 5 - Winning run gets on due to a bad hop and scores on a wild pitch (really???)
Game 6 - Iglesios error. Should have been out of the inning. Also, Leyland mismanaging the pen (why pull Smyly)
IN THE END - Leyland cannot manage his pitchers, He has absolutely NO IDEA when to leave a guy in or when to pull him.
BP - the tiger pen is not as bad as it seemed. We have guys (Smyly, Albuquerque, and Benoit). These guys are NOT situational pitchers. You CANNOT bring them in to pitch to one batter.
Fielder - do I need to say anything else?
Cabrera - Not that anyone can complain about this guy. The problem, is that he was obviously hurt. There is no doubt that if he was healthy, things would have been different. But that is part of the game.
Bottom line, Boston took advantage of the breaks they got and Detroit did not.
Look at games 1-3. Ortiz, Napoli, and Salty all had only 1 hit each for the series. All three of those hits either won or tied a game. They lead a total of 4 innings and were up 2-1 after 3 games.
Boston made Detroit pay for their mistakes (and there were a lot), Detroit did not.
Good Luck to Boston

Took Leyland forever to realize Jackson was a K machine....
Miggy was hurt
Prince couldn't hit his weight (he'd hit .300 if he did)
Thought he was LaRussa running a bullpen. Here's a guy for you, here's a guy for you, etc............
Pulled his starters too early. I'm not talking about Clarabell Sanchez or whatever her name is. i'm talking about Verlander and Sherz. I know they went 7 innings. When you've got a bullpen like that, why not take a chance on the 8th?. Incredibly, even with some pitchers throwing 107 pitches, there are actual pitchers that can make it all the way to 120!
If your DH cant hit lefties, find another DH
Other than that, he's a genius.........

can't dispute the bottom line, but seriously, Leyland not once but twice blew games at fenway for a reason that totally escapes me: he put his faith and trust in a shaky bullpen rather than ride his 21-game-wnning cy young-in-waiting scherzer...
game 1: 5-1 lead thru 7, scherzer at 108 pitches working on a two-hitter so naturally you take him out...huh?????
game 6: scherzer removed again, this time at 110 pitches, still hitting mid-90s...unbelieveable IMO that Leyland wouldn't ride this guy thru the rapids, instead he gives his ace the hook...
leyland did it his way, and that included batting fielder in the three-hole...completely baffling...
he's had his shot and hasn't gotten it done...
no contract yet beyond this season but as tight as he and dombrowski are, I don't see a change being made...
that said, I do believe it's time a change was made
