Neither of your statements are true.
I think people were so in awe over Rask in the Eastern Conference Finals that he was almost given a pass in the Stanley Cup Finals where he had a 2.83 GAA. Maybe the defense of the Bruins was softer and less effective in games 4-6 in the series, but you don't just give Rask a pass for that, especially if the assumption was that Boston's defense was great in games 2 & 3. In other words, you can't praise the goalie when the he and the defense are both playing great, but never critique the goalie when he and the defense are no longer playing great. The Toews goal was completely on Rask. Seidenberg took away the centering pass so the goalie is supposed to be responsible for the guy with the puck. Toews just beat him 5 hole. There were other goals in this series that were undoubtedly Rask's fault.
Take nothing away from Rask, he played great against the Pens and played well vs the Hawks, but I think the praise for him got a little ahead of itself and at the end of the day, Crawford was the goalie with the better stats and the one hoisting the Cup.

I get your point and I agree. But, it's better to look back and analyze all six games after the series is over. That's when the stats are truly representative of the whole picture. Nothing MJ and I have posted is untrue. The Hawks got to Rask, who proved to be beatable despite what the media wanted people to believe after the Pens series and in the early stages of this series. Still a terrific goalie no doubt, but the love affair was overdone.

you can add "Little Ball of Hate" Marchand AND "The Human Pylon" Chara to those two in the Finals. after being about the BEST Bruins forward vs the Penguins, Marchand disappeared in the finals AND Chara was a -6 the last three games of the series. he was on the ice for half the Bhawks goals
