He's effective because he lets other Bruins fight his battles. He's Maxim Lapierre. Both have talent but are not able to aand up for themselves snaps play their own game outside the team!
I think there is merit to what you are saying...but it is after all a team game especially for the Bruins who have no star offensive players except for perhaps Krejci.
Lets face it. For the Bruins to win this series...they have to muck and grind and frustrate the Pens off their game. Marchand fits that role to a tee and he does have talent. He is a legit 20 goal scorer in this league.
I think it was more Rask that flustered the Pens than Marchand tonight. There is no doubt he should have also got 5 minutes. It was a stupid hit at a stupid time with your team up one in the waning moments of the 2nd.

Have you seen how many times he has handed the puck to the other team? Pitt is the team where that cannot happen...For some reason Marchand thinks he is Bobby Orr and can skate around and through everyone and it costs the bruins time after time
When Marchand is on his game he is a very valuable player for the Bruins but I haven't seen many good shifts from him in the playoffs....a couple but not many
He is more of an asset than a liability on a team that has trouble scoring. Who would you healthy scratch him for?????
I think Seguin has had some awful turnovers too and has not had nearly the impact on the games as Marchand has. But...that is a whole different discussion right there. Imagine if we could get him going.
Its a good discussion. But IMHO you could not take this guy out of the lineup.

Cherry is right about Lucic. Nathan Horton, I've been a cheerleader for a long time since he was a high pick by the Cats but even I know this guy doesn't get all these chances without Lucic making room for him.
I really think the Bruins should consider letting him walk as a free agent. Lucic just makes his linemayes that much better and Krejci is a great compliment up the middle.
Everyone knows David Clarkson will be overpayed and Horton is gonna get stupid money thrown at him.
Nathan Horton would not be as effective of a player on the Habs or Canuvks
I would let Horton walk. Not even a decision to be made. He sleepwalks through the regular season but does give much more effort in the playoffs.
He has a real problem burying chances. He did score that open net goal tonight but he held that thing a long time. Then...he was set up for a one timer near the end ( I cannot remember by who ) and again...settled the puck down allowing Vokoun to come over and make the save.
He also seems to have the puck in his feet a lot. I dont think he has great vision.

both deserved 5. marchand's was worse though but cooke's reputation got him. suspend them both
I don't really see suspensions either way. Cooke didn't try to drive MqQuaid's head thru the glass and, like I said, McQuaid saw him coming and "showed his numbers". didn't see a replay of Marchant but in the original "full speed" look during the game, looked like a checking from behind to me but NOT "flagrant"

What a dumbass statement. The hockey I grew up on was much more violent. That's hockey. Sure he's a cheap little girl. He's talented though. BTW , we won.

Marchand is a little punk. He comes in with these cheap shots from behind and he is so little you can't fight him. Reminds me a lot like Theo Fleury. I would love to see somebody take a run at him. However, at times he can be a bit of a weapon as he can put the puck in the net. He also is great at getting these Pens off their game. I don't know, I personally hate the punk but if he was on my team I'm sure I would feel differently. He just looks and acts like such a DB. I wish Cooke would run him, that way both those guys are out.

no $$ on the pens, actually thinking about doing a live bet though :)
-or get him to change, it's pathetic...hockey is a tough sport!
not hit or talk and run
look at crybaby crosby go after chara..and even MALKIN fought
Crosby didn't fight he argued and whined with Chara and he did give him a little shove, and Malkin fought a guy who is smaller and doesn't fight, neither are acts of heroism lol. They were doing that because they had to, due to the fact their team was getting schooled and they knew they were about to lose so they were trying to ignite their team. Marchand had no reason to fight. His team was in complete control and he was doing exactly what he was supposed to be doing and it was working like a charm as the Penguins were paying too much attention to him and getting off their game. And Marchand can and will fight when he chooses too, but it would have been absolutely stupid for him to fight last night. It's the penguins that were frustrated and needing to fight, the Bruins were busy controlling the hockey game, that is when you 100% do not fight. You don't give the other team anything to feed off in that situation. Hockey 101.
The lion and the tiger may be more powerful, but the wolf doesn't perform in the circus.

Great player...amazing talent but has spent too much time in the Mario Lemieux " How to become a productive whiner" class when he lived with Lemieux for a few years as a rookie.
They both cry and whine when anyone touches them and how dare the referees ever call a penalty on them.
I wish he would just play through adversity...much like Patrice Bergeron does on a daily basis.
When you're the best player in the world much like Lemieux was at points they have every right to girl and complain. They're constantly pestered, people throwing cheap shot, etc. There's a lot of dirty activity and cheap shots that the cameras don't pick up that a player like Crosby takes. He takes five times more cheap shots, therefore he'll whine five times as much.
Flute made some great points, and Marchand is quite possibly the biggest b*tch to ever play in this league. Every scrum he's throwing cheap shots to people's backs, knees, head, etc. I can say I've never witnessed him play one game where he didn't throw a cheap shot at some point. There's a difference between someone who pesters people on the ice, and someone who talks a lot of garbage, constantly throws cheap shots/hits, but will never back it up. One day he's going to refuse to drop the gloves with someone after talking a lot of garbage, and they're going to grab him and start pummelling him in the face regardless, I usually hate those plays, but I'd be more than happy to see someone do it to Marchand. It's disgraceful to watch him play, he could be so much more effective if he tweaked his game.

marchand is def more effective than seguin i dont see how you can bench him
he probably would get his as.s handed to him if he didnt play on a team with chara and lucic etc...
you are right though if the pens try to play the bruins game they have no chance
I saw one playoff game, marchand annonying one guy before the faceoff, and before the puck dropped the coach put on S.thorton in his place cause the opponent looked frustrated. I think the coach knows what he's doing. Also vancouver uses lapierre the same way to a degree. There are positions as there are roles on a team. Like thorton could be considered a fighter. You could consider marchand a Pest. I like to use agaitator..lol. some players are goal scorers. ect..

In ice hockey, a pest is a player who attempts to antagonize opponent players either by physical play or verbal incitation.[1] Pests employ legal, illegal, or borderline tactics to accomplish their goals. Some common tactics include trash talk or slashing and hooking
while referees are not looking. Also, they may sometimes employ the
tactic of goading opponents into a fight but then backing off in order
to draw a penalty against them. Some pests may not only use these
tactics against opposing skaters, but opposing goaltenders as well.[2] Pest and agitator
are sometimes used synonymously, as both are usually characterized by
short bursts of intensity and speed with the intention of creating
havoc.[2]
The pest characterization has been used derogatorily, as a player who
incites anger in the opposition but is unwilling to directly confront
the result of their actions by engaging in fighting. George McPhee, general manager of the Washington Capitals, said, "Pests are really the guys who have no courage. They start stuff and don't back it up."

Ken Linesman, Claude Lemieux, Ulf Sammuelson, to name a few, were some of the best irritants to play in recent years. These are guys YOU WANT on your team but hate their guts when playing against. Brad Marchand is no different. There will be a number of teams clamoring for his services when he is a free agent.

add the Islanders Rich Pilon to your list of "cheap shot artists". that pr!ck effectively ended the career of one of the BEST "power forwards" EVER in the NHL, Kevin Stevens in Game 7 of the 1993 Islanders vs Penguins series
