Many people fail to realize that the Giants roster in October was a lot different than the roster in April.
Maybe Barry Zito can start pitching to his capabilities as he is untradable at this point. Maybe Zito will step up to the challenge after being left off of the 25 man roster during the playoffs and WS It would be nice to have that 20 Million a year the Giants are paying Zito to sign a bat or two. Brandon Belt will get a shot at making the team this spring, which might put some pop in the lineup. And Buster Posey will only get better. The Giants don't need to score a lot of runs with that pitching staff, which shut out TX 2x in the WS and held them to 1 run in Game 5 TX scored a total of 5 runs in 3 home games, in a hitters park. Braves fans are wondering what happened to their bats. As are Phillies fans. As are Rangers fans. |

Go ahead and spend a fortune on Cliff Lee and his 6.94 WS ERA against the light-hitting Giants....

Yeah, that lousy Giants offense beat Cliff Lee 2x in 5 games.

Giants were 15 in hitting in the majors.
Posey will be better next season, and the Giants will likely give Brandon Belt a call up next season. And perhaps a FA bat too. With that pitching staff, 15th is more than enough. |

Guillen wasn't on the WS roster.
He's done as a Giant. |

You still don't get it - Hitting puts butts in the seats, but Pitching wins championships. The Giants were 15th in the majors in hitting, but had the top team ERA And Barry Zito just might pitch to his capabilities next season. THAT is who they bring back. And they've just proven they can win a WS with a bunch of 30-somethings with mediocre stats. Maybe they call up Brandon Belt next season and he provided some pop like Buster Posey (ROY) did this season. Funny how you put Uribe and Huff on both of your lists... |

How did they "get lucky"? I guess beating the Padres, the Braves, the Phils and the Rangers was just "luck" I guess Tim Lincecum, who is arguably the 2nd best pitcher on the staff winning back-to-back Cy Young awards was just "luck" Calling up Posey in May and Bumgarner in June was just "luck" Brain Wilson leading the NL in saves was just "luck" Having the top ERA in the majors was just "luck" Having the top Defense in the majors was just "luck" |

"The Giants will not beat Cliff Lee once"
No, they beat him twice. The East Coast media forgot about Tim Lincecum, about Matt Cain, and they probably never saw Madison Bumgarner pitch or Buster Posey catch, hit or throw. TX was a huge favorite in a must win game, at home, with their ace on the mound. The Giants shut them out 2x and allowed 1 run in Game 5 and a total of 5 runs in 3 games in TX And wait until they get another bat or two in the lineup next year... |

The Giants "got hot at the right time" because they brought up Posey from AAA Fresno in May, MadBum from AAA Fresno in June, and acquired Cody Ross in August.
That's how they "got hot at the right time" They also had the best record in the majors after Posey joined the team. The top ERA in the majors and the #1 Defense as well. That is what wins championships. The 4 starters (Lincecum and Cain are both 26. Sanchez is 23, MadBum is 21) plus Brian Wilson made them untouchable. All the "experts" at ESPN and elsewhere knew nothing about the Giants, and they all picked the Rangers. "The Giants won't beat Cliff Lee once" No, they beat him twice. Did they forget about 2-time reigning Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum? About Matt Cain, who might be better than Lincecum? Did they even see Bumgarner pitch a game? Giants scored 29 runs in the 5 Game WS Rangers got 29 hits in the 5 Game WS and only got one runner past 2nd base in the last two games of the series. The Rangers were also shut out twice and held to 1 run in Game 5 18 1/3 scoreless innings, in TX, which is a hitters park. Luck had little to do with it. Pitching and Defense did. The roster that took the field in April wasn't the same roster that took the field in October. Saying "They got hot at the right time" is pure ignorance. They "got hot" due to roster moves and good management by Bochy. |
