Thanks for the input fellas. I guess that I am finding overlays (thus finding value in my plays), but I think laying off a bit unless the favorite is more vulnerable will really increase my ROI. It also looks like I need to do some record keeping as to what my odds are vs. what percentage they actually hit. One last question: anyone know of any rebate shops and approximately what size do you need to wager to qualify for a rebate?

How do you guys decide what races to bet and which ones to lay off? I only play what I percieve to be overlays and have a small positive ROI for 2007, but I still feel I'm betting too many races. I can make an accurate odds line, but even if I see an overlay, I feel I should maybe layoff some of those races. Just trying to figure out which ones. Any insight would be appreciated.

There is a new sportsbar/OTB opening tomorrow at 544 N. LaSalle. The place sounds like it will be far superior to the Mud Bug and Jackson St OTB (although that's not saying much). Anyway the website is here: https://www.stretchrunchicago.com/

I was discussing the logistics of going to the BC this weekend with a business associate whose home track is Monmouth. I said I had read in this forum that traffic was going to be a nightmare. He told me it was no problem for him, as he takes the train there. I dont know what train it is, but it might be a better way to travel that day. Good luck.

I won't handicap the BC races until later this week, but at first glance I agree with Mikeyp1... I think the value might be in Tiago in the hopes the pace is pressed early and the race falls apart.

Playing Turfway today. Not much out there that I love yet, playing most of it small. Good luck.

Thanks for the input fellas. As for the polytrack, I dont like it, but it could offer a great opportunity for the astute handicapper if you can figure it out.

Does a horse always keep its same proclivity towards early speed or can it change from being a frontrunner to a stalker and back over the course of its career?

Anybody got odds on when Matt Carouthers gets canned for saying something obnoxious or slapped with a sexual harrassment lawsuit for trying to hug some hotties at the track? Honestly, I love watching :58 flat to see what he will do next. He's a trainwreck.

Since we are discussing stategy, I let you guys pick this one apart. I exacta box my top overlay with the post time favorite. I once read that the post time favorite wins or places 55% of the time, so I figure about half the time my exacta is in play and since its boxed with what I feel is the biggest overlay, I am getting some value. I usually play my top overlay to win also. My average ticket would be $10 win and $5 ex box. I normally lay off if the exacta will pay is low. Not sure if this strategy is any good, but I have been having some sucess with it and since you have a fave in the ex box it hits frequently enough that I dont go through very long dry spells. Unfortunately I have not separated the profit/loss from the bet to win and the ex. box in order to get a good idea of where my profits are coming from. Looking forward to hearing your ideas.

I have a question for Daneish: Do your picks consist of the two horses that you think will finish first (or second per the exacta strategy) or are they the horses that you think will be overlays in the exacta pool. Wondering since your picks come out before any betting has taken place. If you play your top horses, how do deal with the betting when a top horse gets bet way down to low odds...dont bet, bet smaller, or hope that a horse with long odds from the field hits the other half of your exacta?
