Oilers vs Canucks Prop Picks and Best Bets: McDavid & Co. Muted With Man Advantage

Prop bet #1: Connor McDavid Under 0.5 power-play points

Obviously, Connor McDavid is the best player in the world and will subsequently be the best player on the ice in Game 7. Fading him in the power-play points market is not an indictment on the superstar, but rather, a fade of the situation.

It is a winner-take-all Game 7, which means the refs will swallow the whistles outside of egregious penalties. There's certainly a world where Edmonton doesn’t even go on the power play in this game, which would cash this bet sweat-free.

With that said, even if the Edmonton Oilers are given some opportunities on the man advantage, there's still a solid chance McDavid is held off the score sheet. Edmonton went 0-3 on the powerplay in Game 6 and 0-5 in Game 5, marking back-to-back games and eight straight powerplays without a single guy finding the back of the net.

So, not only was McDavid held pointless on the power play in each of the past two games, but he has just two power-play points over his past seven games against the Vancouver Canucks. When you factor in the element of the refs historically swallowing the whistles in Game 7, the trend is likely to continue.

Prop bet #2: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Under 0.5 power-play points

These plays are highly correlated, which is why I'm just risking a half-unit on both McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to be held pointless on the power play. It works both ways: they could each record a point on the first power play of the game and we lose both, or Edmonton doesn’t even receive a power play all game and we cash both effortlessly.

With that said, Nugent-Hopkins is certainly not a focus of this power-play unit even when given the opportunity. He serves as the faceoff guy who's tasked with winning draws and then pretty much asked to step out of the way as McDavid, Draisaitl, and Hyman do the work with east-to-west passing in front of the net.

The plays are hardly ever designed to involve Nugent-Hopkins unless there's a wild tip or scrum around the net, which is why he's failed to record a point on the power play in three straight games. Furthermore, he has shown reluctance to shoot the puck anyway, given that he's recorded one or fewer shots in three of the past four games.

Prop bet #3: J.T. Miller anytime goalscorer

Our final prop to target in Game 7 features Vancouver forward J.T. Miller to find the back of the net. The big news surrounding the Canucks on Monday is that forward Brock Boeser will miss the game due to a blood clotting issue.

That's a massive blow as he's been the team’s best goalscorer this postseason. With that said, Miller has been the best all-around forward, and I expect him to step up in the goalscoring department with Boeser out of the lineup.

I also don’t trust goaltender Stuart Skinner, and now is the time to sell high on him after a solid performance in Game 6 against a flat and lifeless Canucks group. He only faced 15 shots in that, but this is still a guy who allowed 3+ goals in each of his prior four starts.
