Tyson Foerster scored in the fourth round of the shootout Saturday night for the visiting Philadelphia Flyers, who outlasted the New York Islanders 1-0 in Elmont, N.Y.

The teams combined for 65 shots in regulation and overtime before each opened 0-for-3 in the shootout. After the Flyers' Samuel Ersson stopped Kyle Palmieri, Foerster -- taking just his second career attempt in the shootout --shuffled the puck several times before sending a forehand over the glove of Ilya Sorokin.

The 1-0 shootout win was the first for the Flyers since they edged the Montreal Canadiens on Feb. 26, 2018. The 1-0 shootout loss was the first for the Islanders since they fell to the Colorado Avalanche on Dec. 19, 2022.

Ersson made 25 saves as the Flyers snapped a two-game losing streak. The shutout was the second for the 24-year-old, who stopped all 28 shots he faced in a 4-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Jan. 9.

Ilya Sorokin recorded 40 saves for the Islanders, who had their three-game winning streak snapped but extended their point streak to six games (3-0-3). The shutout was his second of the season and the 18th of his career.

The Islanders didn't get a shot during three power-play opportunities. The Flyers, who entered Saturday just 7-for-68 (10.3 percent) on the power play this season, got three shots on Sorokin during a third-period power play.

Both goalies made impressive saves in overtime. Sorokin stopped Travis Sanheim at point-blank range with 4:30 left and made a sprawling save of a shot by Travis Konecny 75 seconds later. Ersson turned back Bo Horvat on a semi-breakaway with 1:50 left and then stopped Mathew Barzal's immediate attempt to poke a puck into the corner of the net.
