Appalachian St. uses defense to down Georgia St.

Georgia State's defense slowed down explosive Appalachian State, but the Panthers couldn't find any offense in a 17-3 road loss to the Mountaineers on Saturday at Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone, North Carolina.
In a defensive battle, Georgia State kicker Rogier Ten Lohuis hit a 43-yard field to cut the Appalachian State lead to 10-3 with 9:18 left in the fourth quarter. But the Mountaineers answered with a long, time-consuming drive, capped by a touchdown pass from Taylor Lamb to Shaedon Meadors with three minutes to play that put the game away.
Jalin Moore rushed for 159 yards and scored a touchdown for Appalachian State (3-2).
After a scoreless first half, Moore broke free up the middle and scored on a 45-yard touchdown run on the Mountaineers' first drive of the third quarter. Michael Rubino tacked on a 42-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to put Appalachian State up 10-0.
The Mountaineers' defense did the rest, picking off Georgia State quarterback Conner Manning four times and limiting the winless Panthers (0-4) to 241 total yards. Alex Gray, Eric Boggs, Brandon Pinckney and Mondo Williams had interceptions for Appalachian State.
Manning completed 19 of 44 passes for 153 yards with the four interceptions.
Georgia State linebacker Michael Shaw had a diving interception off a deflected pass in the first half, part of a solid defensive effort from the Panthers.
