NFL contests are now posted for Week 1. There's probably some easy money to be made getting into these early and hoping you get an opponent who doesn't check back closer to the beginning of the season to make sure that their players are healthy and getting the lions share of the playing time.
We've currently got $60K salary cap contests listed for h2h, 5 player, and 10 player. We'll be adding some huge tournaments, as well as 'expert cap' ($55K) and 'beginner cap' ($65K) cap games soon. |

We run large field, large prize pool tournaments at Fanduel every day. Today we've got the Thursday $3,500 Strikeout. It's $25 per entry, capped at 156 entries. Prize pool is guaranteed, even if the tournament doesn't fill. You can enter as many times as you want (as long as the cap isn't exceeded). The top 14 places pay, with the winner getting $900.
Strategy in the large field tournaments can be a bit different than in h2h or other small contests. Since the payouts are pretty top heavy, and there are a lot of entrants, you want high variance players and you want some differentiation from the players everybody else is picking. It also helps if you can pick players whose performance is correlated...generally players on the same team. So if you have a strong feeling about a team that's going to score a lot of runs, you can take advantage of it by loading up on that team's players in your lineup. Don't forget to use the Covers referral link if you're going to check out Fanduel: https://partners.fanduel.com/processing/clickthrgh.asp?btag=a_708b_252c |

Posting a sample lineup for today's contests here, along with some explanation of why I made the picks. This would fit within the standard $35K salary cap, but I'd need to make some tough decisions about where to look for bargains if I was playing in a $32K 'expert' salary cap contest.
P - Vogelsong ($6,100) - Getting the right pitcher is a key decision. Most days there's a trade off to be made...either get a star pitcher and have some scrubs in the lineup or get a bargain pitcher and have a lineup of all-stars. I think there's not much difference between the bargains (Lilly and Stauffer are also good deals) today and the top pitcher (Halladay in Colorado). C - Mauer ($3,200) - Despite his lack of power this year, he seems like a pretty safe pick at this price. 1b - Gonzalez ($4,000) - At home, in a hitter's park, against an average right handed pitcher. 2b - Utley ($3,800) - Against a righty at Coors Field. 3b - Polanco ($3,000) - Cheap and at Coors Field. SS - Reyes ($4,100) - Jose is awesome. The opposing pitcher (Hensley) is not. At all. Not even decent. LF - Hamilton ($3,800) - Hoping Hamilton gives Fister a rude welcome to Detoit. Lefty against righty helps. CF - Ad. Jones ($3,500) - Jones is decent. Hochevar is not. RF - Bruce ($3,500) - I think the opposing pitcher (Lyles) is worse than his major league stats suggest. Lefty against righty. Added bonus that Bruce took a rest day yesterday, so I know he's definitely playing today. |

Figured we could use this thread for Fanduel strategy discussion and daily picks. Covers is partnering with Fanduel, so please use the Covers referral link (https://partners.fanduel.com/processing/clickthrgh.asp?btag=a_708b_252c
) and don't post any personal referral links in the thread).
For anyone who isn't familiar with Fanduel, it offers one day fantasy sports contests for cash. Some highlights: -Buy ins range from $5 to $270, but you can enter as many contests as you want. -All contests involve picking a team of players within a salary cap for that day's contests. -Deposits can be made by Paypal or Visa credit card. -Withdrawals can be made by Paypal (or check for $250+) -Contest sizes ranges from h2h up to tournaments with hundreds of people and prize pools of $5K+ I'm a Product Director at Fanduel and would love to hear feedback from anyone who has tried out the site. We're always looking to make it better, and getting ideas from our players is a big part of that. |

Murphy's Law in action I guess...this is the first time in months that we've had big problems with it. In any case, contests will settle properly in the morning (although likely a bit later than normal...maybe around 6am or 7am Eastern tomorrow). We may still be able to get live scoring up during the late games tonight though...got two programmers working on it right now. |

Thought people might find it useful if I posted a sample of a team for today's contests which fits within the cap and which takes advantage of good matchups, favorable parks, etc...
P - Beachy $7,600 C - Santana $3,400 1b - Howard $3,600 2b - Ackley $2,900 3b - Sandoval $3,500 SS - A Ramirez $3,300 LF - Crawford $3,600 CF - Rasmus $3,300 RF - Cruz $3,700 Whatever lineup you settle on, you can use it in the freeroll, as many regular contests as you want (ranging from $5 to $270 buy-in) and the two tournaments being offered today...the MVP ($100 per entry entry, $6,000 prize pool) or the DFBC Qualifier ($10 per entry, $2,000 in prizes today, $69,000 in prizes for the finals). |

Barnstorm - It is absurd, but I'm not the one you need to convince - your elected officials are. They passed the UIGEA (which includes the fantasy sports carve out). Some of the restrictions on what counts as fantasy include: pick players not teams, multiple events need to be included, prize pools must be fixed.

barnstorm - Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure your suggestion still wouldn't legally meet the requirements for the fantasy sports exemption.

sc_capper74 - You may want to try again...sounds like it was probably a temporary problem, because it seems to be working for others (and I just checked it).

Barnstorm - No, there isn't. The issue is that one of the requirements for Fanduel to be legally classified as 'fantasy sports' rather than gambling (and thus receive an exemption from UIGEA) is that each contest has to involve at least two sporting events. That said, if you have a strong opinion on a side or total, you can indirectly take advantage by picking a Fanduel team that includes many of the players from the team that you think will do well.

I wanted to drop by and say 'hi'. I work for Fanduel and would be happy to answer any questions about the site. Best way to reach me is by email (alex@fanduel.com), but I'll also be checking this thread periodically.
The Covers freeroll (linked in Lou's post above) pays $100 to the winner and pays the top six finishers. You can register for Fanduel for free and enter the freeroll to try things out. No commitment necessary. If you win, you can withdraw the money immediately if you want. Withdrawals are done by Paypal (or check for amounts greater than $250). Paypal withdrawals are usually processsed same day or next day, checks sent out within 2-3 days. The mechanics of all Fanduel contests are basically the same - choose a contest to enter, pick a team of players within a salary cap, and score points based on the performance of those players. Contests last just one day, and if your team outscores your opponents, the money goes directly to your Fanduel account. In addition to the freeroll, we offer contests with entry fees ranging from $5 up to $270. If you click on the 'Home' tab in Fanduel you'll see a list of currently available contests, ranging from heads up against one other opponent to tournaments with hundreds of entrants, and prize pools up to $6,000. We also run the Daily Fantasy Baseball Championship, which is a two tier tournament with a $10 entry fee and a total of over $100,000 of prizes. Deposits can be made by Paypal or Visa, and as mentioned above withdrawals by Paypal or check. |

Fanduel and Draftstreet are both very legit. Both are privately held and completely legal in the U.S. (other than a few specific states like Arizona, Maryland, and Iowa). You can deposit on both via Paypal or credit card and withdraw on both by Paypal or check.
Overall, they're pretty similar...enter a contest for cash, pick a team within a salary cap, and score points based on results of one day's games. Some differences: -In general, picking a team is a bit simpler on Fanduel in the sense that scoring is slightly simpler and rosters consist of 9 players vs. 14 players for Draftstreet. -Fanduel has more traffic in h2h contests and much larger tournaments (with several tournaments of up to $5,000 prize pool every day). -Draftstreet offers 3 person contests as a standard, and their 6-20 person contests probably have similar traffic to Fanduels 5-10 person contests. -Draftstreet has some other contest types, like weekly duration and home run derby. For anyone who's interested in trying these games out without making a deposit, Fanduel has a Father's Day Freeroll this Sunday. |

This AP article got picked up by a ton of big newspapers and news sources. Discussed how some types of fantasy sports with a lot in common with sports betting (one day duration, ability to wager large amounts of cash, etc.) are completely legal because of specific carveouts in UIGEA : https://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2010/09/24/sports-us-gambling-fantasy-sports_7959074.html?boxes=Homepagebusinessnews

Not just for NBA, but AP just wrote an article about a new form of legal sports betting: https://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2010/09/24/sports-us-gambling-fantasy-sports_7959074.html?boxes=Homepagebusinessnews
