Don't forget the Nick Saban played for and graduated from Kent State. I doubt he would want to run up the score on his alma mater.

Boomer- this is just a heads up. It was reported in the Las Vegas Review Journal that Blake Decker will not start tomorrow in Fresno. Kurt Palandech will get the start. Apparently Decker is only 90% or so, but he will be available to play. Palandech is a running qb, and is not as efficient in the passing game. With that being said, he was thrown into the fire by having to play a whole half, in a rivalry game, at Nevada. He also had to take the majority of the snaps vs UCLA.
All of this may not matter anyways, as Fresno is really down this year. Admittedly, I am a Rebel homer, but the 2-4 record is not indicative of how good this team is. They lost at Michigan and Northern Illinois. They actually were leading NIU by 14 at one point. Unlv was the last team to score against Michigan. The loss against San Jose St was in overtime. Ucla did destroy the Rebs in Las Vegas in what was the only really bad loss of the year.

This game is going to get real ugly. It's a shame b/c UNLV was competitive before Decker got hurt.

I think they hired Sanchez with the caveat that the Fertittas would make a substantial donation to help upgrade facilities. The number being thrown around is 30 million dollars. If this is the case, I have no problem with the hire. UNLV has gone almost all routes in respect to their last 3 head coaches. John Robinson was successful at USC but was older and nearing retirement. Mike Sanford was an Offensive coordinator under Urban Meyer at Utah. Bobby Hauck was the coach at FCS powerhouse Montana. All 3 failed to turn this program around. How much worse can Sanchez do? The problem with UNLV football is institutional and needs to be fixed. There is zero reason for the Rebels to be perennial doormats of the Mountain West. Las Vegas is a large metropolitan area with good high school talent. If the rumors are true, the new coach can serve as a placeholder while the facilities are being built.

Some sportsbooks offer drink tickets when you make a wager. If you are making bets in casino that has them, tip the ticket writer $5 after you've placed your bets and ask for some drink tickets. You will get extra drink comps. Mandalay Bay and Luxor used to have them, but I'm not sure if they still do.

I didn't stay up to watch to game, but it seems that Hawaii was given a couple of gifts on the last drive. Two unsportsmanlike penalties were called on UNLV players after they scored what appeared to be the winning touchdown. Neither of these players were on the field at the time. 30 yards were marked off from the kickoff putting UH at the Rebel 42. There is a dispute about the next to last play. I have read that the play definitely took longer than 4 seconds, but the time keeper left 1 second on the clock, leaving the Warriors with one last chance. I would like to see the replay for myself before I state UNLV was definitely robbed.

I agree that Auburn could blow out USCe, but that big line leaves the possibility for a backdoor cover in garbage time. I think this will be a high scoring affair that goes over the total.

UNLV has a garbage coach, who will likely be fired at the end of the season. I've followed this team for years, and I think they have quit on Bobby Hauck. Fresno is a good play tonight. I think the over may cash as well.

I had UF this past weekend, and I had already written it off as a loser after I had seen that offense for a few possessions. It may be hard to pull the trigger again, but if LSU is really that bad, I may take the home Gators.

I watched the entire Ole Miss- Boise St game. First off, the final score was not indicative of how close the game really was. My concern with Ole Miss is that they were getting pushed around by Boise at the point of attack. A ranked SEC team should never struggle with a little above average Mountain West team. I know Bama has better lineman than Boise. This game may be a tale of two halves. The Rebels may come out and take an early lead, but ultimately, Alabama will pull away in the 4th.

South Carolina jumped out at me when looking at the early lines. I know Colorado is garbage and California is greatly improved, but I just can't get behind the Bears with the way they lost that game. They may come out flat after losing on the last play ( hail mary).

Carter, do you have an opinion on your Bulldogs vs. LSU this week? I think MSU is being overlooked because of the other high profile teams in the SEC West. I'm hoping the line continues to creep upwards. I may even put a little ml action on it.

I watched the whole Central Florida- Penn State game. If you just looked at the box score, you missed something huge. UCF had about 30 yards total offense ( for the game) five minutes into the 2nd half. I knew losing Bortles would hurt, but the guy who started for UCF was one of the worst qbs I have ever seen at the D1 level. Even with that pathetic offensive production, they were still close. UCF coach George O'Leary put in the backup, who is now the starter. Central Florida subsequently started moving the ball on Penn State. If Holman had started the game, UCF would have won.

I'd looked at both sides of this game and have decided to play the total over 58.
Now, we all saw BYU dominate the Texas Longhorns last weekend. Texas really couldn't get anything going against the Cougar defense- in Austin no less. I think there is a huge drop off from the UT starting qb to Swoopes. Texas was also playing without 3 lineman. Is the BYU defense really that good? A fair number of teams would've bageled the Longhorns last week. BYU' s first game of the season pitted them against that offensive juggernaut: Uconn. The Huskies played 50 players in that game, including 2 quarterbacks. I believe in the old saying ' if you use 2 quarterbacks, you don't have a quarterback'. It should also be noted that several players for the Cougars were suspended for that game. They might have put up more than 35 points had they not been down their first string running back and wide receiver. My point is this- this is BYU' s first game against a legit offense. Houston had a very poor showing against UTSA at home on opening day. They only put up 7 and turned the ball over 6 times. With that being said, UTSA is a solid, experienced team. The Roadrunners gave Arizona all they could handle last Thursday, and had a chance to win at the end. In fact, UTSA might beat the Longhorns right now if they were to play. I don't anticipate Houston turning the ball over 6 times tonight. They had an obsene + turnover margin last year. Last week UH played an undermanned Grambling squad. They almost put up 50, but that was taking it easy on GSU in the second half. Last year these teams played a 47-46 shootout. This edition may not be a carbon copy of that game, but I could see a 45-28 type of game.

I think Charlie Weis gets the can at the end of the season, if not earlier.

I think I'll wait until the total comes out. I am in no hurry to bet against the most experienced team in college football, at home, getting points on a Thursday night. Other than their first game several years ago, this is the biggest game UTSA has ever had in San Antonio. The Alamodome will be very loud.

I didn't get a chance to see either of these teams play last week. What are you guys anticipating for the total? The Longhorn D has something to prove after the embarrassing performance last year in Provo.

I just did a quick once over of both teams, and I have to say it under or nothing for me. Abeline Christian lost a ton on offense. Gone from the offense are : qb John Baker 35 td 5 int 3400 yards, rb Charcandrick West 906 yards 14 rd, rb Darrell Harkless 376 yards 5 td and 484 rec yard 5 td, wr Taylor Gabriel 1060 yards 10 td, wr Darien Hogg 737 yards 6 td. They also lose 3 starters from the offensive line. Abeline Christian brings back 8 starters from the defense.
I hope this helps. Enjoy the game!

Longhorn- I think Josh Shirley, transfer from Washington, has the potential to make an impact right away. He was a monster his freshman year, but seems to have slipped a little every season since then. Brandon Willis transferred over from UCLA. Honestly, I think anything he provides will be gravy. I just don't think he can have the impact that Shirley will. Maybe a fresh start is all these two needed. This year, I anticipate a lot of Rebel games to be shootouts/ high scoring. Unlv may have more talent overall this year, but the record won't reflect that. A 4 or 5 win season is likely.
