While LA Tech is 3-0 @ home, their competition has been dubious. NM St is an absolute train wreck, and Hawaii came in after spending three straight weeks on the mainland after games @ Washington State and UNLV. Their other home win is against Nicholls State. BSU has been tested on the road 3 times this year, @ Oregon, Fresno, & Tulsa. BSU dominated Oregon (protestations to the contrary notwithstanding), pulled away in the 4th from Fresno, and allowed Tulsa to hang around. Their other road games were against BAD teams, and BSU destroyed them. BSU has been vulnerable to the big play on the road. Tulsa scored 2 of its 3 TD's on 50+ yard pass plays. Fresno had 3 TD runs of 60+ yards. Since Fresno, there have been no big play scoring runs, ditto big pass plays since Tulsa, so it could be argued that those issues have been addressed. Still, to be fair, they have played inferior teams, as well. With the injuries to LA Tech, I would argue that these big plays are bullets Tech just does not have in its gun, at least not now. I don't see them consistently having multiple play drives resulting in td's points against BSU's defense. BSU has scored LESS than 40 points in only three games this season (Oregon, UC-Davis?????, and Tulsa). Tech's defense, while competent, doesn't scare anyone. The heat & humidity may make BSU vulnerable to a back door cover, but I believe their desire for "style" points mitigates that. Barring BSU turnovers, REALLY inspired play from a depleted Tech squad, or REALLY uninspired play from BSU, I don't think BSU has any problem covering the number, especially in the 1st half. Anything can happen, and will probably need to if La Tech covers. |
