What is the old saying, scared money never wins? Easier said than done. As soon as I put in the Chiefs last week against the Bears, i just had a feeling they would screw me over. Sure enough, they coughed up a 17-3 lead at home. That's the way my luck is running right now.

Yeah, I have gotten the runaround by 5Dimes before.
My phone number changed so I needed to update it on the account as to avoid any future potential hassles. At some books you can simply go to your account information and change your phone number. 5Dimes made me email them the same information that already appears online with them (account number, account password, name, address, birthday, old phone number, new phone number) as well as my driver's license. I got an email at 6 a.m. from them saying the phone number had been updated on the account. Given my past experiences with them, I wanted to double-check. Sure enough, that night they said they had no record of me ever emailing them my account information and driver's license and thus my phone number had not been changed. I had to email the information an additional two times, and again, this was after I received an email saying everything was updated. So it seems like everything usually takes me 3+ times when dealing with 5Dimes, but it has always eventually worked out in the end. Guess I should be happy they are so thorough, but it is frustrating when they keep telling you they have no record of your emails and I know I sent them because I always cc myself. I have always wanted to know if they intentionally give you the runaround if you start calling or chatting online with them (just to start messing with you) or if the number of steps they take varies from customer to customer.

Weeble, your thoughts on the Orioles? Just asking because it seems like you have been playing against them the last several days. (I know you didn't take NYY as a side but played their team totals.)
Is it you believe they are going to fall off a cliff after playing above their heads? Their organization has been terrible for 15 years, and then those couple of years before that, when they played big games, either Jeffrey Maier showed up or Armando Benitez hung sliders. So I know they have had a tendency to spit the bit (see J.J. Hardy's error/their pitchers giving Yankees free baserunners Saturday). Anyway, genuinely curious because it seems like they are hot right now so just wondering what has been determining your plays. As you can see, I don't post much but always look for your plays. Thanks. |

The Yankees organization is notorious for going out of the way to screw other teams over as much as possible when it comes to rescheduling games. Turnabout is fair play. The Orioles were coming off a 10-game road trip that sent them to the West Coast. A longtime Oriole who was a player, coach, broadcaster and team executive committed suicide. No wonder they didn't want to play 2 games Friday night. The Orioles did nothing wrong here. |

Blstuart, thanks for posting your rankings. I have gone back and forth on Peterson and Foster. I originally liked Peterson given his talent and that he looked to be the only legit weapon on Minnesota's offense. But now I am starting to lean toward Foster given everything I am reading and hearing about Minnesota's offensive line. Foster has his hamstring issue already, and because of that, a few have even gone so far to question his work habits after his big season. I think that is a bit of a leap to come down on the guy like that for a hamstring injury. But he plays on a much better team. What sells you on Peterson over Foster? |

Well, after reading the replies here and elsewhere and trying to study as much as I can about similar leagues, I think you keep a top running back. FWIW, most of the guys on the XM/Sirius Fantasy Sports radio channel all think McFadden (hamstrings, of course, are the big concern) has a big year. Even if what talking heads say doesn't mean much to you, you still have to think he is one of those elite running backs you target. Since you already have him, I would keep him. You are still gonna get a great QB at No. 14, if you choose to draft one there. I would rather have McFadden and Rivers rather than Vick and one of the running backs left over. There are a few top-shelf RBs but the way the NFL is nowadays, it doesn't take long to get into a split-carry situations. QB is much deeper. Even keeping McFadden, I think the odds are pretty good you get one of the consensus top 6 QBs. Even after those guys, you still have Schaub, Ryan, Freeman, Roethlisberger, Bradford, etc. |

Everyone always says to load up on RBs.
But here is the scoring in my league for QBs: TDs = 6 points, 1 point/25 passing yards, 5 points/300 passing yards; interceptions = -2 This league values the QB more than most leagues. The elite QBs in this league scored 350 to 400 points last year; the top RB, Arian Foster, scored 280. I am not sure how to go about drafting in this league. Is this a case where the RB draft strategy is thrown out the window? Or do you still go for the best RB in the first round to pair with a second- or third-tier QB? |

So is Cameron Maybin putting it all together or it this just a
hot spell highlighted by the fact he destroyed his former team? I am in a deep mixed league with 6 OF and am trying to determine if I should drop Josh Willingham for Cameron Maybin. Willingham is one of those guys no one ever seems to want, but I will take 15 to 20 HR and 60+ RBIs out of the sixth OF spot. And he is actually in the top 6 on my team in RBIs (and I rank 2nd in RBIs). Plus, if he would get traded elsewhere, especially to someplace like Philly, he just seems like a guy who would fit in well and provide some pop down the stretch. Bottom line, HR and RBIs would take a hit dropping The Hammer for Maybin, but R, Avg. and SB should improve. Talentwise, if Maybin is figuring it out, I am probably a moron for even fretting about keeping Willingham over Maybin. |

I meant to put this in Sparky's thread a few weeks ago about the player(s) you can't stand.
Jorge Posada has always been near the top of the list for me, and not just because of the latest shenanigans. More than once watching Yankees games I have seen where a piece of trash will land near home plate and Jorge, because I guess his s*&! don't stink, steps out of the batter's box and just stares at it. Because, you know, he can't be bothered to pick it up. No, the catcher has to get up out of his crouch, go take care of it, then get set up behind the plate again. Please don't tell me about that being an aspect of gamesmanship. That's more of an aspect of being a horse's behind.. Petty, I know, but thinking about that reminds me why I am not surprised by any of this current business involving Jorge. |

jpero, I know the season is young and the sample size is too small to draw any conclusions yet, but what do you think about the Orioles' lineup going forward?
I am afraid that they have tried to change Mark Reynolds. They just need to let him be who he is ... a guy who will strike out more than 150 times but will also hit at least 35 homers. But I guess his lack of power could also be attributed to changing leagues. |

Who would you choose out of those 3?
Berkman qualifies at 1B/OF, hits in a lineup with Pujols and Holliday and looks like he is in a hot streak right now. Hafner, only a few years ago, was one of the premier AL hitters. He has said his shoulder woes are behind him, he has been pulling the ball but he is 33 and only qualifies at UT. Derrek Lee missed most of spring training and his only home run so far is putting the bat on a Verlander pitch and sending it to the opposite field. He is off to the slowest start of these 3. Even though Lee has the worst numbers right now (small sample size), I still think he ends up with the best numbers of these 3. Some think he's toast because of the (lack of) bat speed, but I still wonder if he's rounding into form after missing almost all of spring training. After that, I am leaning Berkman second and Hafner third. I guess it has been so long since Hafner made a fantasy impact I just refuse to gamble on him. What say you? |

When you have to pick up a pitcher off of the waiver wire, what do you usually go with?
Obviously the first answer is it depends on the other pitchers on the roster. I get that, but I am curious if there is general rule of thumb here that's recommended as the way to go. I'm in a few 12-team 5x5 mixed leagues, and these are some of the top names left on the waiver wires: SPs Travis Wood, Alexi Ogando, Aaron Harang, Chris Young, Kyle McClellan, Jeremy Guthrie, Brian Duensing. RPs Chris Sale, Koji Uehara, Jon Rauch, Brian Fuentes, Sean Burnett, Jake McGee. My closers are such that I typically find myself building teams with one top guy (Feliz) surrounded by volatile guys (Gregg, League, Contreras). My inclination would be to pick up Travis Wood (fantasy columnists seem to always like him) or Alexi Ogando. I guess picking up Uehara would lock up the Orioles' saves. Anyway, just curious if there is usually a best route to go when picking up a pitcher. |

Yeah, I like the looks of this one as well.
I am trying to look at why I shouldn't play it. What I came up with is the White Sox look like a tired team and their bats went quiet for the last 3 days. So I would be asking a team that scored 5 runs in the last 3 games to cover the run line. Still, this is Bruce Chen, he's fading bigtime at the end of the year, the Sox typically hit him well, they are back at home and Mark Buehrle usually has K.C.'s number. I am guessing for me that will outweigh the one concern I have. |

Miami may not be as easy as it looks. And I hate admitting that as a Dolphins fan.
If there is a team C.J. Spiller, with his speed, could give fits, this is it. The Dolphins like to talk that their team speed on defense is so much greater this year, but I don't see it. The Dolphins' linebackers had trouble setting the edge all preseason, so Spiller could carve them up. The starters at outside linebackers are either gonna be Detroit Lions reject Ikaika-Alama Francis & Cameron Wake or rookie Koa Misi & Cameron Wake. And whatever 4 linebackers they start (probably I-A Francis, Karlos Dansby, Tim Dobbins and Wake), all will be making their first starts as Dolphins. Bound to be some breakdowns with that crew. Then they are turning back to first-round bust Jason Allen as a starter at cornerback. Add to that they tried to find a safety all offseason but ended up being stuck with Chris Clemons as a starter. This preseason they picked up where they left off last year, giving up big pass plays. Lee Evans could be in for a field day. Buffalo may not have a good record this year, but I fear they could burn this Dolphins defense with a couple of quick strikes given the speed some of their skill players have. Bottom line, Miami has looked out of sorts all preseason, and they could be in trouble. That's why Sparano played his starters in the fourth game then ended up paying the price when Jake Long hurt his knee. Yes, it is preseason, but Dallas' JV squad was handling the Dolphins' starters that game. |
