thanks, well i dont know that much about neural networks and how they work. i have tried the free trail of predictorXL and have tried to mimic the example of the predicting the stock market for the next day, in to predicting ncaa football scores. i have tried it with these parameters...
TOP Time of Possesion PENALTIES TURN OVERS YARDS FOR / AGAINST POINTS FOR / AGAINST with those parameters is has produced a predicted score....everything good right? nope, cause for some teams it predicts a very low score of less then 10... i have a very simple excel spread sheet for this. what i did was jot down the above parameters for each team and each game that they played...i guess i have to be more aquanted with what neural networks do to get to where we want to go... |

Okay well i just came across an add on for excel. It is a neural network software add on for excel. It is called PredictorXL, on the web site it gives examples to predict horse and dog races and even an example to predict the stock market for the next day.
I was wondering if we put our heads together we can come up with parameters to predict the out come for football, basketball and baseball. I cant seem to find any examples on line. I have also spoken to the live help on the site, and they told me that there are no examples for team sports and that i would have to come up with my own parameters for the prediction. so basically its trial and error. so that is where im at, trying to get some help or even make a team to come up with something that this tool can give us an edge. Any takers to help with this? |

I have been browsing around and found a tool called solver for excel. Its an add in for excel. i was looking for saragins fomula on how he gets his sos and ratings for sports. And i came across this tool for excel, where on this link https://www.advancednflstats.com/2008/05/homemade-sagarin-ratings.html it came close to saragins ratings. I also found that it could also be used to predict spreads and scores for football and basketball.
Has anyone else come across this and tried it out? Or has anyone have a spreadsheet using this? If not im trying to gather info on how to make a spreadsheet so it can predict spread, scores and even sos or power rating... Here are other links for info on the solver add in... https://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel/HA011246011033.aspx?pid=CH010004571033 https://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel/HA011246031033.aspx |

sorry it went 7-1 ATS and as for totals it went 1-7. but for the totals most of the predictive socres totaled 1-3 point +/- from the line...so it would have been a no play...and as for the one total that hit it was 5 points under the line...

Hey Action, got a question, how much of an impact does team rating and sos play into the predictive score...can you explain the factors of what they play into the predictive outcome. thanks in advanced..

Awesome work Action, yeah i was thinking the same thing about the player stats..that would be really a lot of work...i just about have the TAR system done on a sheet and also sergios ppg also on a sheet...just cleaning it up...its not as professional as your sheet...i can send you the systems if you want, as another tool for your arsenal...lmk...thanks again for your hard work...

thanks jayjay and action for the quick replies, well i am also looking on how to make a spread sheet like this for hoops, well right now i have a ppg system from sergio going on in hoops and i also have the TAR system on a spread sheet...i am looking to see what stats we need to input to calculate a predictive score like the yppt system. if you have any ideas please share...thanks again...
