Miami -2.5 (10 units)
Miami's running attack of Berry and Miller will set-up Harris to have a big day with his arm against the Irish. Moreover, Miami's stout defense will be too much for freshman QB Tommy Rees. Winning the turnover battle will be key in this game. I look for Miami to look like the Miami of old and spring into 2011 with a Sun Bowl victory. 34 - 17 Canes

USF +5.5
USF is 5-1 ATS in the their last 6 vs. the ACC. On the converse, Clemson is a dismal 0-4 ATS in their last 4 against the Big East and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 bowl games as a favorite. Small Play: B.J. Daniel's health is just too much of a question, along with a shaky running game.

Let's parlay last nights win with NC State and take WVU -6...
I also like the over in this match-up @ 44.5 Paylay of the Week: WVU -6 + o44.5 See you at the bank!! Main reason is WVU will look to avenge a despicable performance against Syracuse... Look for Noel D. to have a big game. UConn is 1-5 ATS in the last 6 against WVU and the over has hit 5-1...

BTW I was at the UM/FSU game... and I'm not 100% sure that FSU played well or it was more like UM played bad...
The UM game is really the only quality win FSU has... and don't forget the butt kicking they received on the road in Norman!

NC State +4
NC State has crushed this series (8-2 ATS) the past 10 year. Moreover, FSU is just 1-5 ATS as conference road favorites of less than 7 points and 7-18 ATS as favorites vs. conference revenge. NC State is 6-1 ATS as home dogs of 7 or less points and Tom O'Brien is 33-16 ATS at home in conference games in his career. Take the points!

Not only is Louisiana Tech 2-4 ATS its last 6 overall vs. Boise State, it's also important to point out that it's just 1-3 ATS after 2 or more consecutive SU wins over the last two seasons and 4-10 ATS in road games (also just 1-2 ATS as a road dog of 21 1/2-points or more).
On the other side of the field: The Broncos are 5-1 ATS and 6-0 SU to start the year; last week they annihilated San Jose State 48-0, covering as 40 1/2-point favorites. |

On the South Carolina game.. you point out that Southern Miss returns 9 starters on defense... That defense gave up nearly 400 total yard per game and ranked 109th in pass defense playing against Conference USA opponents....
Also, Garcia maybe shaky at QB for the Gamecocks, but he was the 2nd leading passer in the ACC last year... Bottom line South Carolina's defense is nasty... and they have weapons on offense... SC by 17

Arizona vs. Toledo
The Rockets will be lead by sophomore Quarterback Austin Dantin, who was named the starter earlier this week. Dantin played in seven (7) games and started three (3) last season in place of injured four-year starter Aaron Opelt. Although this is Dantin's first year starting, he'll be well equipped to take over the high scoring Rocket offense. The situation in the back field is more solid with junior Morgan Williams and junior Adonis Thomas. The Rockets are thin on experience at wide receiver, but sophomore Eric Page is the team's top individual talent. He led the nation's freshman last season with 82 catches for 1,159 yards, and his role should be expanded this season. Junior Tight End Danny Noble is an athletic and versatile player. The Rocket's strongest asset is their offensive line, returning four (4) starters from the 2009 season. Look for the Rocket's to establish an early run game to take some of the pressure off of Dantin. Defensively, the Rockets must be better. One of the reasons they gave up so many points last years is because of turnovers (+30 in 2009). Second year Head Coach Tim Beckman, a longtime defensive coordinator at Bowling Green and Oklahoma State devoted a lot his attention this off-season to the Defensive side of the ball and you can bet they will be much better this year and will protect the ball offensively. Arizona Wildcats comes to Toledo with depth at Quarterback in junior Nick Foles, and a strong running back tandem of Nic Grigsby and Keola Antolin . They have an outstanding offensive line and are experienced from top to bottom on the offensive side of the ball. Arizona's problem lies on Defense, specifically at the Linebacker position. This is where you will find a key match-up in this game. Look for Rocket's Tight End Danny Noble to have a big game against the Arizona backers, as this is a clear mismatch. Young Austin Dantin will look to his Tight End to move the sticks and continue drives. There is no question that the PAC-10 is a much better conference than the MAC . Arizona wins this match-up, but it will be a lot closer than the general public believes. Both teams are very similar in that they both can score points, but have problems playing Defense. If Toledo can hold onto the football, establish an early running game behind that experienced offensive line, and minimize mistakes at the QB position, they will be competitive in this game. Defensively, This game is a tough game to call as both teams are cut from the same mold. However, Pitt has Lewis and Baldwin on the offensive side of the ball and Romeus putting pressure on young |

The first thing that comes to my mind when handicapping this game is Pitt’s sophomore running back Dion Lewis. I believe Lewis will have a break-out year and when the dust settles will be in Junior wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin also returns for Pitt, who has dominated Big East competition, hauling in 57 catches for 1,111 yards and eight TDs last season. He could be the third Panther to win the Biletnikoff Award, following Antonio Bryant and Larry Fitzgerald. The Panthers do however have an unsettled quarterback situation following the departure of all Big-East performer Bill Stull. It looks like sophomore Tino Sunseri will get the nod for “The Stash” at QB. Both Tackles return on the offensive line for the Panthers, but the interior will be a work in progress. Even with two outstanding weapons in Lewis and Baldwin, the Panthers strength is in their defense led by All-American defensive-end Greg Romeus. Pitt led the nation in sacks (47) last fall, with the defensive line responsible for 37. The linebacking corps could be solid, led by hard hitting sophomore Dan Mason. The secondary, especially on the edge is young and inexperienced. |

Either Young or Davis will certainly be looking to get junior wide receiver DeAndre Brown involved in the passing game early. There’s not a better pure receiver in C-USA than 6’6 DeAndre Brown. Brown enters this season with added strength and weight and the possibility of setting several school receiving records. Last year the Golden Eagles struggled on defense allowing nearly 400 total yards per game and ranking 109th in pass defense. Here’s the good news: Eight starters return, including everyone up front. Questions still remain in the secondary. While the Golden Eagles are improving and will fight for the C-USA (East) title, they are just not the caliber of |

Predicting week 1 games usually comes down to the quality of the quarterback play. Garcia will try to get the ball into the hands of wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, freshman All-American in 2009. Jeffery isn’t blazing fast, but he’s physical, 6-4 specimen with a knack for hauling in the deep ball. Look for the Gamecocks to try to balance the air attack with a strong running game featuring freshman running back Marcus Lattimore.Lattimore, the nation’s top prep running back, is one of the most heralded recruits to ever sign with The Gamecocks should again rank among the SEC’s top defenses. The “black-shirts” will be led by All-SEC defensive end Cliff Matthews. The Gamecocks strength on defense is clearly the secondary. Opponents managed only 11 touchdown passes on this secondary last season, and the unit could be even better this year. Stephon Gilmore is coming off a stellar freshman season and should be one of the top cornerbacks in the nation. Southern Miss boasts unmatched depth at the QB position with juniorAustin Davis and senior Martevious Young. |
