I love golfing with my wife, we go all the time in the summer. The best advice I ever gave her was if you want to hit like a man, then you have to swing like a man. She is an athletic girl, and that helps, but she swings like a man, not this dainty crap. She is 5'3" 110 and can knock it out 210 off the tee. Be very calm and she will get it, and it's great that she shows dedication and wants to get better. She has to learn a good grip first. Every golfer who first plays golf will think that the proper grip feels weird. You don't want to let her get bad habits cause they will be hard for her to break. Others have suggested a few lessons and this is good advise. Don't get discouraged, I play all the time without my wife, but it is cool to take her along also.

Not even a contest. Grizzly would destroy a lion or a tiger. They have 3 inch claws that would shred either one of them. They are fast, strong, and very mean.

Never found Conan funny. I gave him a shot, may be it's his presentation, but I want quick laughs, not spins, camera close-ups, and facial expressions. I'll take Leno. Headlines and street interviews crack me up.

I look at "buying points" in football a little differently than most. When I decide I want to bet on a side in a game, I look at all possible wagers and lines with that side and evaluate which is the best bet for the prices available. Sportsbettors often only consider a line and not the price - they want to win that bet and disregard the price they have to pay for it - to their longterm detriment. Every bet has a line and a price, and each is just as important as the other. For instance... If I like Houston over GB, there will be a lot of standard options: 1. Houston -3 -110 (Book A) The total O/U on this game is 39. In those 4 examples, you arent officially "buying points", but in reality you are doing the same thing - increasing or decreasing the price as a line moves up or down. The key is being able to evaluate which of those 4 options is the best VALUE. The simple answer is option 4. The more complicated answer is how to get there. Generally, I apply a 22 cent fair price to buy or sell off of the 3 in the NFL, and every other half point is generally worth about 7.5 cents. But I vary off of these numbers depending on the total O/U of the game. If the total is average (say 39), then I would use the numbers above. If the total is 55, then the fair value becomes lower for those half points, and if the total is 32 it becomes higher. My thinking is that a half point is worth more to me in a game that is expected to only have 32 points than a game that is expected to have 55 points. So in the example above, I can recalculate all of the lines to -3, and assign a price so that I can compare apples to apples and see the best value: 1. Houston -3 -110 (Book A) So now it is clear to see that with these options, Option 4 is the best price, Option 3 is next, then option 1 and 2. I always bet the line / price combination that has the best value. A lot of sportsbetters dont care about longterm, they want to win a bet TODAY and so they overpay to buy points. But longterm, this is a losing proposition. Selling points is often much better than buying points for longterm expected value, but it reduces your chances of winning that bet today, so most sportsbettors wouldnt consider it. This is a major difference between "recreational" and "professional or profit minded" sports gamblers. Generally, I would never buy points and pay 10 cents to get a half of a point. This is because I value half points at about 7.5 cents. I never bet basketball, so cant really comment on the value of buying there - but I am sure it is the same drill - you have to pay a premium to do it so it is probably not a good idea. I know this is a little longwinded, and didnt answer your questions one by one - but I hope you can use this - I tried to explain it in as simple of terms as possible and keep it as short as possible - its just that I look at this concept differently than most so if I were to answer "do you buy points the traditional way" the simple answer would be no - but I do often buy or sell non-traditionally because the price determines how I bet. |

I would go for sure. We have gone every year for the last 7 years in September. Cheapest time of the year, and the weather is perfect. The captain will re-route the ship if there is bad weather. One time we had to hit the islands in backwards order, no big deal. The added bonus is the kids are in school and it makes it easier for the P's to watch them. That also means less kids on the boat, usually only a few kids from England, must be on a different schedule. Have them rate you in the casino, I get a credit anywhere from 750 to 1000 each time.

Well, if there is a bright side, she learned a valuable lesson on how shitty people can be. To bad she didn't put a back door or bug in his system so she could activate it if he screwed her over. Not a computer expert, but watch a lot of movies, and that would be poetic justice, maybe next time. Good luck to the both of you..........

Some things that others seem to love that you just can't understand.....
in General Discussion
Facebook and MySpace......Maybe I"m wrong but people get a life. The people I want to talk to I do, I don't need to speak to someone I went to school with 35 years ago. There is a reason we didn't stay in touch.
Text messaging..............Still don't get it, if you need to speak to me, then call me, if you don't want to speak to me, then don't call. I don't want you thoughts unless we are in conversation, so impersonal. NASCAR.......totally agree. I drive 80 on the highway with more cars and way less talented opponents. Very boring in my mind. Bottled water.......Anyone who pays for water is a moron. Unless you have well water, stop buying it. Put a filter on your house water if you must and stop buying it.. There has been tons of test that show regular tap water is equal, and sometimes surpasses bottled water. Diet anything.........It taste like shit. Eat or drink smaller portions, but they are missing the ingredients that make them taste good. Try working out and cutting back, but don't torcher yourself. Eat the food the way it was meant to be eaten, with fat and sugar. Soccer.......All they do is run back and forth and bitch and moan. Then when it is all done the score is 0-0. Shorten the playing field by 50 yards, narrow it by 20 yards and keep the goals the same size and I might give it a shot. Drinking age of 21.........Stupid, if you can vote, you should have the mental capacity to drink. If you can die in war, you sould be able to crack open a cold one. Lower it to 18. End of story Not leagalizing weed.......I don't smoke it, but if I wanted to I should be able to. The money we would save from the war against drugs, tax revenue, and jails would be huge. This is the home of the free and the brave, lets start loosening up the embilical cord. |

I guess it's a matter of opinion. By definition, it is a sport.

Played baseball in high school, batted over 400 every year, and don't know exactly, but figure there had to be many guys that were pitching over 70mph. Point being it was a progression through the years. As the pitchers got faster, my timing grew also. Everyone says how hard it is to hit a 95mph fast ball, well today it would be, but if I kept playing , I think I could. If your not chicken shit, and have some coordination, you can get the timing down. I can hit the fast, it says 80mph, at the batting cages with the kids very consistently after a couple turns. I understand they also throw curves and sinkers and such, but it's still a progression. The MLB players can do it consistently better. They are also incredible athletes.
Golf on the other hand has way too many facets to conquer. Too many aspects of the game, and they are all a bitch to do. I have known many talented athletes who have played many years and continue to suck at it. I personally think it is the hardest sport to excel at. For all the people who think it is not a sport, try it, work at it, and I think you'll find it's a great sport, and very difficult to achieve any success in. |

I blame the consumers. I built a house in 98', got a 30 fixed at 7.5%. When I closed rates were down to 7, but I had to lock in and guessed wrong. About 2 or three years later rates were down to 6%, so I again locked in on a 30 year fixed. In 2004 rates dropped again and I got a 15 year fixed at 4.875%. I didn't take any extra money out and I rolled the escrow check back into the principle. After all these years, I only owe 62000 on a house worth 350000 in today's market. I went to my local bank and they required documented income. This was the key. I went to a mortgage broker and they were trying to show me how much more money I could get at lower rates even without verifing income. I also knew someday you have to pay it back. People want to cry foul, but they knew they were bullshitting mortgage companies with their abilities to pay back the loan, and the mortgage co. were allowing it. Just remember, if there wasn't people trying to get something for nothing, there would have never been a housing bubble and burst. Until people realize you actually have to work for things, and if it sounds too good to be true than it probably is, this country will always have problems.

Chilitokid,
If your financing, this is where the appraisal will be very important. My sister-in-law is having a problem with their buyers because their appraisal came back too low. She is selling a condo in downtown Chicago and it seems that not long ago some guy in her building had a fire sale on her identical condo. This dropped her appraisal and the buyers mortgage company is giving them trouble on the financing. I would say don't worry about low balling the seller and wait for a counter offer. Also don't worry about offending the seller by going too low, when there are not many offers out there, they will consider everything. Good luck. |

I spent about 4500 back in 1997. Went to downtown Chicago on Wabash Ave. to a Jewish wholesaler. When you go into regular stores you may find 5 or 6 rings with the cut you want. These people wanted to know exactly what size and shape, and then brought out 8 trays with probably 500 loose stones with various color and clarity grades in a marquee cut in the range of .99 to 1.01 carats. Never seen anything like that before. Bought the stones and had a jeweler set everything. In a regular store I would have paid 3 times as much. Personally I would get as much as you can. Remember if things work out she will wear it the rest of her life. Also other woman will always look at her ring. I know it is shallow, but to girls it means a lot, even if they act like it doesn't. I guess you could always add something later and there is much better things to spend money on, but hopefully it's the last one you ever have to buy, good luck.

You can find it cheaper than invoice. Don't forget the dealers have hold-back, which they don't like to play with, advertising pay, and internal incentives that they get from volume of sales. When you pay invoice, they are still making over a grand for sure. Wait till the end of the month to buy, that's when you can really get a better deal on their end of the month sales totals. Also do your homework, someone already mentioned Edmonds, but also look for Infiniti forums, because they will usually have a section that will show problems most people are having, and what real people have paid for their cars with different options. Personally I like to go at the end of the month, and about an hour before closing, but have a price in mind, and remember these people are not your friends, lowball their asses, try for free lifetime oil changes, go for the kill, and good luck.

I'm about 30 miles southwest of the city in Plainfield and it hasn't rained here in over an hour. It will clear the city within the next 20 minutes or so. They will never cancel this game, it will be played today no matter what.
