President Barack Obama condemned the
violence in Ukraine on Wednesday, saying that the U.S. holds the
government “primarily responsible for ensuring they are handling
protesters peacefully” and that “there will be consequences if people
step over the line.”
“We expect
the Ukrainian government to show restraint, to not resort to violence,”
Obama said after arriving in Mexico for a brief trade summit. “We expect
peaceful protesters to remain peaceful.”
( As of a couple hours ago.. it's reported that at least 25 people were killed and 240 injured in the latest flare-up of the "peaceful protests.)
The White House moved the last "don't step over the line "threat nearly two months ago in the early days of the
anti-government movement.. when it threatened to impose sanctions against the Eastern
European nation...

There isn't one country that respects or gives a damn what Obama says. He's looked at as a joke and for good reason. Say what you want about Bush but foreign countries listened and took notice when he talked.

"Haha, the Ukraine? You know what the Ukraine is? It's a sitting duck, a road apple Newman. The Ukraine is weak....it's feeble. I think it's time to put the hurt on the Ukraine" -Cosmo Kramer

So I suppose if we sat on the sidelines, said nothing and innocent people were killed then you would make a thread bashing Obama for being weak and not wanting conflict.
If you are looking for things to bash him on, I am sure you can find pretty much anything and angle it in the direction you like...

This is another one of those damned if you do and damned if you don't situations...
While I am not an Obamamite... I cannot see how anyone can pass judgement on President Obama in this situation... While it causes my fingers to ache to type this... I agree with WCS totally... The President is going to be criticized regardless of what he does.

i don't know, it's terrible that people are dying kin ukraine but what the darn do we need to get involved for? we don't have enough problems. so if obama wants to talk about it and throw some threatening rhetoric at it, so be it, that doesn't cost anything but beyond that, i'd say just let it play out.
in how many countries is something similar happening. just because they show the fires on youtube doesn't mean we need to get involved..

President Obama said he expect the Ukrainian government to show restraint, to not resort to violence in dealing with peaceful protesters,”
Obama added that the United States also expects protesters to remain peaceful and that.. "We'll be monitoring very closely the situation"
Obama expects the the protesters to remain peaceful ?
Doesn't he not get up dates on the golf course about the crisis in Ukraine ?
A month ago the protesters were throwing firebombs at the Ukraine House conference center ..
Since then the protesters in Kiev have not been peaceful ...The protests are digging up paving stones and passing them on to fighters to throw at the police ...firing Molotov cocktails attached to fireworks at police .. knife stabbings, clubbings with morning stars and burning tires, cars and trucks in the streets...
With these aggressive and excessive attacks against the Ukrainian police ... 10 police officers have been killed so far...
If this is protesters remaining peaceful ..I hate to see what they would do if they start to riot....

For one Syria ....40,000 to 60,000 more people have been killed in the protest turned civil war since President Obama's infamous red line threat ...of course I guess ..you could call this an Obama success,, because although Assad is still killing his people at a nice little clip..he's not doing it with chemical or biological weapons..

Another would be Venezuela. So far the Obama administration has made no statement or taken any actions in response to the unrest...or addressed the killings...people have been shot dead and many injured.
Three U.S. diplomats have been kicked out of the country byVenezuelan President Nicolas Maduro..
SoS John Kerry said "We are particularly alarmed by reports that the Venezuelan government has arrested or detained scores of anti-government protestors,"
There were many protestors who committed crimes: they attacked and injured police with chunks of concrete and Molotov cocktails; they burned cars, trashed and sometimes set fire to government buildings; and committed other acts of violence and vandalism.

The Obama foreign policy is as uneven as pretty much all of our prior Presidents since the Reagan/Haig doctrine changed foreign policy perspectives. If anything, sans Egypt, Obama's more closly resembles Reagans in the "best interest of America" standard. Bush's policy did not. Whether one supported the Iraqi War or not, pretty much any intellectual student of policy understands that the Iraqi War was not in our best interests.

Agree, but you forgot to include Afghanistan. Why are we still there???

Theprotesters rejected the Ukranian governments call for a truce with the protesters yesterday.. and the peaceful protestersrenew the offense in Kiev..
Peaceful protesters have reached the Rada building (the country's parliament), while the police have been pushed back into Mariinsky park nearby.
Protesters bombard police officers with paving bricks and Molotov cocktails..The Interior Ministry of Ukraine said that at least 23 police officers had been injured by sniper fire and two police officers killed on Independence Square ....67 police have been captured..
Today,,President Obama reinforced his strongly worded warning about crossing the line saying.. the U.S. is outraged by violence in Ukraine and is urging President Viktor Yanukovych to withdraw forces from downtown Kiev immediately.

Our mistake in Afghan is similar to what we did in Iraq when we reduced troops (before the surge). We have left ourselves weak with lack of force. We either need to reinforce and maintain an oversight presence or we need to cut bait.
From a strategical perspective, Afghan is more important than Iraq. One major reason being that Afghan no longer has a viable 'check in place' that we saw with Iraq over the years (Iran and Turkish support for the Kurds). Power in Afghan can be consolidated more quickly and more brutally than in Iraq. The various factions are simply too weak for the kind of civil war among dissidents that we are seeing in Syria (which, while horrible for the Syrian population, is in our interests).

Did you miss the Civil war that is currently happening in Iraq?
No. In fact I indirectly referenced it. My statement was pretty complex look at when internal wars may be in our interest and why it wouldn't happen in Afghan if we left.
Since it was general policy analysis without support or criticism of Obama, or any President really, it likely went over your "Obama is pure evil hellbent on destroying the world and life as we know it" level of understanding.
