Reading the entire quote places the statement in perspective. It has nothing to do with socialism and everything to do with reality.
Then again, you just aren't articulate enough to understand the concept absent Fox News telling you what to think. ![]()
“There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me because they want to give something back,” the president said. “If you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.
“If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen,” he said. “The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.”

Well, I am interested to see what portions of the quote you disagree with rather than just agreeing with the headline that Fox News attributed.
It will take critical thinking, though. If you want a good example of doing so, just read an Esplanade post and do the exact opposite. ![]()

"Reading the entire quote places the statement in perspective. It has nothing to do with socialism and everything to do with reality."
Then why not post the whole quote?
You seem to have missed the last line of the quote for some reason ..
"The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.”
Was it ommited because it contradicts his earlier argument ? “If you’ve got a business .... you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen....
So the entrepreneur didn't build it and somebody else made it happen..how can they suceed on their own individual initiative ?
How come everytime Obama speaks without the TOTUS he makes gaffes or contradicts himself..?

"He's saying" ....
Too funny... the great communicator speaks and every Obama loving cockroach has to come out and interpret the meaning ...
"Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen."
Does not the singular pronoun "that" refer to the most recent noun "business", not something in the previous sentence ?

<<I actually saw it on TV. I used the link from Fox News because I knew it would make you happy. There are probably a hundred other websites you can go to to see the same words.>>
I am absolutely shocked that you did not answer my question about the quote from post #8. I presume you are waiting for Fox News to email you back the answer. ![]()

Obama's main problem is that he's not the actual problem.
Republicans and Conservatives, which is it,or is it both : You want MORE for yourself...You want LESS for others ??

“If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen,” he said. “The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.”"
The problem with statements like this is that you have to then ask -- OK, well what portion is more greatly responsible for success -- the individual's effort? The government's help?
Let's put it this way -- if whether a person succeeds or fails was more influenced by the government's help than by the individual's own effort, wouldn't you expect to see, on the whole, equal levels of success across society? I mean everyone has access to roads. Everyone has access to a public education. Despite that, we know that overall success is in fact not equally or even remotely equal.
The President is probably right that everyone who is successful didn't get their wholly on their own -- by virtue of the fact that you are a citizen of the USA, you have certain things available to you like roads and a public education. That being said, to borrow a sports analogy, hard work beats talent when talent refuses to work hard.
I do disagree with him 100% that people with successful business have it because someone else made it happen. I tend to think he probably mis-spoke when he said this and is likely regretting it now. Its a really bad quote.
