I’ve seen (unfortunately, not read) some of Stossel’s stuff and it makes sense to me. Pretty sure it’s libertarianism, which I believe, in the very rudimentary way in which I understand it, is a viable political philosophy. Like everything, it’s probably not perfect. One of its beliefs is very limited government, which is the great divide between people today who ponder this.
One thing I can think of, off the top of my head, is that one who espouses Libertarianism would say its OK for a person to ingest whatever he wants in his body, provided he doesn’t hurt anyone else.
I don’t think a Libertarian would be in favor of seat belt or helmet laws.
I probably shouldn’t comment on a subject I know little about. I do know that John Stuart Mill was perhaps the original proponent of Libertarianism.
Those of the collectivist mindset I’m sure would disagree; and I’ll bet have some valid points.

Libertarianism is not perfect, but it is the best political philosophy, IMO, to make the world and America better, and one that I proudly endorse. The seat belt and helmet laws angle does poke a hole in libertarianism. Everyone is for limited government interference; the problem is that people are arguing for what the government’s role in America is.

the problem is that DEM/GOP are not philosophies but blind faith religions... with absolute power and dictatorship they believe everything their religious leaders tell them... they have their own 700 club networks to them the news and about the world...
you even see the aliases cut/pasting their "scripture"

I see your point DL. The sad part about it, is when people do finally wake up, it will be too late.

All this talk about politics this and what party that, its all cute.
The driving force behind any political decision is not politics.
The money pulling the puppet strings is the target, not which political platform and ideals you support.
You’re right, wallstreetcappers, special interest groups and lobbyists are in control of the president but that doesn’t mean that politicians don’t make political decisions on their personal feelings towards a particular issue.
Everything in place has been placed together by special interest groups, lobbyists, and personal politics. You can’t ignore the character of the politician, the character of the party platform and just say it’s only money making decisions.
I listen to people based on their character. People vote on a person’s character. I am friends with people based on their character. I am a fan of a person based on their character. I judge people based on their character. If I vote for a person, it’s because of their character.

That really doesnt matter though because the odds of anyone with any character you agree with coming out clean is remote.
The machine is corrupt, it doesnt matter R or D or I or L or whatever else.
Unless money is completely removed the results will remain the same.
Glenn, WSC was being sarcastic, when he said cute.
So, WSC, you’re saying that even Ron Paul is corrupt? I want to vote for Ron Paul, and I disagree with almost half of what Ron Paul stands for but I have a hard time seeing him as corrupt.
The machine is corrupt WSC, but to say it doesn’t matter if an R or D is in power is hard for me to believe because of the impact that Nixon, Reagan, Bush Sr. and Jr. had on destroying America.
What your telling me is that those presidents didn’t make the decisions, I believe destroyed this country, based on their personal beliefs but were influenced by special interest groups and lobbyists?

Yes I do think RP is corrupt, he takes money from PAC's just like the others and those PACs have agendas and financial interests as a means of organizing so positively he is influenced by outside interests.
Now some will say he is better than others and they like some of his ideas so they overlook or dismiss the reality that yes he does take money from secretive PACs and those groups have expectations and are not giving the money for nothing..there are strings attached.
And no I dont think it matters on a large scale about what the party is, meaning the way our system is run has to do with the money greasing the wheels and those wheels come from the private and corporate groups.

No doubt WSC, of coarse PACs have an influence on what happens in politics but personal agendas play a huge role also. To say all of the laws and bills passed through, are only created by special interest groups and lobbyists, and political parties and politicians have no personal agendas for how they believe the country should operate, is completely taking out the personal element in politics.
Ron Paul might have PACs influencing some of his decisions but RP will put his own personal touches on things he believes should be changed, based on his own philosophy, if he was to become president. To say only money runs the country and not personal character is IMO, to takeout one crucial element in government.
