i know they struggled down the stretch, but remembering the year the white sox won the world series, they did the exact same thing, getting their act together for the last two games of the season. The cards meanwhile, did not get their act together at the end of the season. Dodgers will play for revenge and have home to do that. Dodgers were at the tops of the league in home wins and walk offs and now they're catching plus money in a just win scenario. The public is always off on at least half of the postseason games/series and this is one the public has already handed to the cardinals. furthermore, NL west was the strongest division in the NL this year and i think that plays here too.

Dodgers....They break the Red Bird curse starting with game 1 and move on to the League Finals against the Phillies.
THEN its Back to the Future Dodger v Yankee World Series,,,,and we all know who will that one DODGERS!!!!
DO DODGER BLUE
The DODGERS are the Best Team with the Best Pitching, Best Fielding, Best Hitting and Best Manager...Period!!!!
That LAD is starting Randy Wolf (against Cy Young candidate Chris Carpenter) for this Game 1, is proof positive that their pitching sucks . . . period.

I`m with Wangichu on this one..Award bull-shit aside...Carpenter much like Lee has spluttered in the home stretch of the regular season which is nothing major but never a good thing leading into the playoffs ... Randy can give as good as he gets and the home yard advantage will be a factor in this series with both teams pens playing a major role..I am running with the wisdom of Torre in this opener, that is not to say La Russa is any lesser..But every dog has its day and with the value on offer for a Dodgers at home ,a pen that is more than capable of closing out tight games and Torre at the helm , I see value in the home pup here. finally someone hit the nail on the head. that being chapter_and_vs. baseball has nothing to do with curses or revenge or where the public money is. maybe in football where your just tying to beat the hell out of the guy across from you, i'll buy those theories and the more pissed off team can win despite talent. but in baseball..not so much. its simple...you have two similarly talented lineups. .. BET ON THE BETTER PITCHER! pitching pitching pitching. the team with the best pitching wins 90 percent of the time. and in this one it ain't even close...cardinals all day and night

i think people are looking at this game a little to plain and simply. The dodgers were one of the best home teams in the game, specifically walking off late A LOT. randy wolf has pitched better and better as the year went on. The dodgers have a lot more of an all around lineup and finished the year on the upswing, taking the last two of the year against the rocks, while the cards struggled late, and their bullpen started to collapse, specifically via franklin's struggles. Even if you seriously underestimate wolf so much as to say that he couldn't go run for run with carpenter (not to mention wolf is a way better hitter), you are tripping if you think that the dodgers can't get to the st. louis bullpen in so many more ways than the cards can get to theirs. teams with deep benches go far in the playoffs and the dodgers seem to have the most depth of any team in the playoffs ala belliard, thome, mienkewicz (sp?), loretta, pierre (all starters for a good part of their respective careers) and much more.
For those of you who see this stuff too... even with the public on the cards, there is a little Reverse Line movement as the sharps have got the books scared of dodger money tonight. If the cards were to win this game, they would be -150 favs by now, if not more.
