One of the neatest things about college basketball is when a nationally ranked team walks into a mid-major's gym. It doesnt happen very often anymore. Just ask Coach K. He openly admits he will never agree to bring Duke into a mid majors gym because he feels there's nothing to gain for his players. Win and they were supposed to win. Lose and they open sportscenter as the "shocking upset of the night!" Duke will play anyone on a neutral, in the Jimmy V classic, or at Cameron. But they would never sign on to walk into a mid major's gym and become the opposing team's "game of the year" There are two games from last year that stick out. Last year UNC went to Northern Iowa and lost outright.. Virginia went to George Washington and lost outright And most recently Indiana walked into IPFW's gym and we all know what happened there. The first thing IPFW's coach Jon Coffman said after the game was " I would just like to thank Tom Crean for taking this game. We won this game before it even started" The players and fans had that game circled before the season even started and carried that adrenaline to "shock" the Hoosiers.
Tonight Butler comes to Indiana State as a nationally ranked 9 point favorite. This has to be a game that the Sycamores had circled when the schedule came out. An in-state rivalry and a chance to take out big brother. Ive followed this team a bit and they do seem to have a junk yard dog mentality in them. Love their point guard Everett Clemens and the energy he brings both offensively and defensively. They lost by less than 3 to both Iowa State and Stanford in the Advocare tourney recently before having a bad loss to Q-pac in the 7th place game. ISU-blue seems to play up to their competition.
I am taking the Sycamores +9 as a multi unit play. And i mainly wrote this because everyone should pay attention when a power conference team steps foot into a mid major's gym. Because when they win outright, its really not all that shocking.

Ya I will probably wait to see if this goes up anymore. But might be a good play. Just depends on how they matchup and if Indiana St keeps it a game at all. With 10 points, they'd need to keep it close atleast up until the last couple minutes. I do like that Indiana St is 6-1 ATS, but on the other hand Butler is 6-2 ATS. So Indiana St is overachieving. I think you're right, I think they probably do have this one circled on their calendars. I'll probably play it.

Also, Butlers next 2 games after this are vs Cincy and @ Indiana, 2 ranked opponents with only 1 loss each. And here they are playing Indiana St, a 4-4 team.

Why not? I mean why wouldn't you make this bet? Everything you pointed out. If you don't have an extra Unit just for fun than why are you here? I love the write-up and I'm in for 3. Terre Haute rocking tonite.

Was Butler even ranked in the preseason? They're probably one of the surprises of the year.
Anyway, Indy St almost beat Iowa St so +10 seems like a good deal at home. Like you said, why would anyone schedule an away game with a mid-major team? It's a lose lose.
I'm going with the under, hope they slow the pace and play tough defense.

I agree w alot of what you say but other than a brief respite between 2008-11 this is pretty much an annual matchup. Its not a major walking into a mid majors gym in a scheduling quirk.
