How is this division 2 team only a 7 point underdog to a div 1 team that beat teams like syracause. Plus the good team is in home and undefeated and the div 2 team is on the road and they lost all 4 away games on the road by an avg of 20 points! They even lost their last game against a high school/college prep team!
How on earth is this line -7 for st. johns. Shouldn't it be closer to 20?
Are the books throwing a bone to the gamblers to get them excited for the weekend and have them hooked with the feeling of winning or is this going to be one of those fixed games like out come where the no chance team miraculously covers or even wins straight up?

Good spot to fade the Johnnies. Playing in Carnesecca Arena tonight after beating Syracuse at MSG, I doubt we get a full effort from the home team. Line tells you everything you need to know. BOL

Negative interest in playing this game, but St. John's shot out of their as*es against Cuse...12/24 from distance is NOT going to happen again this season. Further, the Johnnies have serious turnover issues (#323 turnover percentage) and Incarnate Word will bring pressure for 94 feet (#8 in % turnovers forced). ICW also won't turn the ball over. Of course, I doubt ICW can keep St. John's off the defensive backboards, but I do expect 20+ turnovers to offset the rebounding deficit. Keep in mind this ICW team turned over a solid ballhandling team, Cal, 19 times last week.
Really odd game and a massive flat spot for St. John's. Line is way too sharp me to make a play, but I'll be floored if today's St. John's team resembles even a shell of the one we saw dispatch Syracuse five days ago.

Appreciate your writeup. An interesting contrast between a good rebounding team versus a good team at creating turnovers. Do you have thoughts on the job of Chris Mullins so far? Or any knowledge of the coaching on the other side?

If they are #8 in forcing turnovers who are their record so bad. Their last loss was to some no link (in covers) team...that means that school is div 2 or worse lol. Does anyone have info on the team that beat Incarnate Word in their last game?

I think i will pass this game.
I'm not advocating ICW. Line is way too tight to bother with a play, especially with a massive card on-deck tomorrow.
The point of my post was to show that there are two sides to every coin.
ICW has the #1 strength of schedule in the country right now. SOS on KenPom only includes games against Division I teams. Here are ICW's four D1 opponents:
@ Purdue (#2)
@ Oklahoma (#3)
@ Cal (#57)
@ Sac State (#200)
When capping a game, I am generally interested in two things: (a) the spot and (b) the matchup. This is without a doubt a miserable spot for St. John's. The matchup presents issues for both teams, but St. John's has looked horrendous against pressure this year.
In the final exhibition prior to the start of the regular season, they were waxed at home by Division II St. Thomas Aquinas, 90-58. Yes, 32 point loss at home to a DII school. Like ICW, Aquinas pressures from end to end and they harassed St. John's into 27 turnovers. Granted, this current St. John's team has improved since then, but they coughed it up 19 times against another DII opponent, Chaminade, in a game played late in November (Maui Invitational).
Of course, the entire complexion of this team can change if they manage to get Lovett eligible in the near future. He was expected to run the team from the get-go and his absence has predictably hampered their ability to hang onto the ball.
Simply looking at a team's record and saying "why haven't they won more games" is an unproductive means of capping games.

They lost 99-97 at home to Our Lady of The Lake (awesome name). Lake hit 17 threes. Word had 3. Haves to tie in final minute and didn't get it done. Small play on SJU since I live right off Union tpke.

Incarnate Word plays a zone defense that gave Cal fits before Cal finally pulled away late. I'd be careful w/ the Johnnies here.St. John's could be in for sloppy letdown after Syracuse.

Word just gave it to St Johns in the booty haha. Anytime that can shoot 44% from 3 with over 20 attempts and force a 2:1 turnover ratio will most likely win outright, especially if the opposing team shoots a lower FG percentage with 10 less shots taken. St Johns looked like a D2 team playing a D1 team. As Chuck would say... that was terrible, TRBL. Haha
