According to the basketball committee and most in America who look at the seedings as to which team is better, Virginia is 3 seeds better than Michigan State. "Virginia is the better team because they have a much better seed". This will be considered an upset in the brackets if Virginia, the one seed, loses to a 4 seed.
However, Michigan State is a 2 point favorite in Vegas, lol. This means Michigan State is the better team and will win. To be safe, bet the Michigan State moneyline.
Automatic win, so you can bet it single or parlay it with something else.
You don't get many sure things from Vegas, but this is one. Whenever you have such a discrepancy in seeds with Vegas saying the worse seed is better by pointspread, Vegas is always right.
BANK IT! Good luck with the rest of your picks now that I gave you this automatic win.

Not so fast. The betting world is not stupid, everyone knows msu was ranked #1 in begginning of season and also blew through the big 10 tourney. Mich St is a public favorite over A lesser heard of Virginia team in the college basketball world. Virginia has been the most consistent and plays the best team basketball of everyone other than maybe florida. I think this Virginia team is destined for the final four. Good luck though

easy there buddy I am 100% on MSU but NOTHING and I mean NOTHING is definite and guaranteed.. anything can and anything will happen especially in the tourney.. that shouldn't be your reason for playing MSU lol... because that they are a higher seed and vegas has them favored. terrible reasoning.. The reason why I have already pounded MSU when it was at -1 is because right now MSU is playing their best basketball of the entire year.. everyone is healthy and they are finally coming together as a team.. I believe that Virginia's inconsistency from the outside will show in this game and MSU will take full advantage of it.

Wait, what?? Because MSU is the favorite, they'll win??
Please tell me that's not what you are basing your wager on??
Not to mention, the seeding is done based on a look at the ENTIRE year, not just how a team is playing now. They aren't set up to say Team A is "3 seeds" better than Team B. There are also a TON of other variables that go into how point spreads are made, least of which is seeding.
MSU was also a WAY more popular pick to reach the FF than UVA was (at least in every pool/prediction I have seen) so the general consensus BEFORE the tourney was that MSU had an edge. Line is set where it should be.
Please don't think you have cracked some code on Vegas!!!
Either way, good luck on your wager. I have no opinion on this game, but will be rooting for UVA.

I kept saying to myself that Virginia can't be all that. Yeah yeah nice season. Duke not what they usually are. UNC young and talented but lack defense. But after watching UVA the last few games they are the real deal. A team like Tennessee gave them problems. That was a long time ago, but UVA apparently learned a lot from that game. I will go out on a limb and say this If Harris and that other kid Perrantes shoot 40% or better UVA will will this game. You never know about Harris. Sometimes he is on and sometimes he can't throw it in the ocean. I think that will be the key to this game.

This is playing out similarly to the Super Bowl. Flashy Denver with the hall of fame QB going against the best 'team' and defense in the league. Statistically, the Seahawks were favored, but the public was so impressed by Denver in the AFC championship game and Peyton Manning that the line moved immediately to Denver -2.5. And it stayed there and people couldn't believe what a great line they were getting.

Random points answered from above: Harvard played good basketball this year and Michigan State did what they had to , to beat Harvard. I wouldn't bet against Michigan State because Harvard had an exceptional year. A couple people mentioned they really like how Virginia was playing in this tournament. Go look at the half time score where Virginia was down by five to Coastal Carolina of all teams. I had Seattle to win the superbowl, so I'm not sure how that compares here. And yes, you get a 4th seed as a 2 point favorite over a 1 seed in the sweet 16 round, you take the 4 seed. I'm suggesting pay the moneyline though. I'm still absolutely certain Michigan state wins the money line. When Vegas is putting a 4 seed (3 seeds worse) over a 1 seed, Vegas has a reason. Go with Vegas's assessment of Michigan State being the better team and you'll win money. I think the moneyline is around -135, maybe you can find it cheaper. Exceptions might be a key player for Michigan State got hurt. But that's not what we're hearing is it?

In any other year, I'd agree with OP. When the lower seed is favored, that's an automatic reason to take it.
The problem with the Mich St/Virginia game is that everyone's already been saying the selection committee screwed up its seedings and that MSU shouldn't be rated that low and that Virginia is overrated.
With all that feedback, it's surprising that Virginia is only a 2-pt dog. Look at the odds to win the East regional. MSU is +100 while Virginia is +200. If those odds made sense, MSU should be a 4 pt favorite or so.

Flashy Michigan State with the 4-5 NBA 1st rounders going against the best 'team' and defense in the NCAA (Virginia). Statistically, the Hoos are favored, but the public was so impressed by MSU in the Big 10 tournament and Tom Izzo that the line moved immediately Michigan State -2. And it stayed there and people couldn't believe what a great line they were getting.

MSU was not healthy for a good part of the year, and the selection committee looks at your entire season when seeding teams. So while they are a #4 seed based on the year, they are certainly not a true #4, probably more like a #2 or even a #1 arguably.
As I said earlier, MSU was way more of a consensus pick to reach the FF than UVA was (pre-tourney). That pretty much validates the perception that MSU is on par (or better) than UVA to most.
If you have any tangible evidence in past on teams with lower seeds that are favored I would love to hear it, even though it doesn't necessarily apply here. Same as how AP rankings don't mean much when capping a game in the regular season. It's all about form, match ups, etc.
It's scary when people betting on a game use certainties like "automatic" when discussing a game. A HUGE red flag. Nothing is automatic, and there are no absolutes in gambling.
All that being said, I'm not knocking the pick in general. I think it could be a great game between two legit teams.

I said Michigan State would win. Michigan State won. I also said to take the moneyline in both posts. I knew if Vegas was putting a seed as a 2 point favorite, the 4 seed must be better. Hey, good effort of criticism of my pick by those who participated.
