Guys, a friend and I have been arguing back and forth about the toughest conference this year. With so much parity around this year, I think it is difficult to judge based on conference records....I would like to hear some responses and reasons...I am typing up my argument while you are thinking!!!!

It depends what you consider "best conference" if you look at just the tops... I would say the Big East is the best... if you look for depth of conference from top to bottom... I would say the ACC or the Big 12...

Its funny u mention ACC and Big 12....These are the two conferences that we argue about the most. He is a huge Kansas Fan and I am a Dukie....However, I am usually a bit more unbiased when it comes to rankings...He swears the Big 12 is by far the toughest conference to play in this year.

can't believe anyone is even debating this this season....even RU and Depaul could wax most of the ACC teams, certainly the cellar dwellars

I think out of conference records makes things difficult as well....The Big East has struggled outside the Big East...But some of the top teams in each conference have beaten others.
The Big ten is undervalued, but I think Mich St, Ohio St, and Purdue could be scary come tourny time...
This is why I think this is a good topic of discussion...This year is interesting when you start talking, because so many teams are beating up on one another....

How could someone say the big east doesn't have the most depth with all of those solid teams bunched up in the middle? The Big East is clearly the best conference.

1 bigeast 2 big 10 3....toss up acc/big 12..lean big12 this season
there are diff factors for each person in choosing the best. The big east has 16 teams, thats alot, i think that if you randomly took out 5 teams they would not be as glorified. People lose site of the fact that the top 4 big ten teams especially spartans, buckeye, and purdue have the team, fight, coaches to make a final 4, other than the big east there isnt any other conferece that can match the top teams. Big 1- kansas is the leader with K state close behind, but i dont look at a kstate and think they are a tougher out than lets say wisconsin or marquette. ACC is finally fun to watch, so sick of northcarolina/duke...then everyone else, but i dont even think there conference winner is better than big ten/east 4th best........the big ten gets ripped on all the time nationaly, for many reasons. I think the big ten style is the most condusive to the tournamnet, it is defense rebounding and good shot selection...a recipe that will keep teams in a game.....i am about to get slammed for this, but....TAKE OUT 5 RANDOMS TEAMS IN BIG EAST, THEN IM PRETTY SURE THAT BIG TEN IS AT LEAST TIED WITH THE BIG EAST

Okay, I think it is hard to argue bottoms of the conferences at times.
The best measuring stick right now may be number of teams in the tourney...However, I think the Big East, Big 12, and ACC could end up getting 6-7 teams in...
From there I think you look at possible seeding for the Tourney. With that in mind, I think the Big East gets the nod. I think Cuse, WV, Nova, Georgetown, and Pitt could all get 1-5 seeds....That is 5 teams with a 5 seed or higher. ACC only probably gets Duke and Wake in the top 5. Big 12 gets KU & K ST. in there, with Texas and Texas A&M, hovering....Although IMO Texas is spiraling and will continue to drop. The SEC does get UK, Vandy, and Tenn. in the top 5, but I think they only get around 4 teams in.
This is why I think it is hard to argue "toughest conference" each year. All conference games are "tough" and conference losses happen....

This year you can't really say who is the best overall conference. The big 12 is very strong. I think the Big 10 will have the most teams in the sweet 16. I think the big east is the best conference. I think there can be an argument that the ACC is the best from top to bottom.

The ACC is garbage this year outside of Duke and Maryland. Clemson, G-Tech and Wake are too inconsistent and can't win on the road. It's laughable that the ACC could be considered a better conference than the Big East, Big 10 or Big 12.

Isn't this pointless? Every year it's the same question?
Bottom line is there's so much disparity now in NCAAB that any team from a Mid-Major conference can win or be competitive against any big Conference team, especially at their home gym's. There is a reason why these big schools refuse to play on the road against them...they do not want to lose.
