AIK are one of my favorite teams to watch at the moment. They play a very attacking style, and it suits them well. They have, in my opinion, the best attack in the Swedish Allsvenskan. How that will translate to European competition remains to be seen, but I like their matchup against Linfield. I watched Linfield’s previous Europa League qualifiers against B36 Torshavn and was surprised by how effective Linfield’s attack was and how poor their defense was. Generally, with sides from Northern Ireland they are poor in attack but give absolutely everything defensively. Linfield are actually a pretty dangerous counter attacking side, but their defense is susceptible. AIK themselves are pretty poor defensively, but as stated, have a potent attack. Costa Rican Borges has returned from WC duty, which provides an added attacking element for AIK. Helpfully, AIK are not the type of side that will settle for a 0-0 draw here. They know that they can go a long way in qualifying by scoring at least two goals. Honestly, guys, watch this AIK attack. It is one of the best to come out of Sweden in recent years. I am fairly certain they will win this game, but the odds of 1.60 are a little below my comfort threshold. If you are okay with such odds, then I recommend taking it. To me, a great **bet is Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.80**

Guys, be careful with this one. I think a lot of people are going to recognize the name of Hapoel Tel Aviv and assume they are going to win against a side from Kazakhstan. I actually would prefer going the other way, if anything and taking Astana. Hapoel are in a bit of a bother here though. They are suffering from some financial issues and were not able to sign any important players. Their best player, Damari, is ill and many players were only able to fly out yesterday due to visa issues. Player for player, I would argue that Hapoel still have more quality. That being said, Astana have much more cohesion amongst them. It seems, however, that Hapoel really relish the big stage. Obviously, a Europa League qualifier is a bit of a bigger stage then a mundane domestic match. Hapoel’s playing style is to attack. They attack relentlessly because their defense is a bit of a nightmare. Helpfully, Astana are not a defensive side. They will try to attack and play good soccer. They don’t just sit back. They have recruited some good attacking players in Bressan (from BATE), Kurdov and Cicero. Then they have the creators in Canas and Kojasevic, so Astana should have a few chances to score themselves. To me, the value in this match is Over 2.5 Goals @ 2.23. Again, I would advise not to back Hapoel, and if anything to take Astana PK. I’m gonna stick with the over 2.5 goals, however.

Buducnost are one of those sides that look very comfortable on the ball and pleasing to the eye. They move the ball around well and create chances. What they don’t do, is finish. They are a very wasteful side, but they can get away with it against lesser teams because of the sheer quantity of chances they will create. Omonia Nicosia are a team that is quite experienced in continental soccer. They are very composed and comfortable on the ball. They have the same shortcomings as Buducnost in that they lack a proper poacher, but they should get by today as Buducnost are nothing special defensively. There is a bit of a worry as Omonia Nicosia got rid of some of their more expensive (read better) players due to some financial issues. They still brought in replacements, but they seem to be of a lesser quality. They are also having a bit of an issue with defenders and are going to employ a 3-5-2. I think that will serve them well in this game as their fullbacks should help create more chances against a Buducnost side that can be exposed down the flanks. Omonia Nicosia are not world beaters, but they are a determined side and I see value in taking them to win. I’m taking Omonia Nicosia to win @ 2.01

Trencin are one of the better Slovakian sides. They are extremely well organized and quite skilled. Additionally, they play a very fast style of soccer, keeping the ball on the ground with a fluid passing style. They recently brought in striker Kubik to supplement top scorer Malec. Kubik offers something different than Malec whom always seems to bumble the ball across the goal line. They have only strengthened their squad from last year when they were able to beat IFK Gothenburg. Importantly for Trencin’s style of play, this game is being played in Dubnica which is a great pitch. This will suit their quick style. I would like to take Trencin to win, but Vojvodina are a bit of an unknown since they turned over their side to youth in January of the league campaign. What they do have is some very talented players who turn up for the biggest games. Helpfully, Vojvodina are not a defensive side. They like to attack, but that leaves them exposed as well. When they turned over to youth, they decided to focus on winning the national cup and rested some players during the league matches, so I wouldn’t read too much into their performances there. To me, the goals market is appealing. I’m going to take Over 2.5 Goals @ 2.10

Atlantas were able to beat Differdange 03, the side from Luxembourg, in the last round, but I don’t think they will be so lucky here. Atlantas aren’t a poor side, but they aren’t that good either. I’d rate them as a middling Lithuanian outfit. Taking on Shakther Karagandy is a different beast altogether. They have European experience and are one of the giants of Kazakhstan soccer. They have two good attackers in Topcagic and Vicius which should be more than enough to beat Atlantas. The thing with Atlantas is that they seldom play as well as they should. By name, they aren’t a bad squad, but they don’t play up to their potential often. I have to side with the better team that is more experienced here. I’m taking Shakther to win @ 1.68

Here is an interesting game! Botev Plovdiv looked quite likely to win the Bulgarian domestic title towards the end of April. Then disaster struck. Their main sponsor, KTB Bank, pulled their sponsorship funds and now the club is in some serious financial difficulty. They have gone through quite the turnover in coaches, I think 3 since then. They are also under a wage restriction now, as opposed to when they had the sponsor and paid some of the highest wages in Bulgaria. There has been some infighting between the staff as well. There has been some rumors that many of their core players do not want to be registered for this match or European matches in general as they know this will decrease their likelihood of transfer to other clubs. Needless to say, the players want to leave. Some players have left on free transfers, some have ripped their contracts up, and many are rumored to be leaving. From their best starting lineup last year, they have lost 8 players. Now, St. Polten are not a great squad. They are from the 2nd division in Austria, the Erste Liga. That being said, they are a decent team going forwards and back, and will put in a full effort here. I have to side with the team that wants to play in this match. At minimum, Botev are being forced to play some inexperienced players. I’m going to be backing St. Polten + 1 @ 1.75

First things first, let’s not overreact to Tromso trouncing Estonian amateurs Tartu Santos in the previous round of qualifiers. Vikingur Gotu, from the Faroe Islands will be a lot tougher. Here’s the thing: sides from the Faroe Islands are not really good, they just have a huge advantage at home. They play on artificial turf, in swirling winds, on islands that most people don’t even know exist. This is why sides struggle playing in the Faroe Islands. This will not be an issue for Tromso as their home games are actually within the Arctic Circle themselves! Helpfully, they also play on artificial turf and face rough conditions often at home. They have good attackers in Moldskred and Andersen. They aren’t as good of a Tromso side as in years past, but they are still much better than Vikingur Gotu. With the home advantage being minimal at best, I like Tromso -1 here @ 1.99

Sorry, this one is going to be the shortest of the bunch. It’s getting late now and I’m sure my writing has quickly gone downhill. Hapoel Beer Sheva, beyond having a great name, are actually a pretty good side. They were able to finish second in their domestic league. As a result, they were in a position to strengthen their squad further during the transfer window. I’m excited to see how Melikson does after having spent the last two seasons playing in Ligue 1. I think Hapoel Beer Sheva are going to score at least a goal here, and I don’t know if RNK Split have it in them to get two. Additionally, for all the Israeli sides, it has been confirmed that the second legs will not be played in Israel due to the ongoing conflict. As a result, they really have no reason to sit back and wait to win at home. They may as well go out and try and get a valuable away goal. I’m going to take Hapoel Beer Sheva PK (Draw No Bet, 0.0) @ 1.97

FK Haugesund are a decent Tippeligaen side, and I’ll get more into them when I cover their domestic league. The truth of the matter is that they are a little out of their depths in this competition, and I think they are going to lose today as a result of it. FK Sarajevo are a much improved side from last year. They have been purchased by a new owner whom has injected a couple million Euros into the transfer budget. As a result, they were able to purchase some great players and really strengthen their side. In particular, Okic, Bilbija and Velkoski are dynamic attackers. I don’t want to list players, but they really have improved their squad. At these odds I can’t pass it up. FK Sarajevo to win @ 1.77

Thanks PeterBlack and zamigo6. Yes, good start with Astana Over 2.5. I was worried after that red card to Hapoel, but two great strikes from Astana got it done.
