I forecast now based on experience. When you've seen enough lines it becomes pretty obvious. Of course the biggest factor is the original game line and the current score. There is probably a general chart just based on that by sport. Then there are numerous other factors from there.

they also factor in if brady, manning, or brees is running up the score...
time per play averages and weather.
tonights game was like 21, it went over very easily, based on my calc i picked the over, just because i knew carolina couldnt stop the run and it was 14 to 15 at the half, so if 29 pts in first half, they could easily muscle out 22 and 3 scores could be a push.
in basketball i tend to like the over as well because of OT and free throws down the stretch.
its so tricky in bball... some games dance around the number pissing you off. u really have to know how a team plays. for instance the PHO suns can score 35-40 pts in a quarter any given night and they're very strong 2nd half team (from what i recall the prev 3 years)

Max limits are usually low & John Q Public has no idea it's even an option so I believe handle is minimal in the grand scheme of things. It's fun in Vegas to speculate at the board about possible halftime #s they might post and watch juice move line like active stock market.
