NMSU..........?
NOPE
usually bad idea to overreact to injuries......but
08/25/16 QB Tyler Matthews Personal as left team
08/24/16 QB Tyler Rogers Personal probable
08/17/16 LB Derek Ibekwe Hernia expected to miss
*best defensive player
08/17/16 RB Larry Rose III Hernia "?"
*should play but << 100%
Well, I actually think you may be overreacting a bit here. Tyler Matthews was a great pick-up coach Doug Martin, but he has never actually played a down for the Aggies, and now it appears he never will. I think the reason left the team is that Tyler Rogers beat him out. Nevertheless, it's hard to miss something you never had.
I think NMSU is actually pretty secure at the QB position as they have three capable and experienced guys. I projected Rogers to be the starter, but I'm comfortable with either Nick Jeanty or Conner Cramer. I guess I just don't think there is enough separation among them to really impact my opinion on this game. In fact I'm not sure that Cramer isn't the best of the lot. He is just not as familiar with the offense as Rogers and Jeanty. Cramer is a JUCO transfer who was 22 of 28 passing for 173 yards in the spring game, and lead the Aggies to their only two scoring drives of the game. It was just a spring practice game, but Cramer was the best QB NMSU had on that day.
Larry Rose, III may be the best skill player in the Sun Belt Conference, so not having him would be HUGE!!! I'm watching his injury closely, but right now it looks like he'll probably be ready to go against UTEP.
Ibekwe is also a significant injury for a struggling be defense who is struggling to be a competent unit, but his injury does not significantly affect my opinion on the game.
The bottom line for me here is that if Larry Rose plays, and I think he will, I like for the Aggies to give UTEP a very tough game, if not win outright.

Another thing I really like about the Aggies is the addition of defensive coordinator Frank Spaziani. I think we'll definitely see him improve what was a woeful defensive unit in 2015.
