I agree, something has to give... Best defense or best QB... We will see.. I will take our front seven in this one though, hence my bet...
Whichever team wins this game will have earned it. And whoever that is, can truly say they beat the best. If Alabama gets it done by 1 or by 21, they will have then beat the best team with the best QB this year. If Clemson wins it, they beat the most overall solid, talented team they have played this year in route to 5 wins over teams with 10+ wins that were ranked in the top 10 at some point in 2015.
But onto less talk about conference and less talk about other games played, and pedestrian SEC QB play. For Clemson to beat Alabama I feel like 3 things have to happen and it covers all 3 facets of the game: (without speaking the obvious about turnovers, etc)
1. Least talked about facet of a game....
The Clemson special teams have to be solid, they have gotten better, but they can not afford any lapses at ANY point, in ANY part of the game. Kick off coverages have gotten much better, gotta stay crisp here. The kick off returns will be best for Clemson if Alabama will just kick it in the end zone anytime they kick off. Clemson's returns are putrid consistently. Hopefully punt returns stay consistent. Cyrus Jones is dangerous, lethal.
2. D-Line penetration....
On defense, Clemson's D-Line MUST get penetration on run plays. They must get Henry running sideways as much as possible.
This is a big question for me as well... I could either see Clemson having no success at stopping the run at all and Henry getting 4/5/6 yard carries, or it being a lot like the Florida game where he doesn't start getting the big ones until late in the third. Honestly, I was seeing the Oklahoma backs breaking off some big runs before they were injured, and keep in mind that our offensive line goes up against our defensive front every day in practice...
3. Running on the edge....
Offensively Clemson is not gonna just run up the middle consistently, but i don't think that will be the game plan anyways. Alabama has a propensity to get beat on the edges.
Reggie Ragland, 1st rounder, defensive player of the year runner up, and All American, is the reason I am not worried about the edges... He is SO fast and hits so hard. Reuben Foster is like a homing missile as well on the edges and is just as fast and hits just as hard, and don't forget about out DE's who are among the nations best at getting pressure. I do not see this being an issue...
Clemson must play a near prefect game.
I agree totally, and I gave Clemson 17 points in this game, which is more than I have given any team... If any team is capable of driving down the field on our defense it is Clemson, and if this game is close it is going to be in the first half.

Clemson's O-line ain't too shabby, and rotate depth pretty good. This should be their toughest task to date.
Clemson's D-line will be the best Alabama has played this year. They have went against a couple of stout O-lines(ND, FSU) and fared pretty well. OU O-line was overmatched bad last week so I don't even use that. If the Clemson D-line can not do to Alabama's running game what Michigan State did, then they have no reason leaving for Arizona tomorrow. I would be shocked and PO'd at the same time. Alabama had to do their damage in the air, Clemson wants them to try that again. Much like Mixon/Perine of Oklahoma, FSU's Dalvin Cook scorched Clemson in the 1st qtr. Venables made his adjustments and the rest of the game was a lot different.
Even though Clemson will be the best offense Alabama faces, this is gonna be tough because of the athleticism and speed Saban has gotten in the program in the past 3 years to help his deficiencies against spread teams. Clemson most resembles Ohio State as not a simple spread team but more of a power spread team. I would imagine you would see a lot of quick WR screen plays to the outside and hook and curl throws to the inside guys including the TE's. They want Alabama's defense running sideways as they want Henry running sideways. Should that be successful, that will back off Bama's pressure and set up double move plays to Peake, Renfrow, and Scott, etc. Look for Scott to be a key target, Watson tends to favor him. This could change based on match ups obviously.
Reggie Ragland may be the only player in the nation that could take on Derrick Henry steaming downhill and stop him. If Derrick Henry is able to get his shoulders squared up and running downhill, he is a beast. If Clemson restricts him from doing that, he is an average running back. All the praise and glory for that will be on Alabama's o-line, which I think consistently does not get the credit they deserve for these RB's they have been spitting out. And it shows at the next level when things are often equal.
If Clemson is limited to 17 points, they could still cover this game. I just don't see any scenario where Alabama scores 30+ offensive points. If Alabama scores other ways, well I can't cap that, but i don't see Clemson's defense getting bullied by a less dynamic Alabama offense. Maybe this turns into a Ohio State vs Alabama 2014 all over again, but without having the fortunes of looking into the future, I really see the winning team with 28 points tops. This should be a possession type game with the running games and the quick WR screens, and the clock running a lot.
Alabama does not like to be challenged. They don't want the pressure of having to play a 4th qtr game. I understand how they weathered the storm at home against Tennessee, but Tennessee had no clue how to close out a game. They showed that time and time again this year. I don't mean to bring up another game other than to say, Clemson wants to put all the pressure on Alabama. Alabama is the team that the world is on, they are the team that is suppose to be there, they are the team that is suppose to be the bully on the block. Clemson is the underdog, having fun, enjoying the ride, overachieving according to most, and just letting it fly. The intangibles along with the disparity in QB play may just make this a lot closer then the folks in Tuscaloosa want it to be.
PS: I got two extra tickets to the game if someone is looking for them. Got 10, only need 8. Commemorative tickets in hand. Should be a good one! My bad if it's illegal to post this here.

Not sure what you are talking about, have you seen their depth chart? Their second string are all freshmen and they are inexperienced at best. They are no match for the Alabama front leading the nation in sacks... They will be in the backfield the entire game.

LSU, Arkansas, Wisconsin, and MSU all have better defensive fronts... Ranking wise for rushing defense that is... And that is something I noticed, Clemson gives up a lot of big plays. I saw Oklahoma break off some big runs early. I call that missed assignments, and you can't do that against Derrick Henry.

Well you said it about RR... I again think he is the reason that Clemson will not have success on the edges. I can't remember a play this season that went to the edges, where I didn't see him in on the tackle, or destroying someone.

17 is being generous honestly... But I am telling you that Derrick Henry will have success running, opening up play action for Coker and Ridley and Stewart.
Good arguments today, good points made for both of us.. May the best team win... BOL on your bets in this game.. .

I saw an interview with the clemson's head coach and he was talking in the line of being scared of the bama defense. Something like... they are a great great team with exaggeration.
saban built that defense with good recruits and he did not do it at bama. Where was he at before bama again? yeah there
google for the prints of such interview. I just saw it a couple days ago.
I played flag football at these city leagues. There is this team just like bama. Always goes to the championship games and wins with undefeated record which is scary. We are talking about 20+ teams who can not compete with this one team here. It is like they are written a legacy and so with that in mind, it is hard to slay the giant but it all depends on if bama choke and gives the game away. fixing perhaps?
I don't know but I'm putting my money to see bama get killed. I'm playing bama laying the points. If clemson can beat bama, I'm not even crying over the loss because either my luck is not there or that I payed to see it happen. If not then stats and figures stacks up for another bama legacy as the best college football team of this era.
If clemson wins SU, I'm taking carolina nfl all the way. They both have something in common. Both are sleepers in trying to slay them giants.

Tappy I dont need to look at any depth chart, I follow the game farely well, in the stadiums. If Alabama is in the backfield all night, that ain't good for Clemson, unless of course the ball is already past them. I have to think that after 14 games, Clemson's hogs will be prepared. Talk about depth, hell the starting LT is a true freshman...but 14 games later, he ain't too inexperienced. They rotate 7 deep pretty well, hopefully those FR and SO don't get too overwhelmed by those big bad Bama boys.
May wanna go watch some slow mo cut ups (film) of those defensive fronts you talked about. LSU is solid, but less at DT than they have been in the past. The other three are so far less athletic than Clemson it's not really a comparison. All this takes is watching film, this is a fact, not an opinion and this is something that I choose not to debate any farther because it's merely me talking facts and you assuming I'm wrong without investigating and seeing for yourself. MSU D-Line is made for run stuffing, they are not athletic enough to shed blocks of top notch o-lineman on a balanced offense. Just because they stuffed Henry in the Cotton bowl does not make them great, Arky did the same thing, there is a solid blueprint to derail Henry. What it means is they sold out to stop the run and got CREAMED on the back end. The hardest position to recruit in college football is DT. They are so rare and such a hot commodity. Most programs are converting recruited DE's and such to DT's just because there aren't a lot of TRUE DT's to get. Bama has been getting them and Clemson is starting to get their share, more than most recently.
I'm not saying Clemson is gonna bounce outside every other play for 8, 12, 20 yards consistently. I'm just saying watching over the course of the season, ESPECIALLY that Ole Miss game, the edge is there to exploit. Coaches formulate game plans based on previous game film. Not based on names or potential of their opponents.
Hey I know your telling me buddy. Your telling me an awful lot. So much that I'm not sure Clemson should be able to crack the 50 yardline. But I'm just factually stating that Derrick Henry can't do nothing sideline to sideline, he is not that kind of back. The rest I have stated enough already.
One thing for sure, Alabama is built from inside out. And that's how you win championships is to be built that way. The team that controls LOS usually wins the game. This one is gonna be tough for Clemson, but they have some good experience going up against some really talented offensive and defensive lines and held up well. Clemson will have to rely more on their QB offensively, and fortunately he is good enough to be able to. And again, for Clemson's defense, they will likely plan to hopefully make this a game of QB's.
And why are you teasing this game? After all you have told me, your teasing it?
Cooler, all is good in the hood, you ain't no dummy. I just like to get these cheering threads focused more on the real life, factual, pros and cons of the game at hand. Strengths vs weaknesses and such. Although I've been told Alabama has no weaknesses and Clemson has no strengths. Lucky for this football fan, they actually play the game on the field. Providing the lights ain't not bright, those underdogs, undersized, under strength, and under starred in orange will come to play. Ain't no pressure in them.

So, I've heard tv ratings to offset some "unsuccessful" bowl games and the refs helping to achieve this and a hunch that weird things will happen that we cannot explain.
Sounds like a solid capping process that all should adopt.
Regardless of your reasons, good luck on your play.

I know the Sec have been the best this year and tell myslf many i f times not to bet against them. But I am this gut feeling that this last game will be a different outcome. Vegas never lose and whatever y'all find and cap your hardest

I just seen where EsecPN reported Saban had Chip Kelly down this week for a visit. Sayyyy whaaaaat...
He has Kirby, Pruitt, himself and Kiffin to help decipher this offense Clemson is going to throw at him. Is he that damn concerned with the all time greatest defense that he has?
If he ain't got it by now, a couple days with ol' Chipper ain't gonna cut it.
I know the Alabama staff visited with Tom Herman in the offseason. That would be more beneficial than having Chips help.

This reeks of insecurity.
Rather than insecurity, it could be a sign that Saban is taking this game very seriously. That would be a very bad sign for Clemson. My prediction is that Alabama wins by around 17 points. OSU and Alabama are physically at a different level compared to the rest of the college teams.

Jeremy Pruitt has been preparing for Clemson for a month... If Kelly did anything he just came in and put some fine tuning on an already solid game plan.
