I was beginning to think today would never get here. I love this time of year. Looking forward to a great college football season...both as a fan and a recreational "investor". Hopefully my alma mater, NC State, can come through with a big year and get to a good bowl game. I guess we will see how it starts with Friday's game with Tennessee.
This is only recreational so the value of a unit for me is very minimal and many would even wonder what the point in betting those amounts would be, but for me its fun and hopefully a little beer money for bowl game parties and the end of the year. So, on to Thursday's opening games.....
Thursday, August 30 {all locked in on 8/28}
S.Carolina (-7) for 1 unit--While I do think Vandy has a good young coach and are making some strides in the right direction, I do not believe they have the legs to completely contain the Gamecocks. Lattimore will be making his return and will be looking for a big year after missing som much time last year. Connor Shaw should continue the improvement that he was showing over the last 4-5 games last year. I don't believe this will be a blow out, as it never is, but South Carolina should be 10 points better.
UCLA (-15.5) for 1 unit--I could be completely off here, but it's Rice. It's not a good Rice team. I know it in Houston and not L.A., but even on the road, UCLA should have the bigs, the athletes, and the speed to easily handle this game by 3 td's. My biggest concern I guess is that I have thought this about UCLA before and been sorely disappointed, but I am going to the well again.
Minnesota (-8.5) for 1 unit--Again, a lot of what I stated above works for me in this matchup. Marqueis Gray should a big difference maker in this game. UNLV is bad (4-21 last 2Y) and return only 5 starters on a defense that wasn't very good against the run (99th). Of course, maybe thats a good thing for the Rebels....ha ha.
Wash St. @ BYU over 61.5 for 1 unit--Mike Leach does two things. Throw a lot and score a lot. With a pretty decent QB and a very talented WR...those two things look pretty promising. On the other side, Sr. Riley Nelson and the 6 other returning offensive starters should be able to move down the field pretty easily. I'm looking at a 38-35 type game here.
Good luck to everyone whatever you play. We are all looking to take a little from the books. Thats it for me today. All opinions are welcome.

SC -7 for 1 unit Last night certainly didn't go as I had thought or hoped. I was feeling pretty good with the SC/Vandy game until Connor Shaw went down. Vandy seized the momentum and did a great job stimying any attempt SC made at moving the ball. Have to give mad props to Franklin and the job he is doing with the Commadores.
WSU/BYU ov61.5 for 1 unit BYU did their part in scoring, but unfortunately for me they also did their part in stuffing the Wazzou attack
Minn -8.5 for 1 unit Really, how do you outgain a team by 200, win the turnover battle, and win the time of possession and have to go to 3 OTs to win? Why do you not run it down the throat of a lesser team when the starting RB was averaging 6.2 yards a carry? Oh yes, its Minnesota. And I overlooked that and bet on the them anyway. Completely on me for this one.
UCLA -15.5 for 1 unit UCLA was the one bight for me last night. I will say I was a bit worried though when the 19 point lead was erased in the first half, but they pulled it out in the second and kept me from an ugly first night goose-egg.
Oh well, last night is water under the bridge. Looking at tonights matchups and will be posting them shortly.

NCSU/Tenn ov52.5 for 1 unit--I really want to be a homer and take NC State for the win, but I am going to try to resist that urge. I do however believe that both teams will be able to score on the other. I think that with 2 big time QB's out there, they will find ways to move the ball and put it in the endzone. Just hoping State does in a little more than Tennessee.
Boise St./Michigan St ov45.5 for 1 unit--I know BSU is breaking in a new QB, but the system that Peterson has in place at Boise lends me to believe that the dropoff won't be monumental. Boise tends to rise to the occasion. I think MSU wins but Boise keeps it close meaning MSU has to score.
Stanford -24.5 and ov52.5 for 1 unit each--Even without Luck, I think Stanford has the players to handle SJSU. And if the Spartans can score some, I think the over will easily be met.
