#3 Posted: 8/11/2012 2:55:07 PM Boise State is holding a closed scrimmage today. All 4 QBs should play.
Here's my prediction:
Joe Southwick is named starting QB and has a good season, but not good enough for All-MWC honors.
Grant Hedrick is used as a situational QB in a few plays per game (e.g. short yardage, red zone, defense is weak against dual threat QB, etc.)
Jimmy Laughrea becomes the understudy and develops for the future.
Nick Patti transfers.

#6 Posted: 8/19/2012 3:25:17 PM UPDATE: BOISE STATE
HAS A SERIOUS QUARTERBACK PROBLEM
Statistics from Saturday’s (8/18/2012) Scrimmage:
PLAYER [COMP-ATT-INT] [COMP %] [YDS] [TD]
Joe Southwick [16-24-1] [.667] [141] [1]
Grant Hedrick [6-16-3] [.375] [28] [0]
Nick Patti [1-10-1] [.100] [40] [0]
Jimmy Laughrea [1-4-1] [.250] [75] [1]
None of the quarterbacks had any significant rushing
yards. Hedrick is considered a Dual-Threat QB, but had zero rushing
yards on 1 rushing attempt. |

#7 Posted: 8/19/2012 3:53:20 PM MWC - what is your perspective on week 1 Boise v Mich St...both have inexperienced QB's, but Mich St has a shutdown best in Big 10 D...Do you think Mich St covers -7 v.Boise...In the past Boise has defeated better teams with innovative scheme, then with Oregon and UGA the last few years with scheme and developed talent...Boise does not recruit many elite players, but peterson is a great coach and specific guys flourish in that system...even last year's Boise D was not exactly shut down...now they have 9 new starters, some of which have playing experience, Harper coming back from injury plus issues at QB. At least Mich st is solidly behind Maxwell as he builds a rapport with his WR's...in addition, Mich St has a descent returning running game...this game is at night at E Lansing, against a rocking and rabid Mich St homefield crowd and Spartan team with reasonable BCS NC aspirations...My mind and my gut tells me that this game won't be close, despite Boise's proven systems and Peterson's prolific coaching...in addition, I think Deantonio is a NCAA D1 top 10 coach...he will have his troops prepared and motivated...my perspective...Boise hangs close for 1.5 quarters, then Mich St pulls away and wins by DD...I will appreciate yours et al perspecdtive on this game...

#8 Posted: 8/19/2012 4:20:47 PM I have not yet analyzed Michigan State. I plan to write a comprehensive analysis of Boise State at Michigan State. I think Boise State is very overrated. |

#9 Posted: 8/19/2012 4:48:12 PM Boise teams in the past had returning depth. They have 5 total returning starters, this is NOT the Boise of years past |

#16 Posted: 8/20/2012 4:51:19 PM Another Boise State QB Update:
Petersen may not publicly announce the starting QB until the season opener.
IMHO, at this point, it is a good move not to publicly announce the starting QB because MSU must prepare for four possible starting QBs and one of them is a dual-threat QB, which requires different preparation. NCAA rules strictly limit practice time, so MSU cannot add extra practice time to prepare for each possible starting QB.

#19 Posted: 8/21/2012 12:17:28 PM I remember all the talk on here from all the top capppers how Georgia was going to spank Boise St last year in Georgia! They eneded up handling Georgia! I know that Boise St is not what they used to be but this is the only team I'll lay money on pure heart! |
