Been kinda hott here lately, 8-1-1 ATS my last 10 plays, so tread lightly tailing me cause we know all good things come to an end sooner or later lol. Here’s what I’ve got for Thursday nights game between North Carolina State and Cincinnati. Both teams are 2-1 on the year to this point but I do feel that NC States schedule has been the easier of the two up until now. They’ve won games over South Alabama and Liberty and only got beat by a TD against Wake Forest. Their QB, Mike Glennon has thrown for 7 TD’s so far against only one pick and 745 yards! Now, Cincy has not been any slouch either as they have totaled over 130 points in their two wins this season. And like NC State, their blowouts have come against inferior teams as well over Akron and Austin Peay. Their loss came by way of Tennessee and it was a blowout type game where they lost by 22 points. I do like, somewhat, their defense a little lol. They did return 2 interceptions for TD’s and got another TD off of a fumble return their last game. And, even despite who they’ve played, are averaging over 51 points per game!
Things I like about the Wolfpack are that they are good at spreading the ball around to a lot of different receivers so no matter who is on the field for them, you can’t just key in on that one playmaker. Their QB is a fairly smart and accurate throwing ball player also. Plus, their defense is OK and not the worst thing I’ve seen in college football this year by any means. Things I don’t like are that they have trouble holding on to the ball at times by fumbling, their offensive line isn’t the stoutest thing in the world and they can be pushed around some and their rushing attack is just average so I don’t expect them to fool a whole lot of people with play action as I think they will be looking to pass the majority of the time here.
For Cincinnati, here are a few things I like and dislike about them and their performances thus far. Their QB, Zach Collaros is pretty efficient with the ball and his decision making. They too have several different weapons on the offensive side of the ball as they used 9 or 10 different backs in their win over the Zips. They may actually try more rushing in this game than the Wolfpack which may help to keep this game closer than a lot of people think. They have a pretty descent defense too and they’ve already forced a bunch of turnovers on the year already. But, they will give up yardage and I think NC State will be able to move the ball on them. Cincinnati will be playing here with revenge on their minds from last years defeat by the Wolfpack so we also have to keep that in mind.
In closing, I say this. Both teams can score on offense as well as defense if we see some turnover as I do expect to see here. So there will be points put up on the scoreboard in this game. I do not think we’ve seen the best yet out of this Wolfpack defense as they are still mostly intact from a squad that only averaged allowing 21 points per game last year. This will be a good spot for them to step it up and prove they’ve still got it. NC State on average so far has given up only slightly over 3 yards per carry and just over 100 rushing yards per game. They’ve only given up an average of 22 points per game on 376 total yards of offense per game. The Bearcats have given up 385 yards per game on average up till now to a pretty weak schedule. Tennessee dusted them by passing for over 400 yards in that game alone and they wont be let off the hook in this one either as the Wolfpack will be tossing it around all night long. I give a very slight edge to NC States defense here as well. But, they are down 3 defensive starters. Manning, Sweezy and Byrd are all out so this may be a slight concern although Mannings replacement does have some experience and can hole his own. The other two were already out and they are used to playing without them now. NC State is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games as a dog between 3½ and 10 points and are 9-1 ATS in their past 10 Thursday games! I think this game comes down to who may have the ball last and I think there will be a lot of points put up as neither team is known for their defense. With that being said I recommend playing this. GL to us!

Cinci -7 or 7.5 (.5U): Depends on where your book is..i have locked in at -7 id love to have it at 6.5 to avoid a push. Bottom line in this game will how the QB play on both side of the ball will be. Callaos will have to pick his spots carefully to avoid the TO and i see them doing it with a heavy work load on Pead who has looked great hitting those gaps. That should open up Callos and Woods to hit up down the field. NC State sports a new look with Glennon and new WR corp. Don't think they can set up play action to keep quick CB of Cinci off an inexperienced NC state WR corp. NC satte also will be playing w/o #3 Tackler in Manning (ILB) and #4 (DL) Sweezy is already out for the year and #1 Rusher from LY Greene still out with foot injury. Weather looking foggy and wet in Cinci for this one...Cinci 28 NC State 17
