Pine tar is for grip..... And comparing a surgery that the player did not want to happen and steroids that are illegal is just a dumb statement by you.

Both Steroids and TJ are used for the same reason... either a player realizes they cannot make it to the big leagues unless they do steroids or they do the surgery. In other cases steroids/TJ surgery is used by a veteran big league player to try to get to elite level.
They are BOTH enhancements to the "natural" body to attain a higher performance level.

Pitcher can get plenty of grip with rosin, pine tar on bats probably save live as far as the fans are concerned, ever see Josh Hamilton chunk a bat into the stands lol. I think it was a good call to pull Pineda, they let him slide with it the first time after he lied about what it was, then did it again knowing it's not permitted, just like PEDs, those are the rules. Tommy John Surgery is nothing like taking PEDs, not even close that was a dumb analogy. On another note I feel like A-Rod should be kicked from baseball, he has absolutely no respect for the rules of the game, he thinks the world revolves around him, I used to respect him as a great player but he has complete disregard for the ethics of the game and sets a bad example or the yanks and baseball as a whole. He handled the situation great the first time, wish Braun would have followed the same course of action for his little boo boo, shouldn't have lied, A-Rod on the other hand is out of control. I say kick him for good, ever heard of Pete Rose? ;-)

I'm not going to defend ARod... but I will disagree agout Pete Rose. He bet on HIS TEAM ONLY. I want a manager that wants to bet his own cash on HIS TEAM to win.
His being banned from baseball is a travesty of justice... it's more about the commish's ego than what is good for the game.
You are in the minority on this, and polls back me up here.

I will chime in on the Pete Rose comment. His play, and numbers as a player 100% deserve a HOF induction. No doubt. As for betting on his team only, that's tricky. Did he bet on his team for the same amount every game, no matter what? Or did he go all out trying to win ONE game for his team because he bet on them, and disregard how it might impact his team down the road? Would he knowingly not bet them on certain nights when he might know he was going to sit a key player, or knew his bullpen was taxed and then perhaps intentionally saved better players for another night, when he did bet them? There are so many variables at play, and it's certainly not as simple as saying he only bet on his team, so it's OK.
As for his lifetime ban, sure it probably has something to do with ego and MLB has made an example of him for sure. But he hasn't done himself any favors since then either, to make amends. Regardless, HOF or not, you can't take anything away from his career.

I seriously doubt that somebody had a gun to your head to make you get TJ surgury
It was your choice... because you wanted to either continue to perform at a high level, or you wanted to improve your performance level. Either way it was your choice.

That is what Pete has maintained... and from what I have heard nobody suspects he bet on any team other than the Reds. Only Pete and his bookie would know for sure.

Just for the record I like Pete Rose, he was a phenomenal player and manager maybe the ego destroyed him ("pride before the fall") He's not the only one guilty for what he did either just the only one that got caught and MLB made an example of him for it. They should do the same for A-Rod. As for Braun I like the guy he's handled the situation well and I feel he'll become a better player for it, Milwaukee is doing well this year because they have a very good bond, IMO, they remind me of the team the Rangers had when they went to the World Series 2 yrs in a row

Well yea but I didn't do it as "performance enhancing" I did it so I can keep playing the game I love.
Your plain ignorant..and I am done in this thread so come back with whatever you like, your last comment told me all I needed to know....
What a freaking crybaby whaaa whaaa
I point out that it was your CHOICE to get TJ surgery and you get angry lol. I guess you would prefer to be revered as a "victim" of a horrific injury and you had no choice at all?

Why are aluminum bats illegal but wooden bats aren't?
"Them's the rules!"
Yes them's the rules... the truth is that AL bats kill baseball players.
What continues to shock me is that AL bats are not illegal at every level of the game.
Check that, I know damn well why they are not banned in every level... the Easton and their competitors have a very effective lobby to keep their profitable industry going.
I just wish the family of some victim of an AL bat tragedy would sue the makers for 100's of millions. Maybe that might get their attention. The clear evidence is out there clearly stating that AL bats kill players.

they use aluminum in college because their skills aren't as polished as professionals...but I get the point being it not being safe even in little league.

agree with u on EVERYTHING EXCEPT TOMMY JOHN SURGERY...WHO WANTS 2 TEAR F ING LIGAMENT...CMON...IM A HUMAN ROBOT WITH INJURIES DONT INSULT..INJURIES
I'm going to back off on the TJ surgery... I read up some more and it appears that it is NOT an enhancing procedure... I read in the past that it was. I suppose it could be debated.
BUT I will correlate TJ surgery to maybe not roids but rather to Human Growth Hormone. Injured players should be able to use HGH to recover from career injuries, but they are not allowed. But they are allowed to repair their arm surgically... I don't see the difference in that case.
