With the Detroit game cancelled, I've decided to roll with another game that's caught my eye. The Royals are looking for their first road win of the season, going up against the lowly Astros who send the brutally struggling Harrel to the mound. This guy's struggles date back to last season (6-17, 5.86 ERA), into spring training (1-2, 7.80 ERA), and into his first two starts (0-2, 11.05 ERA).
The Royals have had their share of struggles at the plate but facing Harrel and the Astros may be exactly what they need to turn things around. They counter with Ventura, their rookie right-hander, who was flawless in his first start of the season against the Rays. He pitched 6 scoreless innings of 2-hit ball, striking out 6 and walking none. He's also had a decent spring, going 1-2 and posting a 2.70 ERA.
I feel like the Royals are a much better team than their record suggests. They lost 4 games by a total of 4 runs so their 4-7 record can easily be 6-5. I think they're gonna look to pressure early and crack Harrel in the first 5. I look for Ventura to have a solid outing, in hopes of getting his first win of the season and prove that he belongs in the starting rotation. I've decided to make this a first 5 play to factor out the bullpens and coincide with my confidence in the clear starting pitching edge.
