#1 Posted: 10/1/2012 10:19:40 PM For anyone to think that Miggy is not the MVP of the league and Mike Trout is is absolutely laughable. You would have to be one of the biggest idiots in the history of the world for you to think that. Give me one realistic argument that he isn't......please. All these talking heads who have Trout winning and saying he is a more complete player than Cabby is by far one of the most asinine things I have ever heard. Take nothing away from Trout, but he is no where near Cabrera level. Not the same planet or universe for that matter.
BY THE WAY HE IS GOING TO WIN THE TRIPLE CROWN.

#4 Posted: 10/1/2012 11:22:51 PM It's laughable that people think Cabrera should win it over Trout.
I don't care if he wins the Triple Crown... the Triple Crown doesn't take into account walks, it doesn't differentiate doubles or triples from singles, it doesn't take into account skill on the basepaths, and most of all it doesn't factor in defense (of which Trout is upper-echolon while Cabrera is simply below-average).
Taking EVERYTHING into account (not just hitting), it's clear Trout has been the better player and more valuable to his team.
Based on the slash line of AVG/OBP/SLG, statistically speaking, this is Cabrera's WORST year between from 2010 - 2012
2010: .328/.422/.620 (1.042 OPS)
2011: .344/.448/.586 (1.033 OPS)
2012: .325/.390/.601 (.991 OPS)
If Cabrera didn't win the MVP those years, why should he win it this year? Just because he might win the "Triple Crown" because it just so happened nobody has hit more than 45 HR's or has an average above .325? |

#5 Posted: 10/1/2012 11:45:43 PM Cabrera should win the MVP if he gets the Triple Crown, no doubter. And I'm from Los Angeles and love Trout. Trout contributes in all facets of the game, offensively and defensively. He's the jumpstarter for that Angels offense. His numbers are ridiculous as well for a 2nd year 21 year old. You have to tell me.320 avg, 30 homers, 120+ runs, 80 rbi and 40+ SB isn't absurd.

#6 Posted: 10/1/2012 11:52:27 PM Cabrera has over 600 AB's and has 97 K's
Trout has 131 in 80 less AB's
Cabrera does this EVERY YEAR
Trout is in his first year. If he is that good he'll do it EVERY YEAR like Cabrera DOES. W.A.R., BB, SB..... whatever
If the game is on the line who you got? Cabrera or Trout?
Not taking anything away from Trout he's been a spark plug for the Angels, but Miguel is this straight up garbage, friggin money

Trout's definately jump started them and has taken advantage of his situation but this is what Cabrera does. If Trout was that good why wasn't he on the opening day roster. It's a great debate but pretty one-sided IMO |

#11 Posted: 10/1/2012 11:59:22 PM Trout will win a few MVPs in his career. He didn't even START playing until May (missing the 1st month). He doesn't need the MVP this year. |

Once in a generation player. I feel lucky to watch him every night. And an event like this is unbelievable. Now days starting pitchers don't last like they used too. He has to see different pitchers night after night for mostly the first time and it doesn't matter. Special player and so humble. He could care less if he wins the triple crown or the MVP, but we do for him. |

#15 Posted: 10/2/2012 2:01:14 AM First of all, I'm a huge Tigers fan living in Orange County and I get to hear both sides of the argument frequently. It isn't "hands down" in either players favor.
There are valid arguments for both players. I personally would give it to Trout and hope it motivates Miggy. I don't think Cabrera gets enough credit for moving to 3rd base this year. However he did have Prince batting behind him and AJax helped his RBI total. Trout is spectacular in the outfield. However, he did play a month less than Cabrera and who knows what kind of effect that had on his numbers.
It would be hard to not give it to Cabrera should he hold on to the triple crown, but I wouldn't at all be upset if Trout won it.
One thing you guys need to stop doing though, is talking about previous seasons when talking about THIS YEARS MVP. This isn't a 3 year award. What Cabrera did last year or the year before, or even his numbers compared to the rest of the league's number from previous years should be irrelevant. It's all about what they did this season.

no question cabrera is the guy, tigers winning AL Central (even tho, yes, it's a horsebleep division) is the clincher IMO...
gr8t yr for trout but how do you justify being league MVP on a 3rd-place team?...
i kno i know, angels won more games and IF angels and tigers switched divisions blah blah blah, well guess what, let's try a novel concept, let's judge it on the reality of the situation...
speaking of reality, the biggest injustice in history in this category HAS to be andre dawson winning this award in '87 while a member of the 6th-place cubs...jack clark of the 1st-place cardinals in 200+ FEWER ABs drove in just 31 fewer runs while walking 104 more times.. clark's OBP that yr was .460, dawson's .328..dawson had 58 more hits, scored 3 fewer runs...dawson struck out 3 times as much as he walked, clark had a TOTAL of 3 more Ks than BBs...
total travesty...
end of story |

#17 Posted: 10/2/2012 10:00:03 AM Idiots, neither one is "laughable" over the other. They have both had amazing years. Your acting like one is way better than the other. I give it to Cabrera mainly cuz the tigers are in although angels do have better record. Just got off to a slower start (without trout) |

#18 Posted: 10/2/2012 12:41:56 PM I am pulling for Cabrera. I think its a doen deal to win the MVP but more , I want to see a triple crown winner. even tho he is 1 HR over Josh, it will be a tight finish.
I remember Cabrera while at marlins, once he was being intentionally walked and he just reached out and slapped a ball for a basehit. pretty cool |

And then when he woke up they started to play better |

I'm with you man! It has been like 45 years since the last person won it, and to see Miggy have a shot at it is awesome! Might be a long long time before we see another player do what he's done at the plate this year. Trout has been great, but if he can do what he's done this year with consistency, he will earn a MVP down the road....but sorry, this year it goes to Miguel Cabrera!
