The outfielder on the local high school girls softball team has a stronger arm than Johnny Damon.
Watching him throw the ball from the outfield is laughable and pathetic. No Hall of Fame for Johnny.
Since when does the hall of fame require gold gloves? Mussina has 7 GGs and may not get into the HOF.
The problem with Damon getting those home runs is that the Yanks may not keep him. Sure he's putting on a great season in his contract year and has the perfect swing for that ballpark but he is old and he'll want a 2-3 year contract which i'm not sure the Yanks would want to give him. I mean they still want AJax to come up next season and play every day. They have a tough decision to make. I would keep Damon because of his productivity but it's really tough to say.

VALUE- Cmon man his arm will keep him out? He plays a pretty good left field
1winbets- I agree not now not yet. Im a yankees fan and wanted him out but this new stadium is just SWEET for his SWING.
The whole point about this thread was knowing how ridiculous it sounded...Johnny Damon HOF....but his numbers are good 3 more solid years like this year and he has a real chance.
Ahhh, another Yankee hall of famer

Plus she doesn't date Covers posters anyways.

Of course you're from NY. Johnny Damon has ZERO chance of making the Hall of Fame. He's made the All-Star game TWICE in his career, meaning he was never really dominate. Yes, he has all those steals, but he's in the top 10 or 5 every year in caught stealing.
It took Jim Rice 15 years to make the Hall of Fame with 2,452 hits, 382 hr, 298 career average, 8-time all star, MVP in 78'.
Damon's chances of HOF per Baseball Reference. Basically, they rate him WELL below even likely:
Black Ink
6 (345), Average HOFer ˜ 27
Gray Ink
75 (317), Average HOFer ˜ 144
Hall of Fame Monitor
71 (249), Likely HOFer ˜ 100
Hall of Fame Standards
37 (172), Average HOFer ˜ 50

I heard he can bench 500lbs...but I'm not seeing that to be accurate at all. I'm also seeing 300 and 375 at different places. Can't be too sure. But I wouldn't be surprised if he benched around 350.

After another you could be right. With the steroid era there may be years no one gets in. How many RBI's does he have? Aside from the BA he's got better numbers than Puckett.

Like I said earlier "I know this sounds nuts to even have this conversation but check out his career stats"
I actually agree with you. I do not think he will make it...but if he somehow hangs around for 3-4 more years..DH, whatever. There will be a discussion.
Do you agree?
Great info by the way.

Puckett has better stats, played two years less than Damon (as of now), was elected to 10 straight all-star games, MVP, tons of gold gloves - apples to oranges.

Maybe after three to four years, but I think the Hall looks more at if a player dominates a year, an era, than cumulative stats.
As a Yankee fan, do you think Bernie Williams has a better shot than Damon?

Man I love Bernie. I was so upset when the yanks disrespected him but not signing him for 1 more year but as good as Williams was his career stats are only 2336 hits 147 SB with a .297 avg. I do not think that is good enough BUT.... 2750 hits and 400 sb and 500 doubles is worth the discussion. NO?

True Max true. My point being with lean years for HOF voting coming , there may be a discussion. There shouldn't be but it may happen. IMO I'd rather they vote no one in versus lowing the standards.

Bernie's playoff stats were some of the best out there.
#2 22 homers(behind Manny's 28)
#1 28 RBI's
#2 71 Walks(behind Chipper's 72)
#2 121 Games Played(behind Jeter's 123)
#2 165 At Bats(behind Jeter's 195)
#2 544 Plate Appearances(behind Jeter's 562)
#2 83 Runs Scored(behind Jeter's 85)
#2 128 Hits(behind Jeter's 153)
#2 223 Total Bases(behind Jeter's 232)
#1 29 Doubles
#2 77 Singles(behind Jeter's 111)
Those are remarkable numbers. And as you can see the only player in front him him most of the time is Jeter. He should go into the hall of fame on those numbers alone.
