Lacking self control is a bad place to be when in LV.  I never bring cash as I have marker limits that allow me to get cash or chips at two casinos.  5 thousand at one and two thousand at another.  Plenty for me.  Last trip 500 lasted me till Thurs. after arriving on Sun.  Then cashed a thousand for making some BB bets in the madness first round on Thurs. and made 300 marker at crap table that night.  Brought all 1300 home with me.  My daughter was not so lucky losing 800 chasing the Wheel of Fortune progressive.  Oh well, this is gambling.

Background - You know the drill.  You head to Vegas with X amount of money (call it $3K) and you want to make sure it lasts the trip.  You get drunk the first night and tear through your cash. Then you're miserable and either bum around or do a CC advance, etc.  BUT NOT MORE!!  I have the solution.

I will use my trip as an example and say I am going to take $3K.  I get there on a Friday.  The first thing I'm going to do is head to the sports book and find a game (any sport) that will settle on Sat around noon.  I will then bet $1K on one side of the game (and yea, you guessed it), $1K on the other side.  For $50, I can protect $2K for the night and collect my money that following day after I sleep off Friday night.

You think that's expensive??  Consider how many times you have doubled/tripled a bet (when drunk), dropped $25 on the roulette table, etc., etc., etc....  Now how expensive does $50 sound?  That's just one stupid mistake that YOU WILL MAKE that night.

I would be very interested to hear if someone knows of any low juice books or no juice specials that I could use for this GENIUS strategy.

Would also like to hear if someone else has a better idea of suggestions.

Thx.
I actually think this is a good idea! I don't have a self control problem, but I know people with one. This is definitely a good idea for someone that could go  broke on night 1 and not have money for the rest of their trip

I will warn you that agreeing that this could have a real world application and be useful for certain people will bring some very "thought out" responses like "you're stupid."

I appreciate that you are able to see the real world application and past the myopic view that it's just wasting $50.

No problem.  Way I see it,  better to waste the $50 on juice rather thank $2000 on the roulette wheel at 4 am, black out drunk

I liked the -1600 bet idea better.
Or how about a PO Box that you can't open till Monday?
Or how about having it wired to you from a friend at a fraction of the cost.
BTW I am one of those fools that will tell you no books on the strip will offer -105.  If they do, the other  side is -115.
Mirage, Harrah's, Bill Hill, all the same.
If it's what you need to do to save your cash, more power to ya!

Since you posted this idea in two places, I'll post my response in both as well...

Shirldog-
The reason people are calling your "genius" idea "stupid" is twofold:
1. Lots of folks on Covers are lifers. They think about sports betting/gambling a lot. That means research and careful, sober planning. They don't go out, get loaded, and then make bets - they make their bets, win, and THEN go out and get loaded. Your strategy is only needed if you can't control yourself, and the audience you are talking to, for the most part, can TOTALLY control themselves. It's the wrong audience. It's like professing the genius of Daft Punk to my grandpa - he really won't agree.

2. When you come into a forum of pros and semi-pros and say "hey guys I'M A GENIUS" - that carries a lot of weight and you better deliver. The subcontext of "since I drink myself silly and can't control my betting, this is how I lock down my cash - and it only costs 5% interest per day!" really isn't confidence inspiring. It's like going into a local working man's bar, ordering a long island ice tea and yelling at all the guys drinking a bud "Look guys, I'm a genius! 4 types of liquor for one price!" If you are a genius, or have a genius idea, it's really up to the rest of the folks to say so. By announcing "genius" it actually sounds like "douchebag".

I have a better idea that is in the same vein as your "genius" idea - aka lock down the cash. It only costs about $3. Go to the drug store and buy 1 condom and 1 pair of latex gloves. When you get to Vegas and check in your room, put your $2000 rolled up in the condom, tie it off, and swallow it. Our Colombian friends have taught us that condoms don't get digested. Go out the first night and get good and ripped - rage, freak, twerk, whatever. The next afternoon when you wake up your stomach will be "all tore up" from the party. This is where the gloves come in. After you do your business, on go the gloves, retrieve the condom, and voila! your cash is in your hands, safe and ready to be spent.
Celebrate saving $97 with a $1.99 shrimp cocktail and a $95 lap dance from "Raspberry".

Whether my idea is "genius" or not is up to the readers...

You're welcome.

Haha good story and great idea, made me laugh for sure. Maybe that is where the confusion lies as I see the opposite of this site being full of pros or semi-pros for that matter. Maybe I just spend too much time in the general forum, investments and this forum, but I just can't see where the majority of posters are pros/semi-pros. You're absolutely right though speak to your audience. Quality post here.

I don't necessarily agree that most are pros or semi but I do agree that the guys that were responding have a very different philosophy on Vegas than I do.  I am there to tear it up and get wild.  If I want to sports gamble, I do it from my computer (seems a much better way to sports gamble).

The responders are clearly not the wild and crazy type.  They can't understand why I would go to Vegas with such reckless abandon and I can't understand why you would go to Vegas any other way!  I only see Vegas as an adult playground...they see it as...well...I'm not really sure, but not the playground I enjoy.

As far as the genius...I was really just sort of kidding.  Of course I understand my idea isn't genius...just a really good idea for people who get wild and crazy and want to protect their cash.  Even if only one person uses it then I have potentially protected 1 soul's night of entertainment in Vegas and very, very few people can say that...and that's GENIUS!  (jk)

The condom idea seems a little...hard to swallow...

Thx ILPRATO...I appreciate it.  A lot of people have PM'd me and told me that they think the idea is brilliant.  I have definitely received an overwhelming response in favor of the idea vs. haters.

It's interesting.  The haters feel very strongly about it and voice on here whereas a few supporters post here and most PM me. I guess it's because people who failed to see the brilliance were very vocal and called me stupid, etc and lacked the vision of the majority.  I guess Haters gonna hate and people don't want to get wrapped up in it.  The funny thing is that this is forum for discussion.  By writing things like "you're stupid" (although based on the intelligence of the average Hater - it was probably more like "your stupid"), it actually stifles the discussion.

My goal was to have a discussion about ways that people could protect themselves from themselves.  Instead in turned into a "Call to Arms" from the uninformed and myopic which had the effect of chilling a good discussion and regressing it to..."I'm rubber, you're glue."

Oh well.  I guess if the thread doesn't start with a sports team and end with a line, then it's difficult to have a meaningful discussion.  Let me know if you ever use the Brilliance Protection System (dubbed hereafter, "BPS") to successfully shelter your cash.  I will definitely be using the BPS in September and I'm very excited about the prospect!

Just send me your $50. If you don't want to spend your money on Friday, stay home and go on Saturday. Geez. Or, detour to Primm, come to the casino cage and pay me $45 to hold your money for you.

Better still...all of you who think giving away $50 is a great idea just come see me and pay me a percentage to hold your cash. You'll know where I work and if the casino trusts me with millions, I'd think you can with a paltry $45. Happy to help and happy to accept your money. Better to give it to me than them, don't you think?

What happens when you get all bunged up and you don't take a garbage till 4 days later? Now you have no cash at all. I don't think I would rely on the human body to store my funds.

As tempting as it sounds to have a complete stranger (in Vegas no less) hold my hard earned cash...I think I'll let the casino hang onto it. Thx though.
