#1 Posted: 5/13/2012 4:25:04 PM sick of my life here in ohio. Dead end job that doesn't pay shiit. Thinking about getting on the greyhound or flying to lv. I've been there before and things didn't go so well. This time i have a better plan. Sticking to betting only baseball and 2dollar minimum roulette. Maybe a little poker. I'll have around 2 grand to work with. If i go i'll be staying in the cheapest, roachiest hotels on fremont street unless i find a better alternative. (tent city, flood tunnels) lol. What is holding me back is my girlfriend. She lives in michigan and i only see her a couple times a month. She says if i go we're done. Well i'm unhappy and think a change of scenery will change me for the better. Hopefully i can turn my 2000 into something nice. Or get chewed up and spit out. I need an adventure though and refuse to live miserably day in and day out doing the job i'm doing now. Any advice? |

#4 Posted: 5/14/2012 2:55:05 PM I don't know how you do at baseball but the roulette wheels in LV are just like the wheels on the riverboats/Indian casinos in Ohio.Don't try to pay the rent with your winnings at a table game. What ever you play there will come a sequence that WILL break you.Now I've lived at those flophouses off fremont $55 a week, and every morning I'd put on my best shoes and my best jeans and put every $ I owned in my pocket cause there are a dozen keys to your room on the street. They don't change the locks in these places.Besides that I ate, slept, breathed, baseball and I had a glorious time and I made great money cause I was 1 bad weekend away from getting on that Greyhound back east. What ya got going in the Buckeye State? A shitty job and a weekend girlfriend. I was miserable just like you and I came to LasVegas and I was mugged my first night off the bus and that wqs a wake-up call that nobody was looking out for me except myself.Unless you want to join the walkingdead homeless army of LV leave yourself an out to get back to Ohio or where ever cause if you ain't in action in Vegas you don't want to be there.I say go for it -I did. |

#6 Posted: 5/14/2012 6:28:02 PM nice feedback les. i think i'll start off by staying at the plaza or four queens, then work my way down fremont st. if i have to. Hopefully it doesn't come to that. Yeah baseball is where it's at for me. I would only be betting small amounts on the table games. If I go my family is going to despise me and my girlfriend will give me hell. They're assuming I'm gonna darn up and need them to bail me out. darn em. I can only take this monotonous bs boring town day to day and don't even feel alive anymore. Just existing. Every day is the same friggin thing. Sorry that I want to travel, live life, meet new people and make a little moolah on some baseball. Guess that makes me a selfish person in their eyes. $200 for a bus ticket. I'm trying to find a flight that isn't more than $300. I'll make up my mind in the next day or two when to leave. Probably next monday. Trying to cashout from her..a..e. one last time. |

If you're trying to live off $2K without a job....that's your first delusional thought. Then if you think that $2K will last you while playing table games (I dont care what the minimum) then that trumps your first delusional thought. If you're going there with $2K and plan on immediately looking for a job or at least some part time work, then that's one thing. I don't care how good you are at baseball, trying to live off of a starting bankroll of $2K in Vegas by strictly gambling is impossible.........you'll most likely be done in less than a week or 2. |

#9 Posted: 5/14/2012 8:57:28 PM Maybe if you are going out there just to see how long you can last, and then go back home to Ohio. I wouldn't do it if I was actually trying to make it out there though

#10 Posted: 5/14/2012 10:01:18 PM You're kidding yourself if you think you can make it on $2000.
Let's just say you can live on $100, accounting for food, lodging, transportation, everything. You have 20 days in your pocket when you arrive, not counting whatever you spend on bus or plane ticket to get there. How are you going to make $100 each day to make sure you are still ahead the next day? $100 a game? Or are you going to go big, bet $500 a game, and risk being there less than a week?
If you want to get away from your job and your life and you think Vegas is the place to do it, fine. I wouldn't head out there to try to make a living as a gambler with anything less than $10,000. That is $100 a day for 100 days, or a little over three months for you to decide if Vegas is for you or not.
It seems to me like you're bored, and wanting a temporary change in scenery, and are willing to risk your family and friends to get it. I'd say keep working and grinding until you build that $10k bankroll. The self-discipline and sacrifice to get that scratched together will help keep you alive each day in Vegas.

wizg, why does it have to be something permanent? Why not just take a vacation out there for 3-4 days? You don't need to make such a drastic change all at once. Take a vacation to Vegas, get a brake from your daily life and have some fun. Then re-evaluate what you want to do when you get back. Thats my 2 cents. |

#15 Posted: 5/16/2012 4:26:59 AM Wiz, Its time to seriously man up and get responsible in life.
Not a single person here can make enough money to live on in this game we call gambling.
ITS A HOBBY, PERIOD
you have good days you have bad days, You have good runs, you have bad runs.
get a real job and stop being lazy and settling for what you have.
Im sure so many here are working a job they are too good for.
Get a job, save money, spend money, live life, take vacations to europe, south america, south east asia, whatever.
Forget the vegas pipedream because thats all it is and at the end of it the pipe will be in your behind not the dream. |

#16 Posted: 5/16/2012 11:09:50 AM Single, less than or more than $2 grand, and wanting to hit Vegas for a change of scenery. I am in Vegas for business and pleasure about 6 weeks out of the year. I have often thought of doing the same thing. My thing is parlays and blackjack. Two years ago, I stayed for 9 weeks (stayed at Fitzgeralds for $32 a night) or Binions at that time, and overall just stayed in Old Town, and not the strip. Lower table stakes, and less expensive overall. Took the deuce when I wanted to go on the strip, or drive to Red Rock or South, or whatever. The idea was $100 plus a day in winnings on 3-pick parlays for $20 each (baseball and college BB). I was lucky and was able to keep it going . In the mornings, I would go down to the blackjack table and bet $20 on one hand, and if I hit it, I would let it right for 3 hands. One bet only though. If you go to Vegas, you need to be disciplined in what you do. Since I was retired military, I went to Nellis AFB and played ball for a few hours each day. You will get burned out quickly if you stay in the casino any longer than 2 hours or so a day. Good luck in your endeavor, or in whatever you decide. Vegas is a ball buster, and if you set a reasonable standard for losses each day, et cetera, you have a chance. But I read where people wil strike it big at poker in vegas, and all of that, and the only thing I can say is when I drive my five year old car down the strip I see them everywhere sitting and sipping. |

#17 Posted: 5/17/2012 11:35:56 AM I have this same thought on a weekly basis, what I have done is try and disipline myself before I make a life changing decision.
I track everything, every online bet, every pack of gum, every piece of food I buy, trying to get a grip on my spending/living expenses before I make this jump.
Making that 1 bet or 2 bets a night has been the toughest challenge, I find myself wanting to play everythinng to hit that 10K goal sooner, but all that leads to is break even nights,m which does nothing for the 'dream'.
The only suggestions I have is let the pople around you understand what you want to do. I keep telling folks that September 2013 I'm buying my one way ticket to Vegas. They all think I'm crazy.............. But everyone needs goals |
