I was at the Miami Dolphins practice today with my binoculars mostly on Jay Cutler as he took his first snaps with the first team. Overall he looked accurate but with pressure from Suh...and Wake... he threw 2 picks. Nothing to worry about this early on, but it does underline how critically important it will be for Adam Gase to get him to play safe and efficient football this year. It looks like Cutler needs a little Time, as expected, to get in a rhythm and up to NFL pace. Another thing to consider is that Miami has a terrific defense this year and might give Brady some trouble if all goes well. On a positive note, Cutler did toss a 30 yard touchdown pass in burning Xavien Howard. In sum ... to early to draw conclusions, normal Cutler rust, and highlight on Cutler needing to play smart this year and avoid the costly mistakes!!!

I am seeing lines of pik all over the place....where is the line of
TB -2-?
I'm interested in hearing why the Miami defense will be good this year. Last year they were 23rd in yards per play and 19th in yards allowed.
What has changed for them to make them better?
I'd be expecting a lot of games going over the total for them this season. As far as their expected season win total, they beat a lot of crummy teams last year, sometimes eking out wins. That usually doesn't translate well their next season. I have a lot of respect for Gase as a motivator and tactician and season two for elite coaches usually produces better results than season 1, so I'll be open minded about their possibilities
All of the past history, both with their fortunate results last year, and their new quarterback's spread record and his lack of leadership in his past stops has me pessimistic about their ability to get to the playoffs.

Maturity, playing like he did 2 years ago with Gase, having better receivers, having a better running game, needing to preserve his legacy and future career in broadcasting ... but overall a better system and better team. Any more questions lololololo ???

Real quick...the word "legacy" and Jay Cutler should never be used in the same sentence.
Listen, I've watched the Bears my whole life. The wishful thinking, the hope, the potential, the possibility of Jay Cutler being successful etc...all these feelings resided with me and millions of Bears fans for years(I can read the same optimism in all of your posts)We pulled for him, we hoped, saw glimpses of potential. But year after year he failed in one way or the other. It wasn't always his fault. He didn't always have the best guys around him, but some years he did.
Bottom line on the guy, you can not trust him to pull through in the clutch. He NEVER led his team back into games from a deficit. He never went over in game adjustments with his teammates or coaches. He never showed any positivity. He never took the blame for his mistakes. He can not deal with ADVERSITY.
From an x's and o's perspective: He lacks the ability to hit receivers on the run/crossing routes where leading them is required. He throws to spots. Quick ins, hitches or straight up jump balls where the receiver has to do the brunt of the work to come down with the ball. Bigger guys like Brandon Marshall, Martelles Bennet and Alshon Jeffrey fit the suit. But they took a beating doing it this way.
I don't wish him failure in Miami in no way. But this dude had enough time in his career to turn it around, and he didn't. You have to call a spade a spade. He retired, he was donzo, finito. Now he'll grab a cool 10 million no matter how this season plays out.
Btw, that "amazing" year he had with Gase in 2015 produced a QBR below league average. If that's the guys best year, well good luck with that.

Undermy, I actually respect your knowledge and experience on this matter. I didn't watch Cutler all those years in Chicago. It must have been very frustrating. Time will tell if you are right. Desperation called for this. And sometimes players improve late in their career in a new place. Remember Jim Plunkett? He was horrible until the end. I'm not sure Chicago had a running back like Jay Ajayi. He also didn't have a Jarvis Landry, Devante Parker, Kenny Still, or Julius Thomas ... not to mention a great blocking tight end in Anthony Fasano. If Gase can engineer an efficient running offense that passes discretely and if the defense keeps them in the game (and yes Miami's defense will be better than advertised .... especially the d line and secondary) ... then Jay Cutler might indeed thrive. He can't be that bad? Or can he? Lol

Maybe he pulls a Plunkett,........the rest of his team is certainly talented, so there's no excuses this year for Miami.
His signing also gives them a palatable reason to cut ties with Tannehill who was never going to lead them to the promised land and will save them a ton of money.

Cutler's TD to INT....actually looks pretty darn good in 2014 and 2015! And I disagree on Tannehill. He was making awesome progress and ready for an amazing year. But this happened. If Cutler wins and Miami gets rid of Tannehill's contract, some other team will get a great seasoned quarterback next year.
