Belichick SHOULD have called timeout. He got lucky. Or he is psychic.
He deserves some credit for being comfortable that his team was ready to defend that play, but you don't call timeout only if you are sure you are going to get a turnover! He still needed to plan for the high probability that he wasn’t going to get a turnover. And that would mean calling timeout, even if it meant giving Seattle time to re-think things.
Maybe he was so happy that they were going to pass that he let it happen. But 98% of the time it will be incomplete or TD or something else and then time for two more runs.
Agree 100%.
I never met a hater better than me. I am on twitter

i think he figured that one of the plays would have to be a pass and banked on it when he saw that SEA came out with 3 WR's.

Belichik said as much in an interview. He was going to call a timeout but then Seattle came out with 3 wide receivers. They had the best situation possible to stop the run. He hesitated and decided against calling the play, and let it go through.
That's the reality, we can debate the merits of the play forever. As I've already said, the play was beyond stupid. If you're going to throw the ball, bootleg, and Wilson should be able to run the ball in or throw it away.
Even Chris Collinsworth and Al Michaels said it was a stupid play. But I can come to Covers and find out otherwise for sure.

Quote from the tv set: Michaels: Pass is INTERCEPTED AT THE GOAL LINE by MALCOM BUTLER! (Pause) UNREAL Malcolm Butler (laugh), who almost made the phenomenal play that wound up in Percy's arms. There are flags on the play for celebration. Amazing! Butler a rookie free agent out of West Alabama.
Collinsworth: They tried a pick play Al, they tried to go here, but he beats him to the punch, and I'm sorry, but I can't believe the call.
Michaels: Me neither.
Collinsworth: I CANNOT BELIEVE THE CALL! You've got Marshawn Lynch in the backfield. You've got a guy that's been borderline unstoppable in this part of teh field. I can't believe the call.
Michaels: And there is Brady (laugh) as demonstrable as ever. And RIchard Sherman.

But even if you are happy it is a pass play, you can't bank on intercepting it. That was a 1% probability. So you call timeout right after Lynch's first run to save Brady some time.
I guarantee you if that pass was incomplete rather than intercepted and scored on either of the next two plays, Belichick would be getting roasted for not calling timeout.
He may have felt he could stop them on that one set, but by not calling timeout, you are banking on stopping them 3 times from the one. You can call the timeouts just in case you don't stop them all three times. It then gives you a chance. Weird.

Maybe you didn't hear it.
Belichik said they got the play they wanted. Butler knew the play was coming. That interception was no accident. They ran it several times in practice and each time they tried the interception.
It doesn't have to do with stopping 3x from the 1. It was about getting the pick and winning the game.

They ran 30 + seconds off the clock so when did they " get the play." If we r going to accept that it was a horrible call and that the chance of intercepting was 1% then belichick took a bad risk. Also the indication was that butler knew it was coming based on the movement of both receivers.
