The 32 owners should combine their powers (money) to build a mega-stadium in Las Vegas, NV that will be the permanent home for the Super Bowl. There is no doubt/question that the Super Bowl is the most widely bet event in the entire world. Roger Goodell should embrace this fact and maybe save a little bit of face by allowing this idea to go through...here are my major reasons why this needs to happen...
There is more than enough space in the Las Vegas area...it's a desert with a billion hotels
Every guy in the world would instantly want to take a Super Bowl trip with his buddies to Las Vegas
It could be the most futuristic, social media friendly, comfortable arena in the world.
Each of the 32 owners that put in money (say $50 million each) would share in the revenue that is brought in each year and would gain that money back almost instantly

Create two conferences...the US conference and the Canada conference
Two Divisions within each conference
Take the original six teams, plus major market teams to create the 24 team NHL
The US division would consist of...Boston, New York Rangers, Detroit, Washington, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Chicago, Minnesota, Colorado, Los Angeles, St. Louis, and either Buffalo or Nashville
The Canada division would consist of Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Winnepeg, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Quebec, Hamilton, Halifax, Regina, St Johns (12 largest areas for the most part)
This would increase the talent level for each and every team because there are 6 less teams in the league
This would also capitalize on the US/Canada hockey rivalry that has been generated through the Olympics.
There would be more national pride over the Stanley Cup...and we wouldn't have to suffer through it being held in Tampa, Carolina, San Jose, or Phoenix or some other b.s. city like that.

there's such a sense of hangover after the superbowl, Arena football has tried and does not fill the void.
the UFL in the 80's played a spring/summer schedule, then the UFL that folded a few years ago found it couldnt compete playing a fall schedule.
I think a semi competitive league Feb to May would be a good gamble if somebody had deep pockets, not much competition really, nobody watches college hoops anymore apart from the big dance, spring training is just that and its still regular season in the NBA.

Draw geographical borders so that the major power schools are equally divided.
If a team falls with 100 miles of a border, they get to pick which conference they would like to be in.
Each conference has two divisions of 8 teams...which means there are 64 "championship eligible" teams...more than enough to cover every possible contender
The division winners from each conference would meet in an 8 team playoff starting the week of Christmas and finishing the 2nd week of January...this ensures that no classes will be missed and all "bowl" games will be completed during winter breaks for all schools
The 8 teams that make the NCAA playoff will be randomly paired up by a lottery draw (sponsored by super company x for x billion dollars) because there is no way to accurately pick seedings for these teams.
Each individual game will take the name of the 7 top bowls and be sponsored by a major company...Orange, Sugar, Rose, Fiesta, Cotton, Alamo, Peach...therefore there is no money lost in the argument.
It's a lot easier during the regular season because you play the 7 teams in your division, plus 4 out of division games at your discretion. You don't win your division, you do not get a chance to play for the playoff.

That's the problem though...there is nothing that could possibly come close to the pinnacle of sports that is the Super Bowl.
Following that you have the NBA and NHL playoffs that start to take shape...the start of the PGA Tour majors...and NASCAR....so there really is plenty of things to keep us occupied.
Add in the 24/7 coverage of the NFL Draft that ESPN force feeds us

Thats alot of money for one game a year...
I think they should schedule a game in LV once a week including preseason for non-divisional marquee match ups... to be played on a neutral field as if it was the superbowl...
People could travel for the game to see their favorite game and stay in LV... would benefit the NFL, LV, the fans... everyone wins...

Coaches in all sports should wear their team's uniform, like in baseball. And there should be an ATS Championship game in each sport, pro and college. And strippers should somehow be integrated into every halftime show. And why does the field have to always be level? Home teams should be encouraged to develop hazards.

I like the idea of a Las Vegas mega stadium. Ticket prices would be so ridiculously high that it would be hard for your average fan to attend. It would be nice to set aside a good chunk of tickets at a discounted rate for the fans of the teams participating.
It could also be used for the NCAA championship game and other things like the men's national soccer team WC qualifiers and concerts, etc.

Here is a crazy change I think would make the NBA better.
Don't stop the game when there is a foul, unless it is flagrant or intentional. At the end of the half and end of the game, tally up the fouls and shoot all the free throws then. Fouls slow down the tempo of a game.
For football, I would like to see the defense given the ball if it is fumbled out of bounds. They do this in the endzone for a touchback, why not be consistent and reward the defense for forcing a fumble.

I don't like the idea of only the 8 teams of winning the conference tournament eligible for the playoff.. The top two teams in the country might play in the same conference. For instance this year if you gave an automatic bid to a BIG 10 team over the second place team in the SEC..

The conferences would be remodeled so that you don't have the SEC having 4 of the top 6 teams year in and year out...you would put Georgia in the North...Texas, Texas A&M, TCU in the West...etc.
Either that or just have the top two teams in each division play each other in a "championship" game for the conference to see who makes it to the 8 team final playoff.

I forget if it was Bill Simmons or who it was that mentioned another idea that I really like...rather than free throws just have the person who committed the foul sit on the bench for 1 minute and have to play 5 on 4 during that time.

Something like that may pique my interest in basketball again. Right now it's a disaster of subjective fouls, piss poor coaching, and endless stoppages in play. The game has no tempo. It's like driving in city traffic. As soon as you hit the gas pedal, you need to tap the brakes and come to a stop.

The rest of the league would never go for the Super Bowl in Vegas. The reason cities bid so hard to host is because they know the revenue they will bring in will surpass the investment they make to get the game.
The owners will never allow a city that isn't represented in the league to host a SB.
