I see everyone one the forum has their annual hardon for Georgia.
Georgia had there chance 2 years ago. Richt cant win the big game and is going to have a down year. Get this Mitchell, Conley, Bennett along with most likely Gurley all gone after this season. After this season GEORGIA FALLS OFF THE MAP. Bulldogs best days are gone!!!!!!!!! Blame Richt he had a golden opportunity. He wasted his big moment

I'm only half serious about Georgia. It's just that it's like groundhog day every season on Blankets around here this time of year. Everyone is predicting great things out of Georgia, only to have Mark Richt snatch defeat from the jaws of victory . . . again.
It's not that I don't understand the Georgia love. They are very talented, and probably more importantly, healthy, so they definitely appear primed to make a serious run at the Eastern Division Championship.
Aside from injuries, Georgia's Kryptonite last season was defense, particularly the secondary. They just couldn't stop anyone. Although I liked the Todd Grantham at the time he was hired, time did not bear out my initial optimism about the hire. I am now of the opinion that the coup of Saban disciple Jeremy Pruitt from Florida State will improve Georgia's defensive fortunes this season. If the Dawgs can marry an improved defense with an offense that can come close to racking up yardage and points they did with Aaron Murray under center, then Georgia will definitely be a forced to be reckoned with.
I think the fact that they catch South Carolina early favors them, because the Ole Ball Coach has some rebuilding to do on the defensive side of the ball, and that rebuilding project will most likely not be a polished product by week 2. That is obviously an extremely pivotal game for both teams and the division as a whole.
Georgia's front 7 should be pretty stout, but the secondary is still a huge concern. Secondary, however, is Jeremy Pruitt's specialty so I guess we shall see if he has some secondary magic up his sleeve.
Offensively I have two concerns. First of all, much like Alabama last season, Georgia will have to replace the heart and sole of their offensive line, so it'll be interesting to see how they gel as a unit, particularly against South Carolina in week 2.
My second concern is, while Georgia's starters at the skill positions are as talented as anyone in the nation, I don't see much behind those starters. Will their season go south again if they suffer a couple of key injuries on that side of the ball?
Then of course we have the wild card of all wild cards . . . Marc Richt. The guy will sh it the bed at some point this season like he does every season. The only question is how much will it cost the team. Can they overcome Richt this season? Your guess is as good as mine.

I understand your point, but with all due respect, what happened two years ago is not really germane to how well they'll perform as a team in 2014.
The state of Georgia is flush with talent. As such, the Dawgs will always field a talented team. Sure they may fall off some next season (which of course has no relevance to this season either), but don't expect them to be on an unpromising trajectory for very long.

I really don't want to take away from Georgia's performance in the SEC Championship Game, because they definitely played very well. That said, the only reason there was any suspense at the end of that game was because a) they pretty much caught every break there was to catch in that game, and secondly because Saban grossly mismanaged the end of both halfs. How the breaks fall during the course of game is just part of the game. Sometimes everything goes against you, and you are forced to overcome. It happens that way in softball too. But there is no excuse IMO for consistent poor game management. I may have been the only Alabama fan on planet earth who was furious at the end of that game.
Sure you can also point an accusatory finger at Bobo for mismanaging the end of the game, but his decision not to call a timeout is much more debatable. That is one of those decisions that if it works you look like a genius, and if doesn't . . . well then . . . you look like a "Bobo."
I wish you luck with your wagering endeavors this season WCE. Hopefully you can earn enough to purchase a humble abode in Curacao. I for one am rooting for you.

I don't disagree with you premise that Mark Richt is not a top tier coach. I have posted similar thoughts many times on this forum. I also agree that a top tier such as Saban probably would have won multiple titles in Athens over the past 10 years.

I actually think Arky (1st Half) might be a solid play, particularly if the number comes in north of 11.5.

Interesting to hear your comments on Jeremy Johnson, as I have been of the opinion that he is definitely the better QB of the two. He may not be as fast and as athletic as Marshall, but a just better overall pure QB.
I don't know what kind of long term effect Rodney Gardner's departure will have on Georgia's recruiting, but like all Saban disciples, Jeremy Pruitt is a very strong recruiter. Thus far Gardner's move over the state line seems to have benefitted Auburn more than it has hurt Georgia. Although surely he wasn't the primary recruiter for Adams, Lawson and Daniel, he obviously did something right to hang on to those three blue chippers through all the turmoil of the coaching change.
Lawson, is a huge blow for Auburn no doubt as I suspect he's the most talented/athletic of the three. It'll be interesting to see if he can battle his way back late this season. I have to think not, but some who know a whole lot more than I do seem to think it's possible. Nevertheless, I suppose the bright side is that Daniels will now get his opportunity to shine. I would think that depth at the position will be a factor though.
I've been saying how talented FSU is for several years now. Jimbo has pulled some pretty sick classes, so their speed and athleticism was not a big shock to me.
I tend to agree with Washington/Hawaii. Chris Peterson has proven to be really tough when given extra time to prepare, but a wager on the Huskies would violate one of my wagering rules - never fade Hawaii on the island. A lot of shady sh it happens over there. Other than a nice vacation, I can't understand why Washington would agree to play them on the island.
Boise State/Ole Miss is shaping up to be my favorite game of week 1. I wish the game were being played during the day in the insufferable Mississippi heat and humidity, but I still believe this game sets up as a significant Ole Miss beatdown.
I don't see the Arkansas @ Auburn game being quite that high scoring. I have think that defenses should pick up a slight advantage this season after having had a year to review Malzahn's system. That's not to say that Arkansas' defense has the talent to hang in there for 4 quarters, because I don't think they do, but I do see the Razorbacks hanging tough in the first half.
Bielema will obvious try to play ball control to limit Auburn's possessions, and I think initially he'll have some success in that regard. I see this game being more like a 42-20 type of score. I do think that a first half play on Arky would not be a bad play at all.
Again, best of luck to you this season WGE.

I'm not really sure what to make of Alabama quite yet. From top to bottom they are the most talented team in the country, so obviously they can't be discounted. For Alabama, and I've said this many times, talent will never be the issue as long as Saban is running the show. The issue will always be about leadership and desire, and last season demonstrated how tough it is for a team to remain on top.
Last season Alabama seemingly had everything in place from a favorable schedule to a returning national championship QB and on down on down the list to threepeat, but the leadership and desire simply wasn't there. There was simply too much team division and some of that was McCarron being more of a douche canoe than a leader. And when it comes to the IB, the coaching wasn't there either. I was stunned by how ill prepared they were for that game. Couple that with Saban's usual poor game management, and you have a recipe for failure.
One would think that Alabama will be a very hungry team considering how last season ended, and I think that'll be the case for the most part. The big question mark is the most important one on the field - the QB position. If Coker lives up to the hype, then Alabama will be tough to stop. Clearly Coker is not new to the college game, but unlike the previous new QBs under Saban, Coker hasn't even taken a practice snap heading into fall camp.
I think Saban will handle Coker like he has his other new QBs, which is to say he will take a very conservative don't-screw-anything-up approach. I expect Alabama to look very pedestrian through the first half of the season. It may be the Texas A&M game before we really see them open up the offense a little. And because we know we'll see very inflated lines with Alabama, I would say they are fade material for the 1st half of the season.

What's shakin' Don Juan!!! Good to see one of the old heads posting.
I was pretty bullish on Florida last season before the bottom fell out, and I agree they will definitely be much improved, but they have an absolutely brutal schedule. They'll have to blaze their way through Alabama and LSU in the West, as well as Georgia, South Carolina and Missouri. And if that's not tough enough, they then finish with Florida State. They would do well to go .500 against those 6 teams, and .500 probably won't be good enough to win the division.
I just don't see it.

Hi Jimmy, as I said in another thread , if you didn't read it......
" Welcome Back my friend. Nice to see you around. "
Well, I agree Florida has a tough schedule, however, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, and South Carolina have all lost pretty darn good quarterbacks.
And they get to play LSU, Missouri, South Carolina, at home, and of course Georgia in Jacksonville.
I see them going 10-2 ...losing at Alabama and at Florida State.
And playing in the SEC championship game. But we shall see.
( Psst, Just between you and me. I'll be rooting harder since my grand daughter is going to University of Florida this year, and my grandson a sophomore at UCF. )
Anyway, Good luck to you Jimmy.
