If Duncan wins his fifth ring this year will that tarnish Kobe's rep as the best player to come out of the draft in the 90's? Hard to judge since they play completely different positions but interesting to hear peoples opinions...

Well since this is a legit question as to who is the best player to come out of the draft in the 90's (ultimately between TD and KB) we shall look at it at a career standpoint.

In the decade of 2000, the best player should be Tim Duncan while the best team should still be handed to the Lakers. LA in their prime absolutely destroyed Tim Duncan's team. That's not taking away anything from Tim Duncan.

And I don't think Kobe's rep will be tarnished or anything. They both are the best in their respective positions during the past decade. One may argue that Kobe had better individual stats because of what he did in terms of scoring and carrying the offensive load but ultimately Tim Duncan's consistency will stand out.

Right now we all know that Duncan's on the decline, and his teammates have stepped out. He is no longer considered the best player in his team and he is arguably the third best. His cast is much better than Kobe's. Both are on the decline so when comparing the two you must base it on their careers.

Tim Duncan is the best PF to play the game. And with his 4 rings already he is up there with Kobe in terms of overall ranking.

If you judge simply by scoring outputs then obviously Kobe by far exceeds Duncan but as a centerpiece of a successful franchise who is more important? I think this is the only aspect that could be compared and debated between these two...

As far as Duncan being more consistent I don't agree, look at Kobe's scoring outputs. They have been consistent throughout the last 13+ seasons, some season where he had to shoulder all of the scoring he had a bigger output in regards to points but in the past few years where he had some decent help you see his assists and rebound averages go up as well...

Same could be said with Duncan though. Kobe had to shoulder all the scoring but Duncan anchored both the defense and offense and let's face it... Kobe was paired with Shaquille O'Neal.

As in holding down the middle yes, but Kobe took it upon himself to guard the toughest scorers on the perimeter....He made the all-nba 1st defensive team multiple times...very tough to judge these two as they have completely different styles of play and their positions make a world of difference, nevertheless I still think Kobe has an edge here if you look at them as overall impact players...Shaq isn't an argument in my eyes as Duncan has Ginobili and Parker for 10 and 11 years respectively...They are still with him as in Kobe's case he won two more with completely rebuilt teams.

This is a joke...Kobe is the reason his teams lose....Duncan's the reason his teams win
