Perhaps Trayvon tossed the Skittles on the ground behind him as he was running for his life and George Zimmerman slipped and fell on them thus producing the lacerations to the back of his head.

I did listen to his reasoning and two of the themes were censorship and freedom of speech in addition to the cake being a commentary on black-face and genital mutilation. Clearly, he was trying to create an eccentric piece here, so much so, that he had a human screaming out of the cake.
Also, it is clear that this message doesn't necessarily get translated fully to the viewers or digesters of the art (no pun intended) leaving it open to a wide array of interpretation.
The message was lost on the white cake cutters because if it truly was about genital mutilation and blackface, you wouldn't have a ministry of culture feeding the cake itself with a big smile on her face. Nor would you have a dozen camera phones whipped out while everyone smiles, laughs and snaps a few. It was ONE BIG PARTY with a very distasteful nude black female centerpiece. That is disgusting.
While I don't think ANY of this could have been done respectfully, if the cake was simply an item in the room to be observed with solemnity with a discussion about you know, genital mutilation and discrimination, more would have come out of it in terms of education and exposure instead of what was more like gawking and pointing at roadkill (as they consumed the cake, something I'd literally find hard to swallow given the cut and theme).
The artist, as all artists do, probably wanted to make a splash and get noticed, and clearly, he achieved that. I'd also say he's an idiot and did much more harm than good and probably had little idea that it would result in what was more spectacle and jest instead of awareness. I cant be the only one that can see the irony in this statement coming for Scal.Change artist for creative writer and we have a match. |

lived in 3 border citys in Arizona and 2 months in Mexico I've never lived anywhere else, hispanic life is really all i know and the only time i've heard that used is Scal, i think his race card is spring loaded, it's sad because so many people had to the fight the good fight for equal rights, when we think of freedom fighters we think of the Scals of today and thats a shame, he is more activly hurting the image of blacks today (he is on multiple websites) then the real racists out there |
