Van and others,

RE: the SJSU/UNM game.... It seems that the prevailing thought on the Lobos is that they have no offense and their D stinks as well. While they havent been great, I think they have shown some signs of being better than "anemic" and "not good".

Just wondering what makes everyone think that. I'm not sure of Porterie's status, but with him under center, they looked pretty good. They put up 34 points and 467 yards on Utah,(350 through the air) and completely dominated a very good TCU team on both sides in their tough loss to the Frogs that resulted from fluky turnovers in the first half. They started slowly on offense this year, but have shown signs of having a decent offense over the past few weeks. Even with Nelson at QB, they've shown a willingness and ability to get it downfield. In the past, the Lobos have struggled through the air with the likes of McKamey, but now it seems like they can toss it around a bit.

I'm not saying the Lobos are the play here, but it seems that everyone is totally dismissing their ability to move the ball. I'm not saying they're Louisville, but I don't think I'd charcterize them as anemic. If I'm missing something, please set me striaght, but I don't see them as such a sad sack bunch...

Excellent thought in this thread, BTW..thanks to all...

Agree with you on South Florida. They should be very motivated since they have never won a bowl game, losing last year in their first bowl game appearance.  Just getting there was good enough last year, not this year .  South Florida.... the better team, played a better schedule, better quality wins and motivation.  Jumping ahead, could also say the same about Rutgers.

Van...I've never seen you post a total play.  The over in the Rice-Troy game looks like a stong play.

Because of this I am downgrading BYU to a ** play.

I cant be as confident as I was with all of the issues at cornerback in a game that there should be a lot of throwing.

Still a play, but just a normal play for me.

FSU +4.5 (**) vs UCLA.  I have this game at a PKEM.  Yes FSU’s offense is bad.  But so is UCLA’s.  And FSU’s defense is still great.  Better than UCLA’s.

For all of their troubles FSU is ranked 15th nationally defensively.  I am banking on them coming up with some offensive game plan in the month they had off.  Both programs are going to be disappointed to be in this bowl, and UCLA just won their super bowl – so emotionally I think it is a wash.

Defensive struggle.  Give me the points.

Alabama +2 (***) vs Oklahoma State.   OK ST should be embarrassed at their out of conference schedule.  SWMOST, ARK ST, FAU, and Houston (they lost this one).  This teams defense could make the worst offenses look good ranked 99!! in the country.  Ok St is 6-6, take out their garbage out of conference teams and they are 3-6!!  YES 3-6 against real competition.  And they are favored in a bowl game??

This is tailor made for a team like bama who needs help from the other team in order to score.  Bama will score on this team.  And Bama might be the best defense OK ST has seen this year.

So give me the team that is playing against a defense that has surrendered an average of 31 points over its last 9 games any day, and then give me points and I say “thank you”.

Yes I know there are coaching issues at bama.  But Im going to take a chance that they will have a gameplan to tear apart a swiss cheese defense.  I think they could win by accident.

Rutgers -7 (**) vs Kansas State.  Mismatch here.  Im a little concerned about the one dimesional Rutgers offense but bowl games are different.  They have a month to prepare.

Im not sure how Kansas State is going to score in this one.  I have examined every angle and I just don’t see them putting up points.  Their offense is non-threatening, their defense average – and they play in a conference that is inferior to the Big East.

You can bet that Rutgers will be up for this game and play for Schiano and play the whole game out.

Rutgers in a walk 34-7.

Cal -5 vs TX AM (no play).  I cant get an edge on this one.  Once again TX AM out of conference schedule is a laugher, and I watched them almost lose (they should have lost) to Army.  They played in close games every game all year, and never really distinguished themselves.

Cal on the other hand is battle tested but stumbling in, and with their original hopes of a national championship this has to be a disappointment for them.

I cant buy in to either of these teams.  At a pkem I take Cal but at -5 I think is just about right.

With you on Rutgers, time for them to get their first bowl win.  These guys want to be a big-time program, can't do that until you start winning bowl games.  Thought you might have it as a 3*** play.

Wolfe will break the 2,000 yard mark...But in the end it will be Ballard who steals the spotlight with 200+ passing and 100+ rushing
